  • Well!....I am 53 and was never a fan of any musical group let alone the Beatles. I do though remember the strife of the times that John Lennom sang about. The full circle of life is illustrated here. One boys voice was finally heard and then the pay off for his audacity; death. The Bells playing his message are now a prayer ringing out, thankyou John Lennen, we hear you now.

    David Bell, LosAngeles

  • This was a wonderful act of the Cathedral! I appreciate this, it's truly an act creating understanding beyond christianity and religion - just like the song.

  • John did not belive in christianity

  • @DieToFleshNotSpirit he actually did in a late interview he said that whatever brings you close to Jesus to do it, he also wears a cross on his famous NYC shirt photo

  • взаимоисключающие параграфы :)

  • "Imagine what no haven" from the top of the church LOL^3

    Lennon damn you was right!

  • lol isn't the first line of this song "imagine there's no heaven"

  • Great, a Christian cathedral is playing a song that is anti-religion.

  • @themeecer Bell ringing is not a religious thing, it just happens that bells are put in a church.

  • @quwers It quite clearly is a religious thing; do you honestly think that churches "just happen" to put bells up for your own personal enjoyment. More fool you if you are enhancing Christian worship and giving glory to God without realising it. And thank you for so doing, of course.

  • every time i hear the song or even this vid I cry as its so sweet and one of the songs my granddad loved.

  • I find cathedral bells v. relaxing .. ignoring that it only vaguely sounds like the song I think this is beautiful

  • I just dont hear the song. I mean... i hear the bells but i cant make out the song.

  • Some comments seem to be under the impression that the bells are being rung "full circle". In fact they are being chimed, a very much easier process for sounding tunes on bells.

  • Despite the sonic shortcomings, I think it sounds just great. And a huge amount of effort on the part of the bell ringers.. superb!

  • it's very strange for a catholic man to see in this church a bar and then to see the bell to sing Imagine....

It's impossible to think Pope that plays with his bell song like master of puppets :)

  • Excellent! Yes, you definitely have to do a little imagining to make out the song, but it's there.

  • While it sounds like a great idea, and was certainly a skillful performance by the bell ringers, it totally fails. It sounds awful.

Though John would have appreciated the effort I'm certain.

  • I hope you appreciate that Change ringing bells like these are not meant to be rung this way, and for them to be rung is this manor for the sake of this song took a lot of effort.

These bells are the heaviest and largest set of Change ringing bells in the world, and make a lot of noise and the bells hum to a vast extent. The tower is far to big for the bells to be listened to comfortably, and the echo reflects off the walls for a long time after the bell is struck.

  • I'm sure you're right. I don't think any bell-ringers would have been able to make it sound good - it was just not possible.

You would just have to "imagine" what it would sound like, to sound good.

  • You're very right. More bells would be needed, sharps and flats etc.

  • we have been to it

  • someone shuld have been playing the actual song while this was hapening

  • It would have been over by the time they finished ringing the second line.

  • i miss you liverpool fuck i was happy there why i return to saudi fuck that shit

  • Very cool! It can't of been easy to ring such a tune on those bells.

  • violetbloodtimisoara: dude, stop exploiting the muslims. not all muslims are like the fucking taliban or the god damn al qaeeda. iam a muslim and i love john lennon hell i love ROCK N ROLL! so yeah its not bad, we're not offended.

  • I don't think I would have recognised this was "Imagine" - as it's played quite slowly (which is fair enough, being done on bells). It just hasn't worked as well I hoped.

  • I've been to this Catherdral cemetry yard many of times. The size of the cathedral is stunning. I've heard they're planning to build a bridge spanning over the cemetry next to it.

  • What planet are you on mate?

  • beautiful cathedral and very nice people from Liverpool; the kindest people ever known in England.

  • THIS IS WONDERFUL !!!!!!!

  • Beautiful and so well done...the bellringers deserve a lot of credit for doing this....it just amazes me how you all did this....wow...well, it's ringing out all over the world and I bet John is smiling...

  • Well, I thought that was pretty damn impressive!

And I'd also like to point out that Christians are often a minority amongst bellringers, so if you don't like the sound of the bells it's only fair to blame atheists too.

