  • my question is how the video playback is? buffering speed on 3G vs. WIFI?

  • Shame only the obscenely rich will have the necessary gizmo.

  • This looks awesome! If only I had an iPad...

  • If it has Murdoch on it, no thanks. I'd rather watch invisible paint dry

  • Rupert Murdoch is an Australian terrorist.

  • It's actually a really nice looking app. The people bagging it out don't understand that this is release one, just like every other ipad edition Murduch has delivered around the world. All the Australian ones for example. This baby will be the talking point of news to come in years to come. They have the best of the best working on this. Tablets and iPhones are get ready for news at your finger tips, its live, its now and it's cheap. It's a new form of interaction that other papers won't match.

  • It's actually a decent app. We're excited to see where it goes.

  • I'm amused by how the carousel is laggy even in their demo

  • OMG THE SUPERBOWL AD! It had the iPad 2 in it!

  • Magazine apps should take several leaves from the book that goes 'magazine apps using the Adobe InDesign iPad Viewer are by far the best'. What the iPad needs is a similar consistent UI paradigm for newspaper apps.

  • I still prefer the physical newspaper.

  • That's some laggy-ass shit. Did they even test it before they wrote that code? Did Adobe write it? How can they think that's shippable?

  • So cool. Wish they released one for iPhone too

  • LA TIMES -- Apple collecting, sharing iPhone users' precise locations

"Apple Inc. is now collecting the "precise," "real-time geographic location" of its users' iPhones, iPads and computers. In an updated version of its privacy policy, the company added a paragraph noting that once users agree, Apple and unspecified "partners and licensees" may collect and store user location data."

Apple Inc. -- A one stop shop for all your cow tag needs.

  • @FreedomsReigning And if you could be bothered to actually read the Terms of Service, you'd know that this story is both overblown and out of context.

  • Its the same problem with all these tablet apps, everyone fighting for a good UI. No standards. Very confusing, lots of taps and mystery scrolls. No I don't wanna "explore" to find my news. It's why the PopSci app wasn't very good either.

  • The narrator sounds upset when he says "after that its only 99cents a week"

  • Depois do delicious, surge o ridículo.us.

  • Lol it's lagging ^_^

  • Great app, but if the news is controlled by Rupert Murdoc I won't read it.

  • Comment removed

  • @larsvds no. iPad only.

  • Media creators aren't making money from their publications any more. This is an attempt to bolster their revenues with a new model. Time will tell if it works.

  • @999maso666 That's just the frame rate of the video. On the iPad you probably won't see it.

  • "news, gossip, opinion, arts & life, apps & game..."

    I lolled.

  • Or just go to foxnews.com for free

  • What are some of the other news apps that offer better interface and content. I really want to use my iPad for original news and ent. content but have only come up with aggregate apps so far.

  • Looks cool. Sorry people but the future is looming. And for those of you who don't like the Murdoch product, go back to reading the 97% of the rest of the media that slants left. You'll be fine. Meantime, your temper tantrums make you look as silly as you are. Chicken Little liberals. We laugh at you. And build Fox News into the most watched network for news, and by the most educated. Wouldn't wanna be ya!

  • @Lincolnway1 "by the most educated"? yeah, right, go ahead and think what you want - even if it's complete bs. anyway, this daily-thing has - apart from the owner - not much to do with fox news. or do you think every product owned by murdoch does? if the daily were indeed like fox, it would fail miserably, totally. you think the average fox news viewer can afford these shiny, expensive tablets? or read newspapers? there you go: wouldn't wanna be ya!

  • Do people really want Murdoch's iRag? What else does the guy's odious company churn out? Fox News, The New York Post, The Sun, The News of the World... Churnalism? Now, there's an app for that. Of course it's no surprise that Apple and News Corp are collaborating. Both companies are renowned for socially authoritarian leanings and exploitative practices. iPad will probably lap this up solely because it's exclusive to their device. It will still be utter garbage; Murdoch's own tradition.

  • This is the worst excuse for an app. And why is only for the US?

  • @bertrandgolf

Your negative attitude reminds me of the joke, "this airline food is terrible", "I know, and such small portions". Hilarious, you ask "why only for the US" after writing how horrible it looks.

  • Hahahaha so fucking laggy coverflow :P

  • @piratapan yeah, i noticed that as well, perhaps they could provide an update in the future? There's nothing special about this app, there are dozens of other proper news and sports app that offer better interface and much importantly, content :P

  • @sUpErHeRo15xx Yeah, like this was the forst to be totally redesigned. :P And well, I dont trust Murdoch in any way when it comes to reliable news.

  • this must be the reason why steve jobs is sick

  • I like it

  • Ha ha, Murdoch fail, this will be as shit as his MySpace acquisition. Murdoch doesn't understand the internets.

  • Huffington Post, and Fox readers won't like it. There isn't much bias left or right, which suites me just fine.

  • I wonder what their op-ed lean to. No one want to read anything that does not suit their point of view.

  • Why am I always amazed of ignorant people putting their opinions out there and really showing themselves as Idiots. Really? You can get this free? Have you seen the first edition? Audio, video, stunning photography, HD, interactive elements, well written aricles and story's, social networking, and with the iPad technologies it gives me local content, weather, news, and probably the coolest Sports section I have ever seen. It is NOT the NY Times! It is NOT USA Today! I have them both too.

  • @jantinucci

Yes, you can get all this for free.

Audio: NPR.org and countless others that don't have the editorially biased slant coming from the Murdoch press.

Video: YouTube and countless others that don't have the editorially biased slant coming from the Murdoch press.

Stunning Photograpy: The Gurdian, Flickr and countless others that don't have the editorially biased slant coming from the Murdoch press.

HD: See Video & Stunning Photography above

and on and on and on.

  • @deekster2 NPR doesn't have an editorial biased slant? Hmmm, you must either be a liberal or ignorant.

  • @TomDavisSr

Riiiight, please type 'Why is 'liberal' a bad word?' into YouTube search and hear my reply from the great Matt Santos (via The West Wing)

  • Um, great idea in theory, but who is the target audience? Everyone with an iPad isn't interested in GOSSIP!

  • Cool! Saw the Launch on Fox. Might get me an iPad now!!

@sapaman It's not $52/yr. It's $1/wk or $40/yr. And there are incentives and discount offers galore. And your dire predictions were also made about the iPad itself less than a year ago. It's taking the world by storm. Another disgruntled, dour and devoted liberal about to eat crow! *evil grin*

  • how many people are going to pay $52 a year when they can get the NYTimes for free. One more subscription model about to go down in flames.

  • @sapaman NY Times is going paywall next month

  • coverflow section looks proper jerky

  • Daily News AND Sports online together? In the one place? And for a fee.

    A-mazing.

Hang on, is it still 1996?

  • @deekster2 only first 2 weeks free though... :(

  • @joshualamgroup

Ah, I was going for subtle sarcasm. I'll be more blunt next time.

  • Who care for news that i can read free?

    try again murdoch. sorry.

  • But why no UK availability? ;(

  • @ConnorTurnbull It'll come with time.
