Such a classic feel-good track! Rod temperton is amazing.. what's funny is I thought about how similar this sounds to Off the Wall Michael Jackson before I even knew Rod was behind this too. Talk about a great signature sound
There is no one better tha Rod Temperton........The keyboardist wrote many of Heatwave's songs....and I hear a few other "thrillers" for Michael Jackson:)
Riduculous how seemless the music and harmony go together need a time machine to get back yo true talent who were actualy masters of their craft and were actualy acknowledged by others as such and not self proclamed icons but true muscians who put out an seemless masterpieces that will stand the test of time
When I see these groups heatwave, E,W,Fire, bros Johnson, commadores ,etcetra,AND EVEN FUNKADELIC , BOOTSY COLLINS, all I can think of is the house BUILT BY SLY STONE , right on baby can I get some skin?!
The song is about "The Groove Line"-a train that will take you partying. Not "Central Heat"! "We're riding on the Groove Line tonight...grab your friends we're coming through, where you get off is up to you..." Where does it say anything about a heater?
I was 14 when this song came out. I drove my mom crazy-I played the record over & over...it's still the shit. Back from the time when music was comprised of real musicians who played real instruments and could actually sing. I'm glad I was here.
Talkin about true funk...!! They sing well,Play their own instruments, and dance while singing and playing. Thats True Talent...!!!-Not this coot booty bullshit rap crap that is coming out now.
I can't get over the white guitarist in the back...He killin me Hittin all the steps no problem like a pro at this funky shyt. The 70's were it...good stuff
This fabulous, funky band suffered irreparable tragedy as a result of what happened to two of the original members; makes me doubly glad that we have these wonderful videos of them in their PRIME!
not the greatset of all time but definitlkey in the top ten, the competition:set it off,strafe/lets all chant, michael zager band/disco circus, martin circus/come home with me baby, dead or alive/use it up, wear it out,pat an mick/a little bit of jazz, nick strader band/let the music play adn give me tonight,shannon/heartbreak beat, psychedelic firs/what have i done to deserve this 12: dance version, pet shop boys with dusty springfield
They played it over and over again on the D.C. radio stations, and we moved and grooved to the music of 'Heatwave' time and time again. Their funky hit, "The Groove Line" had just about the right beat to groove with at any disco club. The memorable song became a huge top ten seller in 1978 during one of the most competitive times in Pop music history. It became one of disco's great "dance anthems" and was a contributing factor in making 70s disco, "The greatest damn dance music of all time!"
Let's get back to BrassHole's original comment, that RT "invented" modern Michael. All race stuff aside, I have to disagree with this initial premise. What made MJ great was his VOICE. Seriously, concentrate on his vocals and really pay attention. He did stuff that others simply cannot do. He is unmatched. James Brown is the same way. One of a kind, unique, never to be duplicated again.
To TheBrassHole, your talking rubbish,i heard several mentions on tv &radio about Rod they even played some of his tunes, maybe the one with the racist problem is you.oh by the way his names Temperton
Hi,Mario's my ex brother in law he's Spanish/Swiss he's now a Guru you can look him up on the web, once i took him round to meet a guy called Dave Gillard or Gilmore i'd meet through a girlfriend, when he saw Mario i thought he was going to kiss his feet,he said he'd heard everything Mario had ever played & kept thanking me for bringing Mario round,i knew Mario was good, after that day i knew he was brillliant,my sister's boy Dylan's the same unfortunately he can't handel it,what a shame,
Also by Rod Temperton: "Burn This Disco Out" - Michael Jackson "Live In Me" - Rufus "Motor Mouth" - Herbie Hancock "Livin In The Streets" - Aretha Franklin "Mystery" - Anita Baker "The Genie" - Patti Austin "Sweet Freedom" - Michal McDonald "Hey Lover" - LL Cool J featrng Boyz II Men "Im That Chick" - Mariah Carey .....an many many more!!!
All this monstruos hits are written by Rod Temperton: 1) Love X Love - George Benson 2) Stomp - Brothers Johnson 3) Give Me The Night - George Benson 4) Rock With You - Michael Jackson 5) Spice Of Life - Manhattan Transfer 6) Baby Be Mine - Michael Jackson 7) Off The Wall - Michael Jackson 8) Thriller - Michael Jackson 9) Groove Line - Heatwave 10) Boogie Nights - Heatwave
Every since Micheal Jackson died, they have not said shit about Rod Temerton. He invented modern Micheal. I'm so sick of black racists. When will the double standard end?
brasshole, i'm a couple of months late, but when michael died, they haven't said shyt about anybody, black or white.
hell, folks don't really talk about bobby taylor, who in a way brought the jackson five to fuller attention of motown (they stayed with him a while when they first got to california).
shyt happens...its not about 'black racists', since in the western world that's an oxymoron.
this does NOT take away from rod temperton, a musical genious.
STFU nobody was talking about racism on this until you got here, Rod Temperton has been recognized as a contributor on Off the Wall and Thriller for decades and when whites like you stop dealing the race card we blacks will stop playing it ASSHOLE.
Heatwave was an international funk/disco musical band featuring Americans Johnnie Wilder, Jr. and Keith Wilder (vocals) of Dayton, Ohio, Englishman Rod Temperton (keyboards), Spaniard Mario Mantese (bass), Czechoslovakian Ernest "Bilbo" Berger (drums), Jamaican Eric Johns (guitar) and Briton Roy Carter, (guitar).
Doing my grocery shopping this GREAT song came on the store's sound system. Myself and two other people looking over the selection of apples and oranges started moving and singing under our breath. We just smiled at each other....great memories!
The guy playing guitar isn't white--he is spanish. I wouldn't be surprize if he had something to do with the choregraphy since the steps of group see to have some latino influence. Also, Rod Temperton is on keyboards. Gifted in his own right. I was a teenager of the 70's and I loved heatwave then and now. I especially love the infusion of the different cultures of the group. Johnny Wilder seemed to really enjoy his craft!
Don't misread me about the white guy- It's just amusing to watch him dance with da brothers. I listen to this daily and love it. Hats off to anyone that can play, sing, & dance at the same time! Thanks for the info-not familiar with Razzmataz...
I can still picture me looking hot in my "disco diva dress nite" and just dancing. We danced so much, we'd have to kick off our high heeled shoes. Those were the days of good get down music. I had moved to NY then and the clubs were booming everywhere. Oh, yea, One Nation Under a Grove, Fundadelic....hehah BTW I'm a white Italian Girl...got my son loving this stuff and now he's a musician, percussion! I miss the 70's.
Hope your son keeps the r&b funk flame alive and I was a little 12 y.o. kid in 1978 trying to grow my fro out and my moms (who still laughs at the memory)and grandmom (R.I.P.) trying to keep it cut short at every point. The Kids of today are missing out on what great music is.

