@maldon3three I didnt have the car another winter so cant be sure, but a new battery and charging the plugs a few times when it was cold seemed to do the trick.
@kml650 Hey, I haven't got the car any more, but if you do the dashboard diagnostic test I did you can work out if a new battery would help. Mine ended up fine after a new battery and glow plugs, but I still charged the glow plugs twice for good measure.
I've found if i ignore the stupid glow plug warmup light and turn the ignition twice for about 5 seconds it starts alright :). but the weather has improved too.
Mine sounds exactly the same as this and i have often wondered if there is something seriously wrong with it. I have only had it since December and it is my first diesel. I love the car once its warmed up, the performance is great it pulls like a train and its a fairly immaculate example for a 2002 but i HATE starting it on a morning to the point where i will get lifts instead of drive it. Im not sure there is anything wrong with it though.
@simonspiers thanks ill have a look into that, i had a look at the battery recently and it looks pretty new, its definitly not the original. do you have an opinion on the amount the engine is rocking and the crunk noise it makes when it starts? took it to a garage and they quoted me £850 for a new DMF and glow plugs :S
@TheTypetr The engine does seem to rock but so does mine and its had a new DMF. Cranking sounds slow, have a look at the diagnostic video I put on youtube, see what volts you get on cranking.
My aunt had a 2003 Focus 1.8 TDCi 115hp Zetec, was an AWFULL car to get started even on the summer mornings. It was taken to various mechanics and a number of Ford Dealerships and the car was NEVER sorted. Injectors, Glow Plugs, Battery was replaced and EGR Valve was cleaned out and had no affect at all. It never made that whine when it eventually started though. When it did start blue, black and white smoke came out the exhaust! Was sent to the scrap yard bcuz bcame to expensive to repair :D
@cmagennis927 oh dear, not a very enlightening though as this is the 1st winter iv had it... doh! scrapping not an option im afraid hehe. thanks though!
@stuntcrazy8 Yeap its been scrapped for near 2 years now lol.. The car wasn't worth fixing so it was written off, a new engine was probably the only way to sort it but the gearbox was on the way out too as was the clutch, plus the arches were starting to heavily rust after 5years.. It did have 115,000 Miles afterall
@cmagennis927 Ahhhdear! Rusty after 5 years? good ol ford ;) really? 115K is nothing! i have a 2006 focus tdci with the same 1.8 8valve block, thats nearing 130k and good as new! Hey, not to forget my works old mondeo, over 400K on this engine!
