The relationship between Korea and Japan is different than other countries. People are talking about how koreans are over-reacting, but janpanese people have already tried many different ways to distort history and insult korea. Even though Hetalica is just an anime, it clearly contains historical concerns as its characters represent individual countries.
I don't think any of the Hetalia characters are completely possitive. Like already said a few times. France is a pervert, America is really annoying, England gets drunk a lot of times, Poland is a gay-like character, there are rumours that The Netherlands smokes drugs and I'm sure there are a lot more of these things. A few of these could be even more offending to the country than S. Korea so I don't get why Korea has to complain about it. I'm Dutch and I'm really like my Hetalia character.
Okay, they are honestly over-reacting. Korea's character went a bit too far; it's true. The show is called "Useless Italy" and Italians didn't protest. America, England, and France don't have very postive characters. The show is only trying to teach viewers some little things about history in a funny way. If they gave Korea a chance, maybe the producers might of included important Korean events. They will give Koreans postive attention too, not just that Koreans grope people all day.

I personally don't blame the mainland Korean reaction: the Korean character can be summed up with two things: Grope! and "I MADE THIS!", pretty much downplaying Korea as some derivative country that fawns on "superior" neighbors. To be fair enough, Hetalia also does a crappy job of portraying Italy (we got Caporetto and Greece but seriously?) but character Korea IMO is taken just too far. I don't mind it personally, but it is an issue when it makes historical revisionism ok.

France is a pervert, America is really annoying, England gets drunk a lot of times, Poland is a gay-like character, there are rumours that The Netherlands smokes drugs and I'm sure there are a lot more of these things. Okay, they are honestly over-reacting. Korea's character went a bit too far; it's true. The show is called "Useless Italy" and Italians didn't protest. America, England, and France don't have very postive characters. The show is only trying to teach viewers some little things about history in a funny way. If they gave Korea a chance, maybe the producers might of included important Korean events. They will give Koreans postive attention too, not just that Koreans grope people all day.

I personally don't blame the mainland Korean reaction: the Korean character can be summed up with two things: Grope! and "I MADE THIS!", pretty much downplaying Korea as some derivative country that fawns on "superior" neighbors. To be fair enough, Hetalia also does a crappy job of portraying Italy (we got Caporetto and Greece but seriously?) but character Korea IMO is taken just too far. I don't mind it personally, but it is an issue when it makes historical revisionism ok.

Stop the hate for S.Korea. You have to look at it from a different point of view; I myself am Korean, and I DESPERATELY wanted him to be in the anime, but many people (the older generation) can't forgive Japan for what they have done to our country in the past (assassination,annexation,etc), and Korea's 'oh, Japan I wanna be just like you!' is a parody of something so much more ugly. It's sad that he got pulled out of the show, but with Korea and Japan's relationship right now it's complicated.

from the anime, some fans create more character for japan. they make him into a perverted otaku, but in the anime, he's the most boring and reserved of them all if you haven't noticed. korea is actually one of my favorite characters, i dont get why koreans have to be so offensive about these kind of things. i was really sad when korea wasnt in the anime. i think that he's a funny and lovable guy. and he's not the only pervert-ish kind of person in the series, i mean just look at france! anyway, i think that all the hetalia characters are awesome just the way they are! :D

Actually, a lot of people (including me) think Korea is a lovable character. He's kind of like Italy; hyper and annoying to some of the characters, but that's what makes people like him. I'm not going to call Korea stupid just because some Koreans didn't like the character as everyone has their own opinions. However, I'm American and even though I am nothing like America, I'm not offended. Heck, France's pervertedness is probably worse, and they aren't mad.

(Part 2/2) Maybe not politically, but definitely on a personal level (especially with the older generation). Most nationalities respect their elders, and agree with their opinions, which influence certain actions (like this news reporter). They're trying to convey the message on why Korea had to be portrayed in such a manner, and the Japanese aren't. Koreans are portrayed as more conservative beings than the Japanese, which is why they (the Koreans) find it insulting. Does that make sense? ^^;

I think,Character of Korea(in Axis powers Hetaria) Doesn't mean irony or feeling of dislike.
All things that they blame are just jokes. and actually ,They're good(positive) jokes.
Official Hetaria story(comics,animations,etc) are good story for Dojin creaters like me.
For example, Korea(aph) squeezed China(aph)'s breasts and it's a good topic when they make the gag or 801 doujinshi.
