  • I cried.

  • Listening to this piece , wherever I am , I feel like i'm home, everytime.

  • ughhhh. the traditional melody has been distorted beyond belief.

It has no character other than sounding like a poor man's australian/american country & western song.

Take the waltzing matilda lyric away and it could be any of a zillion ugly poorly written now country songs. take it off and bury it! please!

  • Is this a politically correct version of the song? Listening to it one doesn't hear why the swagman decided to end his life by jumping into the billabong.

  • will this be played in 2011?

  • Its amazes the hell out of the British that some Australians want total independance from Great Britain and to be free of the Monarchy. Not because British people feel that Australia should be part of its sovereingty, but because most British people think Austrilia already has full independance! Half the British nation doesn't even know that our Queen is also the Queen of australia! Thats quite a baffling fact to me!

  • @Phoenix1664 same with Canada dude.

  • There was a black chick that sang this before the start of a Aussie Final game one year..She did a great job of it..but I can't find her anywhere..

Can anyone help me with her name.. I'm asking PLEASE..

  • @EWETUBER2 you will probably find her in africa

  • First time I've heard or seen this song performed by this angel. Makes me wish I was born a Aussie. Loved it.thank you for such a wonderful and insperation tune

  • @boredtyper an angel hey? ;-)

  • I've always loved this song ever since first hearing it on my Kid Songs VHS so many years ago... :-)

  • i also like john harley westons version of walzing matilda as well as this one

  • fantastic song

  • Es una cancion muy bonita!!!

  • This version sounds too much mainstream.. ><

  • This was fantastic! Love this singer!

  • I love you as I love OZ Wonderful rendition!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @didaho you are a bad person!!

  • @ImPrettyDammit And you seem to love a homosexual pedophile..... Would you force you kids to that to that clown prdophile?

  • A Traditional AFL Grand Final song, pitty the AFL got rid of it.

  • this persons head is strangely large for her body...

  • this sort of version wrecks he feel of the song totally, over produced sung rediculously by thee wrong singer. What next? Glee singing it?

  • Go BOMBERS! WE WON THAT YEAR, And we had the best song played before it.

  • I'm a frenchie by nationality, but i'm aussie at heart (i used to live in sydney)

    beautiful place

  • I really love this version of the song, and Bachelor Girl is very pretty and has an amazing voice...BUT...the kids are really a corny touch lol

  • Lovely.

  • at 1:06 her skirt blows up

  • makes me want to eat a wallaby

  • @1Mafioso4 lol, the dingo ate your baby!

  • @treetoptop ..or did it?

  • I don't know why, but I've always pictured a young girl called Matilda dancing.

  • It's like their national folk song, and it's great! I wish we had something like it. The closest we have, which no one sings much any more, is Yankee Doodle. "He stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni". Try explaining that lyric. Our national anthem is The Star Spangled Banner and the national hymn is America the Beautiful, and don't forget that we have America and God Bless America too. But the Aussies have Advance Australia Fair and God Save the Queen also.

  • I guess Australians don't realize how ridiculous this song sounds in this dramatic R&B style. It's a funny ballad not a Whitney Houston vocal epic.

If you're gonna sing your national anthem in a serious style, pick a serious national anthem, not one about a drifter who steals a sheep and jumps in a lake

  • @kozmon0t this is not our national anthem! our national anthem is advance australia fair.

  • @kozmon0t You freaking idiot

  • @kozmon0t oi its not our national anthem you retard! this is just a lil folk song :P next time get ur facts straight before mouthing off at some other country or we'll blow ur ass outta the water wid our boomerangs!! lmao..

  • @1wwegal1 You can't use a boomerang as a weapon, mister facts-straight. Only non-returning throwing sticks.

  • @kozmon0t ROFL! Lol your the one who doesn't know the facts,, for one, boomerangs do return and A boomerang is a flying tool with a curved shape used as a weapon or for sport.

If you don't beleive me, look it up.

  • @kozmon0t And I quote "We'll blow ur asses outta the water wid our boomerangs. Lol..." Obviously I know it's not some kind of bomb, when someone says LOL at the end it's usually a joke.

  • I agree totally with kuboman. For such a small country, per capita, their accomplishments are unequaled.

  • She has a nice voice. A nice rendition of the song.

  • You can't improve on Banjo Paterson. And her voice is beautiful.

    God Bless Australia.

  • Check out the song and video " Voices That Care." It will blow you away.

  • Ive never heard of batchelor girl b4, maybe because im scottish but tanya doko has a fantastic voice! (g.scotland)

  • The best ever cover of such a classic traditional australian song!! (G. scotland)

  • She butchered it!

  • an awsome song

  • My name is Matilda haha :D

  • @Matilda0307 He named everything Matilda. lol

  • This is a beautiful version of this classic song by a beautiful woman, excellent. Haunting and gives me chills.

  • @treetoptop your kidding, SLIM DUSTY FOREVER!!!!!!

