  • when you say eat slowly

you mean chew the food slowly and take small bites. into your mouth right.?

  • @5graffitiartist5 More time between bites.

  • Steve I have a question. I surely don't ask this as being offensive, just curious. Were you ever overweight? Also is it possible for someone who is 340 LBS to loose weight and obtain a six pack?

  • @Gucciproof No problem. No I wasn't. A six pack is possible but being able to see it will depend on the amount of excess skin you have IF ANY once you lose the weight.

  • yeah i used to eat alot but slowly and i was as i am now, but i was forced to eat quickly it gave me other health problems as well, despite eating alot less

  • so true i figured this out not to long ago myself and now i come across this. wow!

  • @Ducati549r Theres also more great info on my BlogTalkRadio show. Once there search Steve Turano. The show can also be downloaded from iTunes. The most recent shows can also be heard on my website home page (at the bottom) once they upload. Tell a friend! ~Steve Turano

  • In my case, I eat like an animal: 5 minutes for a spagetti, 5 minutes for a chicken breast, 2 minutes for two toast, etc. I eat as if someone was coming to steal my food at any second! Give cheese to a dod, and they'll swallow it. All that matters to them is quantity.

  • Food cannot be enjoyed unless I gobble it down. Eating slowly is torture.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be aware of the fact that it takes you a while to realize you're full. But to me that merely means that I have to gobble down reasonable amounts of food and then wait before I go for second helpings.

  • is it ok to eat fast as long as I tollerate hunger well and count calories? it is after all just the calorie deficit / surplus that matters

  • You are so right Steve...I use to eat way to fast and end up feeling miserable and gaining weight b/c of it...Now when I have a meal I eat slowly for 20 minutes though I'm usually full after fifteen...Another thing that really helps me is I'll drink an 8oz glass of water before meals so that I'll get full even faster..Anyway this tip worked for me, thanks for posting=)

  • My pleasure. Glad it helped!

  • wow, very informative and it's free! thanks!

  • That is my problem. I kind of inhale my food.

  • he knows this stuffreally well.. wooww

  • Only if it causes you to eat too much.

  • eating faster does not make a difference in weight gain though does it?

  • Yes, eating faster makes a big difference to weight gain. Your brain has a trigger which is supposed to tell you when you're full. If you eat too fast, it doesn't have time to kick in.

Say you were eating a big steak, fries and onion rings. If you eat slowly, you might find you were full before you were half way through the plateful. But if you eat fast, you could eat that whole meal. That extra food goes straight on your waistline.

  • Why do you say that? Most overweight people I know do eat too fast (including me). I didn't think I ate too fast until I tried some of the slowing down ideas

I guess I was comparing myself with friends and family who also eat too fast, so I didn't realise.

  • You're basically repeating what Steve just said in the video...

  • @BellydanceOz I can personally confirm what you're saying. Someone starting a weight-management program may not have to change WHAT they eat. By taking forever to eat what they normally eat, they will control HOW MUCH they eat. That's the key.

  • i would do this, but what the hell can i do to slow down? lol

  • lol

  • Put down your fork, spoon or sandwich between every bite. Don't wash your food down with a drink - chew it until it goes down on its own (you'll end up with better digestion too)

  • thank you :)

  • If I am right, and correct me if Im wrong. There was an ABC Special on this exact subject. Something to do with the French? Anyways completely agree big fan!!

  • yea, but how could i pull eating a 15 minute meal when i have a 10 minute break at work?

  • your screwed. your life is over since u'll be forced to eat a 10 minutes meal which will no doubt make you gain weight. that 5 minutes short is definitely going to make u morbidly obese.

  • drink a protein shake....fills you up and is better

  • eat less food. duh.

i have said this for so long, i mean, i didn't really know it had anything to do with calories, but i don't know why people eat so fast, why have good food, if you can't enjoy it.

and i always wondered why when i'm starving and my stomach is hurting. why even if i'm eating really fast, it still takes a while for me to not have a hunger pain.

  • Maybe you need to eat more =S.

  • @ThaHeartOfLife That's why there is so much obesity. People no longer take time to enjoy the food. It's all "Go! Go! Go! Go! Back to work!!!". On a 10-minute break, I would suggest you eat a banana or an apple. 5 minutes is a lot of time to eat an apple. Cut it in pieces, and add some salt on it.

  • That's exactly what I do. I eat really fast and then 10 minutes later feel bloated.

It's awesome to see someone who actually can describe the bad things we do!

  • Thanks!

  • Is there any way we can get a video on the use of creatine/supplements? I've said this before..but am yet to see one. I've seen a lot of other people requesting this as well.. I think it'd really clear a lot up.

  • Eating foods slowly also helps you digest better. Great video.

  • I've been eating quickly for a long long time, nearly all of my life. I had a colonic a few weeks ago, and was amazed to see the sheer amount of unproperly chewed food come out. I still find it hard to slow it down, though. Breaking a lifetime's habit is hard to do.

  • Good to hear!

  • that's what I do :)

  • hey steve if u eat just one whole big sized meal a day is that bad for u

  • No. It just gives you all your calories at once but this is not bad. I know I couldn't do it because no matter how much I eat at one sitting I get hungry later.

  • hummm...eating all your calories at once will slow down your metabolism.

  • and a lot less too.

  • I normally eat really fast, eating 3 people's meal in like 5 minutes. But thats just me i eat a lot depending on if its slow or not lately, ive been changing to a more healthy and lower calorie diet.