  • The real reason for playing the song on the bells was to start off the Alder Hey Childrens Hospital 'Imagine' event held in the cathedral. See the website.....Mr. Buddy

  • Well thank you Mr. Buddy for your more-than-unhelpful critique of the whole thing..... try verse 3:

    Imagine no possessions

    I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

    A brotherhood of man

    Imagine all the people

    Sharing all the world

If it sounds like shit then I suggest you see an ENT surgeon & get your ears sorted out.

This wasn't for you to have a pop at Christians. Maybe the world would be a better place if people like you kept their big gob shut.

  • 6,000 views and no one has commented one how painfully ironic it is to hear this song on cathedral bells!

You are an idiot unless you are trying to be sarcastic which I highly doubt.

    Imagine there's no Heaven

    It's easy if you try

    No hell below us

    Above us only sky

    Imagine all the people

    Living for today

And it sounded like shit, they ruined a great song! Way to go Christians.

  • i wanted to but i thought i would get ganged up on by the Xtians

  • Just because they're in a church doesn't mean the songs off limits.

  • Thanks for posting this, Ianart. Such a beautiful tribute to a great man and native son.

I had planned to go up from London to hear the bells along with these folks, but wasn't feeling well.

I've been there, and it's a magnificant cathedral along with the Metro Cathedral.

  • How exactly were they ringing them?

  • Imagine is one of my all-time favorite songs, but this didn't sound like any song I've ever heard -- just noise pollution.

  • hmm, maybe you need a bit of IMAGINATION

  • If you bothered to find out how difficult it is to do something like that on tower bells you wouldn't be saying that! Your ear just isn't developed enough to appreciate it.

  • I think they seriously need to redesign the whole bell thing because it sounds absolutely pathetic! Look, we're not exactly living in the Bronze Age anymore where stinking bells were cutting-edge technology. And convert the churches into something useful to humankind while they're at it.

  • @VariedVids or new ears

  • John would be proud and smiling from the skies at this!

  • I used to ring bells, you wouldnt believe how hard it is to do this kind of thing. Playing one bell twice quickly is properly difficult. Even in a 12 bell tower

  • i thought that tune rang a bell.

  • Leave it to a church to completely destroy a great and profound song. Those bells suck, and didn't sound anything like it.

    Anyway, FAITH IS RETARDED

    /watch?v=9L__fGpfV3M

  • It's church bells you knucklehead. It's an honor for John's song to be played like this. "Imagine there's no morons, living in the world ..."

  • 5 stars and favorited, thanks so much for posting it!

  • Bravo, John would be proud! Long live our imaginations and our faith!

  • Heard it on Upper Parli

  • yes I beleve there was a problem with one of the bells so they had to improvise. Still a good effort

  • No its very cool!!

  • Sounds slightly weird! but a very good effort!! Congrats to all involved!

  • nice :')

  • So do Church bells have the full range of musical notes then ?

It didnt sound right to me

  • I doubt it, there's only 13 bells I think, sounded like there's a few notes missing but still very recognisable

  • Yes some parts sounded ok but with notes missing it seems a bit of a non starter with a lot of hype.

  • Listen zestyfork - if you can do any better be my guest. You obviously have no soul but an R. Sole. I'm not a fan of Lennon or this song & he was usually off his tits most of the time but this is certainly inspirational....and well done sam too - a difficult task on those bells which don't have any chiming mechanism.

  • how did they manage to do this then, surley not in full circle?

  • many bells don't have a chiming mechanism...

many people still chime the bells by hand...

i didn't get the whole soul thing you were on about, but it takes all sorts i guess...

    take care!

  • This is awe-inspiring. John Lennon lives on. So beautiful. Thank you for posting it.

  • That was absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this with us all... Wish I'd been there

  • Most beautiful thing to have happened in a while.

  • This sounded amazing from outside LIPA on Hope Street!

  • Some people just have to

    either

    a) see no joy in the world

    b) try and be controversial

Both option A and option B are boring.

  • quite a coincidence that...

reading your comment made me bored

perhaps you shouldn't comment at all, my love

    lol

  • we hope someday you'll join us...

  • WONDERFUL! Wish I could have been there.

  • I love it :)

  • Less than 200 views and no comments? We'll have to change that :) Thanks for posting, very interesting video. John would have loved it.