  • @Blacky98981 Hey, if you think Slim is better looking than her, more power to you! Whatever makes your skirt fly up!

  • @treetoptop i never said that, i was talking about how she sang the song you retard

  • @Blacky98981 You said it not me, since you are a fruity gay that is fine, just not for me you sissy.

  • so are just the fucking biggest dumb ass ever, its as if you don't have a fucking clue what i was saying, read the fucking statement i wrote dick head, I wasn't trying to insult you, I was just saying I prefer Slim Dusty's version of waltzing Matilda than this one, words can not comprehend how stupid you are, 39 and a retard, god.

  • @Blacky98981 hahaha

  • @Blacky98981 Please quit private messaging me about your fantasies of inserting a didgeridoo in your butt hole. Leave me alone you sicko.

  • @treetoptop Hey sorry mate, for the record that was not Black98981, i have been in Italy for the 4 weeks as a part of a school trip, you were talking to my brother, he hasn't got a laptop and i lent him mine, sorry for any inconvenience he caused to you. He won't use it again.

PS the song actually decent i don't know what he didn't like about it

  • @Blacky98981 Thanks, you seem really nice, lets just enjoy the music

  • @treetoptop Cool mate

  • I am Italian,..but this song moves me so much,..it give me trills anytime i hear it....!!so romantic,so proud,so free.....

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I had never heard of Bachelor Girl before, but what a great voice.

  • gosh mates...I'm cryin' like a child...beautiful moment...

  • I love this song! It´s the ultimate afirmation of your freedom and its value. Death before capture! In the song "The band played Walzing Mathilda" it paralels this song to the ANZAC´s who faught and died during WW1 and how they faught for the freedom that the song embodies.

  • Who gives a.... The Bombers won and The Hawks were no where near there. Overseas PNG learning how to win the 2008 GF AGAINST ALL ODDS.

  • i come from germany and we sang this song in our english lesson at school^^

and now is the whoul class almost every day in our english lesson singing this song xDD

  • I like this version alot.

  • You are the best!

  • Wow, she's absolutely slaughtering this song. Zero emotion, all fakeness.

  • Im an american who grew up with this song and though she has a great voice, shes got nothing on Slim Dusty. I vote ZERO for this version. I never want to hear it sung like this.

  • @cvcoco I don't mind this but SH1t Slim DID sing this. Good on ya mate!

  • awfull 0 stars and her head is WAY bigger than her body lol

  • I'm a Yank, friends and I will say that this young lady has a lovely voice, but.....after hearing Slim Dusty sing this I just can't see it being done any other way than the way he did it. It's your song, but we Yanks love it, too.

  • Please don't get me wrong, but this is an uptempo song. Bachelor Girl has a lovely voice, but Waltzing Matilda shouldn't be sung like a dirge, although, in a way, I guess that's what it is. It should be sung with the incredible, invincible, undeniable Aussie verve for life.

  • You know, Waltzing Matilda is actually a very sad song. It's about a guy who steals ship and falls in love with a girl who doesn't love him. In the end he commits suicide.

But you know, something about the way it's sung, it just lifts your heart. :)

  • no it's about a swagman who steals a sheep but kills himself when the law enforcement arrives

  • @REDnWHITEarmyFTM i thought it was about a man that was homeless and he had a stick with a bag on the end (forgot what it was called :\) and he talked to it as if it was a person. but maybe i'm wrong.

  • @epurplelizard

yes thats true......... then he steals a sheep (dunno why, maybe he wanted lamb chops for dinner lol) but the the law enforcment comes and he commits suicide by drowning himself in a "watering hole"..... i think thats a well

  • fuck me dead, have you even read the lyrics to the song? Have you even checked into why Banjo wrote the song?

It's NOT about a woman - it's simply the tale of a swagman who steals a sheep, gets busted and kills himself.

ONE possibility people argue is that Banjo wrote it BECAUSE of a girl he was in love with - nothing more.

  • Good, but not as good as Slim Dusty!

  • I like this song =)

  • This Australian song is the equivalent of Elvis

Presley's great song " An American Trilogy."

  • I searched for Matilda Ledger and I found this song. Wow!

  • Im Australian and i love this song well of course i do im from Australian u guys can come to my page!

  • Her voice is nice, but disgraces Waltzing Matilda. Waltzing Matilda is meant to be sung by a rough voice that has seen the dust of many trails and smoke of many fires. It is meant to be rough with character and history

  • It's too bad that Elvis Presley was not from

Australia. I would love to have heard him

    sing this song.

  • If I ever give birth to two girls I would name them Matilda (after this song) and Bonnie (after celtic song Loch Lomond). Simple and genuine song.

  • oh my god she has such a beautiful voice <3

i love it. i wish i could sing like her...

really awesome... and the song is so amazing ..

thank u for that song (:

@ orm i think like u i want to have that on my funeral too... but please from her.

i think it will never happens but i think i would sing with her from heaven...

  • I am a Swede and I wish that they would play this song at my funeral.

    Genius. Simple. Great.....

