  • I wish I could see the rest of the album played at the night gallery e.g. Taxman, Mandocello, Cry Cry, Daddy...

  • Cheap Trick should be as big (or bigger) than Kiss

Cheap Trick should be as big (or bigger) than the Beatles

  • Oh !!!!!! Long time no see! *Big silly grin* Classic! Looove these guys, so glad The Ottowa incident left the band unharmed.... :)

  • I do really love this song, which is why I was so frustrated...I once recorded them doing it live, but I ruined it by accidentally covering the mic on the camera while trying to manage a good close-up, so I went to a gig in another state the day after, just to record it again...they didn't do it, though, and it wouldn't have mattered, anyway, I got the tape taken away at the end of the show...it has one of the most intense conclusions EVER, Robin's fucking incredible...my fave Cheap Trick song..

  • This is an example of how NOT to make a fucking video...the intense ending w/ Robin screaming is wasted on showing Rick jumping around playing guitar...really disappointing....

  • @cathoderoy This is 35 years old! People weren't slick with videos back then

  • Respond to this video... This is a great example of their weird, offbeat and somewhat creepy style. Love it!!!!!!

  • Bun E. Freaking Carlos!! I got to see them live at the Garden which was intense, but the entire building shook when he banged those drums!!

  • great tune - great first album -

you gotta love Cheap Trick -

  • the screaming at the end cracks me up xD

  • They kind of reminded me of bands like Kiss, Def Leppard , Poison...Each individual had personality Not just a stiff puppet playing thru their set while the lead singer does his bit and lead guitarist does thiers

  • I LOVE this song....It's Cheap Trick's "Walrus" if they ever had a Walrus. ;-) I love the build...Yes, what you said about the sublety of the build of this song is mind blowing. I just saw them perform this live in Anaheim about a week ago...and WOW!!!

  • originally titled the Ballad of Richard Speck, if I recall correctly, the Night Gallery was a rock bar just North of Chicago. Cheap Trick worked very hard slamming it out in the bars around Chicago before they broke big

  • @big7foot Im from Alton Illinois and they played at the expo there when I was in 5th or 6th grade, and I remember they said "ballad of richard speck" I only remember this because my dad had to explain who richard speck was to me.

  • I want to be Rick for the 5 seconds starting at 3:25! Robin must be watching somehow because he seems to be laughing at what Rick is doing behind his back. I'd be wanting a cigarette after that too, and I don't even smoke!

  • I love this video and was so happy to find it here!! I rented the CD from the library and listened to this and Mandocello over and over all the way from Phoenix to Vegas yesterday. I can't get enough of Cheap Trick!!

  • I agree so underrated. Best live band I have ever seen

  • elisabeth swan

  • They've done everything right that a band could do as far as creating history. That's why I like them so much..

  • This video is pretty cool.

  • This is an awesome tune! I didnt even know it existed.........

  • Cheap Trick has always reminded me as the American version of The Beatles.

  • Used to be called The Ballad of Richard Speck. He was a serial killer of RN's in the 60's. Had to change the name of the song for obvious reasons. Used to see them around 75-76 for three bucks. What a bar band!! Strangely, had a big gay/lesbian following. Ahhh...good times.

  • @feeway12 You said it! CT should've been inaugurated into the Hall of Fame 30 years ago. They still rock and are one of the most respected bands ever. Not only that but they are genuinely nice guys, at least so everyone who has ever met them says. I would love to see them live but not much chance sadly, as I live in Northern Ireland. That would be an epic trip to a gig!!! Rock on CT!!!

  • @00Muttley . Cheap Tricks first recording was released in 1977. The Hall of Fame Foundation was created in 1983. The first inductions were in 1986. One of the qualifications is the artists first recording has to be released 25 years before induction They've now only been eligible for 3 years.

  • @bluejazz51 Thanks for that BlueJ. I wasn't aware of that. Being from Northern Ireland we are not familiar with the Hall of Fame, which is as you know an American concept. Regardless, CT always had a big British following - certainly among my friends. We were sad we weren't able to get to any of their gigs when Rick was really bouncing all over the stage. He is still fantastic but, with age (like us all!!), not so energetic. Still one of my all time fav guitarists though. The whole band are ace!

