  • dude, u sent me a message on my masking problem telling me to look through the comments but I couldn't find anything apart from the comment saying that the front image must be selected; I don't think that is my problem, it might be but I doubt it

  • This has nothing to do with this video, but you should do a video showing everyone your "Studio" or Stop Motion set-up. It would be pretty cool.

  • dude how do u mask in gimp2.6

  • thank you so much

  • tried it but it didn't work! when i rub it out, instead of the backround image replacing it; it kust comes up white!

  • @Nochet Look through the comments, someone posted a way to fix this.

  • when you take the pic of the minifig do you use the safe background as the base pic?

  • yeah, and you have to keep your camera really still , good time to get a tripod

  • when you take the pic with the minifig do you use the background of the base image?

  • Dude you're so close to spamming...

  • did you nkow that if you save the image as the same thing it wiil go directly into monkey jam if your useing mj

  • I cannot erase it, it appears white, but it is in gimp 2.6 is there a difference???

  • yes then you have to go to "layer" "mask" and "add layer mask" then go to "layer" "mask" and "apply layer mask" then you do the same thing.

  • you can zoom in by clicking ctrl and roll the "wheel" on the mouse

  • when i use the eraser it doesnt work white paint comes out

  • Add an Alpha Channel to the layer your erasing.

Open the base image, then 'File>>Open As Layers' and select the image you wish to do the rubbing out on.

    Go to 'Layer>>Transparency>>Add Alpha Channel'

Now all you have to do is the rubbing out

    xD

  • does this work on the mac OS? and when your done how do you get it into the animation?

  • VicousVidz is not right, because i did that.. and i saved. it worked fine at that point. but when i tryed to open it up it went to GIMP and it was just a bunch of sqaures that look like a checkers board..

  • TheStarWarsLego, that must be because either you haven't put on your picture on GIMP yet, or you added it at the wrong time

    HELP NEEDED!

  • Comment removed

  • video killed the radio star

  • PEOPLE!

If you have the problem of when u erase it turns white:

Go to layer, transparency, add alpha channel and try. That's what worked 4 me. (I have ver. 2.6 4 mac OS X)

  • DUDE thank u so much your tip actually works!

  • hey, i just tried this in Gimp but there's a problem I set it up the same way but still when i click the eraser tool it erases to white not the second layer do you have any idea on how to fix that.

  • Unfortunately I have not found out how to fix this problem because nobody has told me whether any of my suggestions work...

First, check if the top layer is selected, and that the layer you want to rub out is actually on the top.

Secondly, go to file, then preferences. Select "Reset" at the bottom, this will reset all your settings back to how they were when you installed.

If this doesnt work, I don't have a solution to your problem :(

  • I've tried everything and that by now and I can't figure it out it will either do nothing or turn white and i can't find any other videos on this subject so Ill keep looking if you figure anyhting out tell me

  • Okay I will do.

  • k sounds good I might ask around too

  • Does the same for me. :(

  • I have version 2.6, would it work the same way?

  • I havent tested it, but you could try it I suppose, it should work.

  • OK, I will! Nice video 5/5! :D

  • not working...

    =(

  • Please explain your problem to me, or your problem has probably been answered already below.

  • were do I download it?

  • link in description

  • i mask in bafran is that ok i knew how to mask in bafran easier but i do have GIMP

  • Bafran is designed for masking, so I guess that would be a better software to use.

  • does this work on a macintosh because I keep getting the erasing to white thing. sorry to bother.

  • I havent tested it on mac's so I have no idea sorry :(

  • i just downloaded gimp, i tried masking it the same way as you have shown, but it does not work, when i erase it rubs the image to white. what am i doing wrong?

  • Make sure you have the layer with the minifig selected.

(click dialogues then layers to see layers)

  • Also make sure that you have the layer without the minifig, on the bottom.

  • thanks mate,

  • thanks for putting this on youtube, the has really helped me.

    5star

  • Thanks this was so much help!

  • *spoiler* I'm going to use this technique when I'm having two boys throwing a ball to each other in my next film...

  • the minifigs head is completely out of the shot he could have just held it!

  • Could have done, but that would mean casting shadows on the set with my arms and I wouldnt be able to hold it still.

    Thanks for watching.

  • cool

  • is that software free?

  • Yes it is :D

  • hey im LEGO on bricksinmotion i still need some help please with my topic.

  • didnt work for me, i take a picture 2 times at the same place,1 without the minifig and another (open has layer) with, then i try to erase da piece but didnt work,he erases everything!

  • Make sure you open the background first, then open the image with the minifig on, as layers.

Make sure you have the top layer selected in the layer menu (click dialogues then layers to see layers)

  • Ah this is very helpful

  • i herd video killed the radio star

  • OK so I'm not insane for hearing it./

  • this is a awsome tutorial

  • Great tutorial!

  • mines really not working!!! i keep on doing exactley as you do in the video, but its still rubbing out the whole thing!!! i think i have the same problem as jamsterman1! plz help!!!

  • You got the top layer selected?

  • how do you do it???

  • Go to "Dialogues", select Layers, then the layers will appear. Make sure the top layer is selected, then do the rubbing out.

  • where is dialogues?

  • On the top, along the toolbars.

  • ah... you also helped me with my lighting trouble, thank you!

  • very helphful

  • nice tutorial

  • great tutorial...the one thing i get confused with tho is creating a sniper scope effect in gimp as shown on brickfilms.c0m

  • when i rub it out it goes white please help.

  • Make sure you first open your base image, the one without the subject, then import your image on top of the base image by clicking OPEN AS LAYERS and select your image, that way the image you want to rub out will be on top of the base image, and will already be selected for you to edit.

Or you might not have the top mayer selected.

  • sorry but how do you gey top mayer

  • Follow the video, if you do exactly as I did it will work. You may have pressed something and nackered it up, if so try reinstalling gimp or something

  • Grunge tried to kill the metal, but they failed!

    ....

Other than that, good tutorial x)

  • nice tutorial

  • Excellent.

  • Very good tutorial. I enjoyed it. I'm going to try this out. Thanks.