  • I'm an American but I think the Aussies have the best talent - movies, music, sports - beautiful country and a beautiful people.

  • I am Russian and also think they have a great talent in all of these... and this song is just so good! It is deep though the story looks so simple.

  • @kuboman Thanks Kuboman.

Really appreciate that. All the best.

Hope to maker it to your country one day!!

  • @kuboman thanks mate, means a lot =] America's a really nice place too, a lot of great people and a really nice country.

  • @kuboman You haven't gone elsewhere then.

  • That was bloody awesome

  • Hard to tell which is better Kylie or Bachelor, but as a film wise this is better. I love this song anyway though.

  • That Was Class!

Still Love Slim Dustys Version Better But That Was Amaazing!!!!

  • Love this anthem . Not an Aussie but still find this infectious & meaningful . Perhaps not the best interpretation of this classic but still love it . And core blimey is it really 9 year ago since the Sydney Olympics ? Where does time go ????

  • Comment removed

  • your not going to believe me, and it really doesnt bother me, but my great great great great grandfather knew Banjo Patterson, he was also a poet

  • I believe you! :>)

  • thanks, there is actually a clip on my profile singing asmall snippet of poetry from him.. (henry kendall)

  • Great song. Lovely girl.

  • What a wonderful time it was back in '00. When we had the olympics, Ansett, the old stands at the MCG - times sure have changed.

  • wonderfull

  • se me ponen los pelos de punta

    viva spain!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't mind the jazzy version...but the whole middle verse was left out!

  • Love it.

A classic song no matter who sings it.

    Waltzing Matilda is a gem.

    Thank you for posting this.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Well, what shall I say, the walltzing mathilde is a folksong isn't it. Ther's only one man in history that can sing it .

Look at the video Slim Dusty- waltzing mathilde it's the perfect version

  • Yes only one man..... but what about Judith Durham? she does it with heart and soul.... g'on yersel hen!

  • great version - she nails this, and in her own way

  • The perfect example of someone who simply cant sing, shouldn'g sing, sings WAY out of tune, and has no sense of rhythm whatsoever...and as for those poor kids being made to flap around like that....the whole thing is a typical example of "modernism" gone quite mad!

  • a little that's stupid reply'ed

  • Rather different, but not a bad version.

Hadn't been aware of this group before. Looked them up, and must say she looks lovelier here than in other pics.

  • sounds good, she looks gorgeous too!!

  • its not the same!!

  • oh god, this sucks, its not supposed to be this jazzy, its a folk song, supposed to be sung rhaspily and up beat, this sounds like a lamentation,

  • CARN THE CROWZ

  • not bad, tina arena has a pretty good version, but agreed, no one does it like Judith Durham!

  • She's got a good voice, but this type of song isn't really for her... Judith Durham will always be the best... But I commend her for trying... I'd never be able to... love the song though...

  • she si avery nice lady tania is very nice to tlak to

  • Nobody...I MEAN NOBODY, will do this like Judith Durham. Nice try tho.....

  • I think this is really beautiful

  • Prefer Slim Dusty ...

  • I'm not a singer. But her rendition stinks.

  • Rude and unnecessary, sorry.

  • Nope, she's trying to hard for a folk song like this. Generic sounding.

  • and what makes you a music expert, Id like to see sing it in a stadium

  • Having listened to lots of music. Her voice is totally bland.

  • awesome rendition! simple, elegant acoustic arrangement! xxxxx

James and Tanya rock! Bachelor Girl 4ever!

  • they need to bring this back to the AFL Grand Final, its tradition like when they sing Abide With Me before the FA Cup final, the entertainment has been rubbish without it, used to get the crowd goin, wished they had played it at this years game GO HAWKS!!!!!!

  • A beautiful version of a beautiful song. I am an Englishman living in Australia and this song makes me tearful every time. 5*

  • i didn't know this was a Aussie national song. I remember sing this song in 4th grade, and up untill one day I was watching the olympics and I herd this song sang..

  • this was quite an amazing version and makes for a great pop song. I'm from the U.S. and first heard this song at the 2000 Olympics. I still consider it the most emotional piece ever sung at any Olympic games(I've seen my share). May Slim rest in peace, sad to hear of his death.

  • I agree with all the other posters, that was a terrific version. I normally can't stand that song, and cringe every time I hear the sggestion it should be our national anthem, but that was great.

  • Becky i take it you're Australian, well I am Canadian, your country has a beautiful national anthem....love it

  • OMG!!! This is a beautiful version of this song (K) Love your work Tania.

  • this my 11th birthday and bombers won!!!!!!!

  • I agree Brad...I remember when I watched it live on TV and was captivated by the performance. I was delighted when I found the recording only a few months ago and thought to upload it.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Thats the best version of that song Ive ever heard. Her voice is incredible, the harmony is wonderful, and the instrumental background is super.

    Brad

  • I too agree with Brad! This was so good!

  • love her voice....

  • Tania Doko is quite an underated Aussie star. Looking at her solo work now with interest!
