if u are using the latest version 2.26 or watevs, u hav to right click on the second layer, go to layer, then transparency, click add alpha channel then click layer and transparency agen and click alpha threshold :P
Nochet: In case you don't find that, right-click on the top layer, and go to the bottom of the options that have come up, and hit "Add Alpha Layer", and then it will be transparent when erased (And will thus show the bottom layer). - 3D
dude, u sent me a message on my masking problem telling me to look through the comments but I couldn't find anything apart from the comment saying that the front image must be selected; I don't think that is my problem, it might be but I doubt it
when I do it in gimp 2.6 it is erase right?? but when I press erase and do it it turns white not the other basic pic I cant do it becuase that what happens
every body i have solution to white arazer prob open pic base image go to layer mask add layer mask then open as layers the one whith the object open layer add alpha channel rub out it should work if not personal message me
VicousVidz is not right, because i did that.. and i saved. it worked fine at that point. but when i tryed to open it up it went to GIMP and it was just a bunch of sqaures that look like a checkers board..
hey, i just tried this in Gimp but there's a problem I set it up the same way but still when i click the eraser tool it erases to white not the second layer do you have any idea on how to fix that.
I've tried everything and that by now and I can't figure it out it will either do nothing or turn white and i can't find any other videos on this subject so Ill keep looking if you figure anyhting out tell me
i just downloaded gimp, i tried masking it the same way as you have shown, but it does not work, when i erase it rubs the image to white. what am i doing wrong?
didnt work for me, i take a picture 2 times at the same place,1 without the minifig and another (open has layer) with, then i try to erase da piece but didnt work,he erases everything!
mines really not working!!! i keep on doing exactley as you do in the video, but its still rubbing out the whole thing!!! i think i have the same problem as jamsterman1! plz help!!!
Make sure you first open your base image, the one without the subject, then import your image on top of the base image by clicking OPEN AS LAYERS and select your image, that way the image you want to rub out will be on top of the base image, and will already be selected for you to edit.
Follow the video, if you do exactly as I did it will work. You may have pressed something and nackered it up, if so try reinstalling gimp or something

This is how you do it.
Open the base image, then 'File>>Open As Layers' and select the image you wish to do the rubbing out on.
Go to 'Layer>>Transparency>>Add Alpha Channel'
Now all you have to do is the rubbing out

hey, i just tried this in Gimp but there's a problem I set it up the same way but still when i click the eraser tool it erases to white not the second layer do you have any idea on how to fix that.
FutureFlicks 2 years ago
Unfortunately I have not found out how to fix this problem because nobody has told me whether any of my suggestions work...
First, check if the top layer is selected, and that the layer you want to rub out is actually on the top.
Secondly, go to file, then preferences. Select "Reset" at the bottom, this will reset all your settings back to how they were when you installed.
If this doesnt work, I don't have a solution to your problem :(

Make sure you first open your base image, the one without the subject, then import your image on top of the base image by clicking OPEN AS LAYERS and select your image, that way the image you want to rub out will be on top of the base image, and will already be selected for you to edit.
