We are being whip-sawed by dollar devaluation and rising commodity prices. Even under a gold standard they still used fractional reserve banking, offering 9 to 1, paper note to gold being held. So a gold standard is not an answer.We need a Treasury System, not the Federal Reserve National Banking System.
Going to a gold standard will be bad for the US. The US was on a Bimetalic Standard until the late 1800's, when it was moved to a gold standard. This was an economic catastrophe.We need to return to a Treasury System and loose the National Banking System.
A bi-metallic system is another way of saying gold & silver. None the less it is a stable method of holding value within currency. If there was any 'catastrophe', it was created by the banking trusts who still to this day demand control over the currency of the world. It is the Federal Reserve that must go!!
When the City was able to push the Gold standard on the USA, it caused a contraction in currency that led to a profound economic slowdown. A Bimetalic system is not a Gold Standard. Having both silver and gold as the backing of currency helped maintain a reasonable ratio between the two metals, and liquidity for the economy.
A contraction of the economy is the answer to inflated currency, read 'fiat' currency or what we call legal tender...thats the printing press "money" we are forced to use and the govt. (FED) prints whatever amount they want. When stable currency replaces it there is no longer inflation, hence a 'contraction' or a slow down of debt based economy.

I agree with you wwood14. A metallic standard for currency would create a scarcity of captital which would cripple our economy. Growth in the past was rather slow and small, growth now is MUCH greater than in the past.
With a Treasury System the nation could issue new currency interest free(aka Greenbacks)to support economic growth and building projects. Then tax the money out of the economy later in order to keep down inflation. This system would require protected industry, thus placing the burden of taxation on foriegn companies that import to America, thus freeing us of taxes!!
