  • People do Have the right to make consensual arrangements with others regarding their bodies, IN THERE HOME, and I suggest it only because it is extremely Intolerable, look at all the teen Girls that cant wait to become strippers when they turn 18, can you imagine how many Woman would do this if it where legal, what about the Moral factor here? it was not called the world's oldest profession because it was ok to do, but fir the reason that Men want to engage in NSA sex, and that's ok.

  • @69coquito - Being a stripper is "extremely intolerable" to YOU, maybe. If so, you are under no obligation to work at or patronize strip bars. But let other people make their own choices.

Prostitution is called the "world's oldest profession" because it's always been around, and always will be. You can't successfully ban it. Trying is nothing but a waste of taxpayer money.

Oh, and by the way, many prostitutes work IN THEIR HOMES, and many clients host prostitutes IN THEIR HOMES.

  • If Gavin Newsome really cared, the guy would have been arrested and prosecuted. Newsome was a willing accomplice of this rape.

  • @ltsAboutJesus Loser

  • Newsom just doesn't get it -- decriminalizing prostitution will make it *easier* to go after sex slavery, not harder! Huge numbers of men (and a few women too) are clients of sex workers. Most are ordinary people. You probably know some yourself. They do not approve of human trafficking, or underage prostitution. If consensual sex is decriminalized so they don't have to fear arrest themselves, they are more likely to report non-consensual situations or the presence of minors to authorities.

  • @StarchildSF How would it be easier to go after these People? all San Francisco Has to do is inforce the Law, They could shut the whole industry down in one week if they would just stop thinking about all the Money the whoever is making from the Asian Mafia that run it, some things in this City just need to be crushed out with an Iron Fist, and that means the strip places and internet Prostitution as well, progressive thinking has kept this City down for years, its time to clean house in 2011.

  • @69coquito - If I understand your question, you ask how it would be easier to go after prostitution involving minors, or forced prostitution, if regular prostitution was decriminalized?

It's pretty simple -- most people involved in regular prostitution, both sex workers and clients, do not support non-consensual sex or sex with minors, and these sex workers and clients would be more likely to report things to the authorities if they could do so without fear of being targeted themselves.

  • @StarchildSF That is a Very good Point, however there are the ones that do look just for that, and owners that sell just that, it is a valid point, BUT it would be much better to just close everything Down, FOREVER, with an Iron fist, Have sex workers do real time, as they do in other Citys, I Love things about this City, and Many things I do not, it can still be a Very Liberal City without Coddling Drug dealers, Homeless People and Sex workers, it's time to clean House here.

  • @69coquito - What you're suggesting is extremely intolerant. People have a right to make consensual arrangements with others regarding their bodies, time, and money. I say we stop "coddling" anti-sex bigotry instead!

On the practical level, it is delusional to think authorities could "shut the whole industry down" just by enforcing Prohibitionist laws. Prostitution is called the world's oldest profession for a reason. Even if Prohibition worked, we can't afford it, in case you hadn't noticed.

  • @StarchildSF Or that Men Can cheat on there wives, there are so many reasons why making this legal is wrong, and so few condoning it, what this country does not need in another Amsterdam or Nevada, Prohibitionist laws would be wonderful for this, in Cuba if a person is caught Pimping any age Woman, or if a person is Caught paying for under age Girls, automatic Life in Prison. I'm really not worried, this will NEVER be Legal Here in San Francisco, I know one thing for sure,

  • @69coquito - Very telling that you would hold up a country run by an authoritarian communist regime as a model for public policy!

As for prostitution being legal in San Francisco, in the 1800s there were parades of prostitutes down Market Street, and some of the best seats were reserved for them in theaters on Sundays. Of course that was back when SF was "The City That Knows How".

Today SF is largely run by sniveling NIMBYs, and has become "The City Where You Need A Permit To Blow Your Nose".

  • @HeavenlyLoving Well they do have the best Medical system, but I like socialist Medicine, dif conversation, anyway there are so many that are a waste of taxpayer money, like being the only City to Pay a Homeless person Money, and then lay off Fireman and Police. It will never be legal here, However I'm glad to see that two People like us can use our 1st amendment in a calm Fashion, Maybe we will meet some time at a cafe and have really good engaging conversation, Take care, Peace to you.

  • @StarchildSF And that is when issues like this come up here, The Democrats, Moderates and even the conservatives come out in force and Crush Left Left Lefters and the Progressives, the silent Majority always win in these cases, it;s just to dam Bad that there silent for so many other issues here in Frisco I also do not think there is any anti-sex bigotry here in SF, go to any Gay bar, or take a walk through the Folsom St fair one day, Sex is amazing, but not in the form of Prostitution.

  • @69coquito - Prostitution consists of two elements, sex and free enterprise -- which one do you have a problem with?

  • "There's no reason to have a gate and a camera, if you're a legitimate massage parlor" says Gavin. Oh really? Aren't you the same guy who presides over a City Hall where people have to be searched to enter the building, and who has been a big proponent of putting more red light cameras and "anti-crime" cameras on the streets? But you don't want small businesses to use cameras or gates for their protection. Nice consistency there!

  • I will be campaigning against Newsome in the next election. I am guessing that anyone who runs against him is probably better.

  • I am for human rights, and I am for Prop K.

  • Once you understand what is going on inside these places, they quickly lose their glamour. You can't hide the abuse with neon lights and cute names.

  • Glad to see him telling it like it is.
