Great video! I laughed at that cop's negative comment. Not really sure how you wouldn't be able to tell that the video was sped up...I mean he could have looked at the other cars. Anyways I had a question, how bad is the commute going northbound from the downtown/midtown area? Is it like 75 where it is only bad going south in the mornings? Or is it just has bad going north as it is going south in the mornings? How about evenings?

You're incredibly lucky that Alpharetta or Sandy Springs PD weren't using Lidar. You would have been screwed. Not to mention the wreckless driving. I would have pulled you over seeing you moving lane to lane like that. It's morons like you that give me job security.
@Trailblazer343: Wow, really nice post there, you don't even know me yet you call me a moron, geesh.
Did it ever occur to you that video is sped up 3.5 to 4x normal speed? With the video being sped up as such the lane changes look far more dramatic than they really are.
@Freewayjim i take marta from the north spring station to art center station everyday, just to avoid 400. i only h ave to go from exit 10(old milton) to the station. and i could go to the m ansell park and ride, but it is impossible to get off that exit.
BTW, now that I think about it, was GA 400 ever widened north of Windward Pkwy? Remember reading GADOT had planned such a project, but I haven't been to this part of Georgia in so long to know what ever occurred. Thanks to whoever can answer my question!
Much fun! The camera doesn't capture how much topograhy there is, though. And when I lived there in the 80s, on a clear day like this, you could glimpse the front range of the Blue Ridge Mountains when you come over the ridge at Abernathy Road (1:49), and then much better views again by the time you get into Forsyth County.
Exit 9 and up on this road, basically way out of the city. But if you can afford it there are some nice, safe places inside I-285. The farther out you go the cheaper it gets.
It's the traffic merging FROM I-285 to GA-400 on one lane ramps that is the problem. The interchange of GA-400 at I-285 is antiquated. Then you just have so much volume on GA-400 North to Alpharetta.
@aswchris: Check out some of the traffic cameras on GA 400 during peak hour. I believe parts of the tollway carry in excess of over 200,000 vehicles per day; I'm pretty sure Jim filmed this on a Sunday. :-)
At 1:32 in the video, what's the name of the cool looking black(and a slight bit of white at the top) twin skyscrapers that appear on the right? It's also just northeast of the GA 400/I-285 interchange.
you just made my day! i loved in ATL 14 years before moving to NYC 9 years ago but make it home twice a year to visit family in Macon, Gainesville and friends in ATL, so I love the drive.........now i'm a little homesick! great music, great video, thanks!
I have a question for ya: What version of Garage Band do you use? I just looked at the site for the program, it seems like a really nice program that maybe at some point, I'll look into getting.
I'm using the Garage Band version that comes with iLife '08 (I think it's version 4) The only way you can get it is as part of the iLife Suite (Free with any new Mac)
Excellent video Jim. I wish I could make mine so smooth. My truck suspension wont allow it though...lol The music wants to make me find some platform shoes, sequined bell bottom pants and some Disco balls and hang them from my fan or something....thinking its the late 70's again
I can't recognize this, because usually traffic moves a lot faster! I WISH my commute was only 4:02

I don't think I ever watched this video. Interesting; I loved how GA 400 goes underneath those buildings in the beginning!
This song was really catchy, too. Perhaps you should become DJ Jim, too, lol.

Hey i gotta question. Im goin to Alpharetta for a concert. Is Alpharetta the same as Atlanta or is it another city?
clayaikenlover08 1 year ago
It's a suburb, about 15 -20 miles due north of Atlanta.
Freewayjim 1 year ago
=) oh ok cause i mapquested and it said like 20 minutes away. My family lives in Decatur do you know how far like in minutes how far away that is? (=
clayaikenlover08 1 year ago
Same thing from Decatur, 20-25 minutes depending on traffic, GA-400 can be a parking lot during afternoon rush hour.
US-78 East to I-285 North to GA-400 North.

At least there's only 1 toll. In Orlando and Tampa it seems like there's a toll to get about anywhere.

I love Atlanta! It has it all at a good price. I have lived here for 25 years. And the toll, ever since there was one has always been $.50
King and Queen buildings are my fave of the drive they are like guardians of the city, via 400.
What time and day is this? Traffic is very lite.
TheCottonTop 3 years ago
Why is rushhour brutal here? Can't traffic merge onto the I-285? 8 lanes seems pretty okay to me.