  • One of my faves..

  • Just saw them in Austin on 3/19. They ROCKED this song! Robin's still got the pipes

  • Fuck yes!!!!

  • The 1st LP RULES!

  • I love the first Cheap Trick Album...the tracks are raw, but show polish...a lot of gems..it's such a powerful album, before they had the edge "polished, and systematically removed...enjoy it everyone, because music nowadays is sooo contrived, packaged, and marketed that it's getting harder to find real music

  • This song proves what an amazing songwriter Rick is. Love the daring lyrics, crunchy guitar, and Robin's screaming.

  • wow, I almost forgot these guys was my favorite back way back in the 70's

  • What a great song, a real nod to the mini opera's of The Pretty Things, The Who, Kinks.

The subtlety of the brutality of this song overwhelms me, a real Classic -for the ages :D

  • had this before budukon , still best cheaptrick ever now digitally remastered with 6 other old never heard of songs , this was suppossed to be too hardcore 4 1977 it says on new cd jacket love every single song

  • I have this on tape still. haha. I need to upgrade because it's been 20 years since i heard this album..

  • The first album is my all time favorite!!

The new stuff is like the first album!!!

    Me so happy!!

    Johnny

  • I love the cutting edge jumpy and misdirected camera work that predates today's cell phone videographers by 30 years.

  • Best song they ever did imo. LOVE it.

  • Damn glad to see CT has a youtube page! Yeah their 1st album was su-poib !

  • Wait, this isn't a power ballad, wtf ;)

  • Rick looks like a serial killer at the beginning. lmao

  • Most underappreciated band in rock today. One of the best live bands as well.

  • waukegan

  • Cheap Trick's first LP kills !! They're work after is great but the first will ALWAYS be sofa king amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I agree, the first album is amazing! easily their greatest effort

  • I first bought IN Color in 1977, loved it, went back and bought the black and white lp the next week, been a fan ever since and seen them several times in concert. Still buy their new lps too.

  • The last 12 years musically they got creative control of their music back and their current out put has been incredible. What people loved about them back then they will love what they are doing now

  • I agree Rockford is still 1 of the 6 CD's in car CD Player

  • @kevinocooldaddy Agreed I own Cheap Trick (the black album), Special One, and Rockford. All 3 are great! I need to get The Latest. Has anyone heard it all yet?

  • Comment removed

  • @dylanfan1969 Yes, it's amazing! I haven't found anything they've done that I don't like. "I Dig Go Go Girls" is even growing on me now, and that was a hard one to take, at first!

  • @dylanfan1969 OMG, "The Latest" is INCREDIBLE!!! How the fuck do they keep on doing it? Rick Neilson's a genius...

  • what about bostons debut album?

  • What does a wimpy, crappy band like Boston have to do with the legendary rock n roll force of nature that is Cheap Trick?

  • what about it?

  • Awesome!!! These Night Gallery videos are great.

  • A RockyGems 5 star choice!

  • Album is Awsome. Saw them play the entire 1st album in Philly back in 98.

  • @rickkrackk I saw them do it back then, too...that was the one I picked to buy tickets for for my whole family, 'cause they did all three earliest records in a row in Boston...got tickets for me and another person for "In Color" the next night, too, but everybody declined...idiots.

  • This tune blew my mind in '77 and I still suffer the consequences today.

    Thanks Cheap Trick!!!! :)

    ROCK'N'ROLL!!!

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • The following bands all have CLASSIC debut albums: KISS, VAN HALEN, AC/DC and The Knack. But the GREATEST debut album EVER is Cheap Trick's from 1977!

  • You are so correct, I have and love all of those records. I saw Cheap Trick for the first ime in 79' at the age of 12. They are the best!!!

  • ROBIN! I swear it! i'M gONnA MaRry WiTh YoU MY LONElY boy!! (L)
