MANY people like the Papa Roach and Nickelback's of the world just rip off the old stuff and never advance or change or move on. But if you'll notice, Mindless Self Indulgence isn't exactly "rock" music. Their albums have alternately taken elements from Metal, Industrial, Jungle, Rap, and Electronica. They're definitely doing their own thing, which is what this entire song is about.

Wow, you're taking this online debate a little seriously, I'm thinking. Want a list of what I listen to? Fionn Regan, Joel Plaskett Emergency, Bob Dylan, Cream, Pearl Jam (just to name a few). The only reason I even PLAY Zep or Young is beacuse its EASY, and I only started guitar LAST YEAR. You don't KNOW me at all, I made 4am as a response to a video my friend made when they were bored early in the morning! I listen to all the bands you listed as well, AND both Zeppelin and Neil Young.
I'm taking it seriously because MSI are a legitimately original and unique band, and I feel the need to support them over bands like Zeppelin because of all the guys on here telling me how they're the greatest band of all time (you didn't pull that one, but many others have).

You could try writing songs about the good things in life. Thats what good music is about. Its either about focusing on the good things in life so we can accept them better, or the bad things so we can realize our problems, and face them.
Listen to their cover of "Bring The Pain", it doesn't sound anything like the Method Man version, which requires a damn good bit of originality. I think you should read up on how many Zeppelin tunes are reworked versions of classics from Muddy Waters and others.
MSI combines rap, industrial, and rock in a pretty damn original way.
This is not about a trend at all, they've been around for 10 damn years, longer than any trend you could possibly be thinking of.
And no, there are no good mainstream rock acts anymore, but the more recent ones would be Wolfmother, Blind Melon, Jane's Addiction, The White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine... classic-rock riffs sort of died after the 90s, but this song is not aimed at successful bands, but rather the kids at home learning these riffs and then sticking with that through their life, without trying anything different, unique, or original.

MANY people like the Papa Roach and Nickelback's of the world just rip off the old stuff and never advance or change or move on. But if you'll notice, Mindless Self Indulgence isn't exactly "rock" music. Their albums have alternately taken elements from Metal, Industrial, Jungle, Rap, and Electronica. They're definitely doing their own thing, which is what this entire song is about.

Listen to their cover of "Bring The Pain", it doesn't sound anything like the Method Man version, which requires a damn good bit of originality. I think you should read up on how many Zeppelin tunes are reworked versions of classics from Muddy Waters and others.
MSI combines rap, industrial, and rock in a pretty damn original way.
This is not about a trend at all, they've been around for 10 damn years, longer than any trend you could possibly be thinking of.

And no, there are no good mainstream rock acts anymore, but the more recent ones would be Wolfmother, Blind Melon, Jane's Addiction, The White Stripes, Rage Against the Machine... classic-rock riffs sort of died after the 90s, but this song is not aimed at successful bands, but rather the kids at home learning these riffs and then sticking with that through their life, without trying anything different, unique, or original.

I disagree with that I'm afraid. I think people who sculpted music into what we have today, i.e. metal, which page more or less helped invent in the first place, means he and all the rest of them that influenced the music we have today should be remembered and loved. Without Jimmy Page and Zep, there wouldn't even be an MSI in my opinion. This mindset you seem to have of hating all the influential artists of the past is a bit confusing and contradicts a genuine love for music and it's history.