And let's forget Rick James and the Stone City Band's " You and I" and "Bustin Out" we used to have the radio station on different types of music but when "Grooveline" came on people would be dancing and singing in the cafeteria in my junior high school and main quad of my junior high school. This music was my soundtrack into my "teen years" and and slow grind against the wall at the parties during the ballads and the girls would say "don't touch my butt" but we did anyway. lolol
I bought this album LP (Central Heating)in the 70's and I still have it. It's not in bad condition! I really dug thus tune when it came out. Still funky 30 years later!
Central Heating was a spectacular album. My dad had it on 8-track and I would listen to it over and over again. I wish there was a video for Send Out For Sunshine. That is one of my favorite tunes on the album. Many thanks for posting this one though.

lol...asshole, given that to have 'racism' has to be based upon POWER, something blacks don't have in the western world, PROVE 'black racism'.
look, boy, you can blither all you want, but you cant prove any macro-level 'black racism'.
now, about the term 'poser'? precisely what am i supposed to be impressing, dumb ass.

Arise, Sir Rodney of Temperton, surely the funkiest brother ever to come out of Cleethorpes, UK.

Central Heating was a spectacular album. My dad had it on 8-track and I would listen to it over and over again. I wish there was a video for Send Out For Sunshine. That is one of my favorite tunes on the album. Many thanks for posting this one though.
