@Codythecartaker the motor had been broken in. It was supposedly for Skip White, the owners son and got it off ebay. Good motor just didn't have all the right information. Lots of the specs I got were wrong. Anyways, keep on truckin'
bought a solid flat tappet 383 from these guys off ebay. Could never get it to run right. 1st off, intake gasket was torn between 5 and 7. fixed that, seemed to be running better, then started grenading pushrods. I was setting vlaves every couple hrs run time and could never keep them set. Got sick of that, pulled cam maybe 4000 miles on engine(absolutely hooped, lobes chipped and rounded right off, same with lifters). I Did a hyd/roller conversion and been happy since.
@DannyRemer you or the other guys proble didnt do the 20min. break in(20 mins 2000rpmto 2500rpm)alway any flat tap cam needs this breaking the first time its been started...other wise you have the problems you had
They build a good engine I have run a few of their engine's and had no trouble.at all..give Charlie Wood's a call..He know's what it take's to get you up to speed.
