Hi I'm a newbie to Spinal Tap. I know they are based in comedy even more than the metal in the music they do, but do they actually play their own instruments?
@MrNostalgiaX yes they do. they are technically a "real" band, but they were created for the sole purpose of the mocumentary "This is Spinal Tap" - but the the actors who portray the band mates do in fact play and sing everything you hear. they have also toured in the past and preformed live shows as a way to promote the movie and just have a jolly good time.
Its Boccherini's Minuet from String Quintet No.5 in E major.......for those that want to comment and accually be right........HAHAHAHAHA I'm just kidding.....but seriously its not Mozart...
i personally would not call this "the classic solo", the classic solo for me is nigel soloing by himself using the the two guitars, his foot and an untuned violin lol
They parody just about every rock band from 1959-1982. My bandmate says they reminded him most of Molly Hatchet, I thought they were a three-way blend of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen, with a dash of Judas Priest meets Queen.
as much as i love all of this movie and i really do appreciate you putting up this clip, the real "classic solo in this is spinal tap" has got to be from the vid here on youtube titled "Nigel Shreds." no question really. that's the one. but thanks for playin'!
Boccherini String Quintet in E major Op. 11 No. 5 Minuetto in A is the piece I used to think it was Mozart but after years of listening to classical music i now know.
not really - they're taking the piss out of a rock cliche where rock guitarists inject classical music into their solos to make themselves look "cultured".
what is this piece?

how is the name of the entire song?

The 'solo' is note for note a Mozart piece. I think a wind ensemble, but not a syphony or concerto.
