I thought the recording seemed to be overwhelmed by the soprano line. I thought the other parts seemed subdued in comparison. Beautiful music though.

I get a lump in my throat every time I hear this. How beautiful. Horribly difficult for sopranos, by the way, starting with high F sharps at piano. Twice!

Mary, you weren't wrong at all. All cathedrals are churches. As for the music, yes, it is wonderful! Composers have written glorious works for the services of the Anglican Church, with this one being an evening canticle. Charles Villiers Stanford wrote many beautiful works for the church, with this one being a gem.
