The only way to change health insurance is to boycott it.
If EVERYBODY cancels their health insurance policy, then and only then will health insurance companies listen to us.
Boycotting does work! Remember when gas prices were $5 / gal.? We stopped buying gas and it went down. O.K., so it took a recession to do it, but the result was the same.
So send a message to your health insurance company! Boycott! Stop paying your health insurance premiums!
Single Payer Health Care is not socialism doctors, hospital ect. remain private and do not work for the gov't unlike UK or Canada were they are gov't employees. Single Pay Health care will be able to use billions spent on Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran, Miliatary and Gov't Employees Insurance Premiums to insure everyone. The money saved will help local gov't debts. Wanna support single payer Health Care Msg me for Link to online Petition and pass it on
Do not fall for the Ultra rich power base fear mongering about Socialism, I dont know a lot about the United Kingdom, but we in the states have social services that are for the benefit of everyone. Just because we have some public services we are not going to slip in the communism or any other isms. Dont be so paranoid.
Agreed. I live in Sweden and we have socialized medicine. Sure, we are one of the most liberal country's in the world. But when it comes to health care, I don't get the American way. Why wouldn't you just pay taxes so that EVERYONE can get help. It's not communism, it's a more humane way.
That seems to confirm the World Health Organizations assessment of our less-than-stellar level of care, with the added issue of how were paying so much more to get so much less. Corporate profits over the health of the people. God bless America
Furthermore, a recent report from the Business Roundtable suggests that the costs and performance of the U.S. health care system have put Americas companies and workers at a significant competitive disadvantage in the global marketplace. In a nutshell, Americans spend a lot more on health care than other countries, but we arent as healthy.
Then sometimes they wave the flag and tell me that we must not change our health care system because, in their opinion, the U.S. offers the very best health care available. Why mess with a good thing?
Here, too, they need a bit of education. In fact, the United States ranks 37th in the World Health Organizations rankings of the worlds health systems (below Malta, Iceland, Saudi Arabia, and numerous other countries that might surprise you).
Then they cry socialism, as if thats a bad thing. Certainly, the word has taken on some bad connotations through the years, but thats only because the radical right too often (and very vocally) equates socialism with Communism or Marxism, which are extreme flavors of socialism. They fail to see that national single-payer health care managed by the government would not be much different from our current system of socialized libraries, socialized fire departments, socialized police department.
Article 25(1) of the UDHR states: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
But human rights standards dont tend to sway these folks
In response to that, I point out that health care is indeed a basic human right, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), to which the United States is a signatory.
Whenever someone advocate for universal single-payer health care for all Americans, the right-wingers flood the web with all the predictable myths.
First, they tell me that health care is not a right. They say its each citizens responsibility to provide it for his or her family. I guess this myth gives them another excuse to look down on the poor who cannot afford the luxury of medical insurance. It makes them feel superior.
Every US citizen should be ashamed of our healthcare system. It is based on greed and profit instead of the patients well being. As long as the insurance companies control healthcare nothing will change. The insurance lobbyists will fight hard using scare tactics such as "Socialized medicine, you won't be able to choose, you'll have to wait months etc."
We need a single payer system now for every US citizen that covers medical, dental and prescriptions 100%.
Health insurance companies have bought and paid for the status quo. Their campaign contributions paid huge amounts towards both parties' election expenses. It'll take a miracle.
I don't think a single payer plan will come to the United States because everyone is so greedy and selfish that nobody wants to pay for it. Big business doesn't want to pay and taxpayers don't want to pay. In America it's survival of the fittest. The best thing this woman can do is live in Egypt where healthcare is free for everyone no matter who you are or where you're from.
I love how everyone in the states is happy to watch others suffer but as soon as they have a sob story and are not covered any more they cry in outrage.
For a new system to be created there needs to be someone who doesn't gain personally from it for the other people to take it seriously.

Simple, cut taxes and then everyone could just buy health insurance.
theporksicle 2 years ago
Some people can't buy health insurance because insurance companies won't sell it to them.
If you're sick, you can't go out and buy insurance. (it would be losing proposition for the ins. co.).
If you have insurance and you get seriously ill, you often need to fight to keep it. (They WILL try to drop you).
And fight to get your provider to cover the costs (legit claims are often denied).
Once you've lost your coverage for making the mistake of getting sick, don't expect to get it back

You want socialism? Socialism is a violent and coercive ideology. And it equals the end of all free enterprise.
