oh come on, they planned for only four, a lot was left hanging after season 3. they spent so much time building up the conflict with hearst and then never resolved it. christ, wu had like 200 guys ready to fight at the end!!
I didn't find Deadwood until it started running this year on DirectTV. and I was simply knocked out by it. I'm amazed HBO let it die rather than resolve the half-dozen story-lines that were strung out all over the place. I did get the feeling that they let things drag too much the 3rd season as far as Hearst is concerned. But the remedy there is changing writers, even producers, but not canning he damn thing.
I really wanted to see Al, his boys Dan, Silas and Johnny, his ally forever Wu and his uneasy ally Seth finally come together in all-out-war against that psycho Hearst and all his evil sellout minions!
if i win 90million in lotto next week i will pay for as many seasons as i can, bloody fantastic vid nadavnoy. the best thing that i ever had the privelidge to play on my television
I had been waiting for a nice video like this. My wife and I watched all 3 seasons in 1 week. I couldn't get enough. Al is one of the greatest characters ever put on television.
Magnificent show, great actors at the top of their game. But too expensive for the relatively small number of viewers, ambiguity and complexity not being most Americans' favorite mode of entertainment. But I'm glad we at least got three seasons of it, even if the clash between Swearingen and Mr. Hearst was becoming too good for words just when it ended! It does look like Ian McShane's role in upcoming "Kings" on NBC has traces of Al (if not the amazingly profane dialogue). Good job on the video!
You're absolutely correct, the language was so vivid I am sure it surpassed the average American Joe. Very disappointing for the rest of us. The eloquence of such veracious vulgarity was music to my ears.
At first I thought you were some hooplehead nutjob. But this video was God-damned appropriate. Good job! I wish we could somehow organize all of these people into a movement to inform David Milch we are still out here waiting for the movies he was gonna make to wrap up this story. The show is still making money in DVD rentals and purchases. Costs weren`t prohibitive. The guy`s who dropped the show should be put in a hall of fame with the idiot who invented New Coke and the phrase "My Bad".
Nice vidio. I miss Deadwood more that any show that is gone. The producers had a show that could have been the best ever and they couldn't figure out how to make it last more that a couple seasons...Nice geniuses...WISE UP as Amy Mann says.
the reason the show DEADWOOD ended after 3 short seasons is as follows.
PLEASE PAY ATTENTION
1] to many top notch actors being called elsewhere
2] unbelievably small audience due to uptight, bleeding heart liberal, religious, not willing to come to terms with reality and profanity.....while harbouring assinine taste in true talent.
3] HBO's arrogance and unwillingness to pay the money needed to continue an epic program.
Very good reasons stated about Deadwoods demise..The thing you left out was, HBO also had to make a decision on another season of Deadwood or a second season of Rome. Rome and Deadwood had very expensive production costs. HBO felt that another season of Rome was needed to show Octavian's rise to power...they had to make a choice.
i agree completely with you guys i really cannot understand why deadwood was scrapped it was for me the best show on tv i love the sopranos and the shield as well as dexter but deadwood was something else i really was.
I think its because the real story it is loosley based on kind of ended time wise and 2nd it was a very expensive show to maintain... oh and the guy who made it/wrote it wanted to do that awful John from cincinatti show....
HBO SUCKS!! They had a Goldmine in Deadwood. Olyphant's Seth Bullock was the best Western character since anything Clint Eastwood has done. F HBO Co-ksuckers! Olyphant should be the next Dirty Harry.
BRING DEADWOOD BACK HBO or I will NEVER subscribe EVER again!
@billyoldshoe Yeah, sort of but the show is not edgy enough for me & he is not "mean" or tough enough like he was in Deadwood. Too mainstream TV = boring. I hope next season is a LOT better.
Deadwood was the reason I kept paying my HBO subscription. What is Milch doing now? Nothing in the ranks of Deadwood I'm sure. Get writing more Deadwood episodes Milch, the character archs, stories, circumstances; there's a myriad that can be written. HBO kiss my ass and my subscription good-bye!
Why do they always fuck the best shows like deadwood?!?God I really liked that show. Those fucking cocksuckers dont have a fuckin' clue on what pepole like to watch.
This was such a great show and I really hope that HBO will make the two movies or a final season (or more :-) than just one!). So I've started a petition (I know, the most will think "LOL" but it's ok for me. It's just a little try!!!).
Well done. The finest drama in television history, and I miss it like a member of the family. I will not subscribe to HBO again until they deliver some resolution to Deadwood; in other words I will never have HBO again. Cocksuckers.
Everything comes to an end. Jeez. Even Bonanza and Gunsmoke couldn't run forever. We live in the real world. But...Why must HBO continue to start something then quit without ending it ? I.E.: Rome. Carnivale. Deadwood. The Sopranos had its run and ended....well, somewhat gracefully. Six Feet Under had a bravura show-ender. But that was it. The other 3 just kinda left you there...wondering....hoping...then nothing. I still encourage all to dump HBO due to lack of current direction or content.
Rome, I thought, totally had an ending. That was my favourite thing about the second season, it had an actual finish. I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Unlike, of course, Deadwood, which was just not near finished, or Carnivale, which, come on now, had the most intense cliffhanger ending ever, and then nothing.
Sopranos blows. It was decent in its first season but then quickly tapered off whereas Deadwood and Rome consistently delivered the good. Aside from these two shows 24, Battlestar Galactica, and Boston Legal are excellent shows worthy of mentioning. Despite 24 Day Six being bad, Powers Boothe managed to make a relatively 1-dimensional character somewhat interesting.
Fucking HBO Cocksuckers...Sold out on the best show ever to grace Television, the best EVER, bar none, it should run for 20 seasons not a meagre 3. And cancelling the movies? What the fuck are these people thinking about! Damn I hate HBO and David Milch please please make more Deadwood, everyone is waiting...
Carradine's portrayal of Wild Bill during season one was reserved, well played, brilliant. His subsequent murder scene was horrifying, and a look into the future of how HBO would kill off the show. But then, that's HBO. They were on top of the world with Carnivale, Deadwood, The Sopranos, and 6 feet under - now they are in the toilet where they belong. If you haven't dumped HBO yet, do it.
Yes, enslave the actors and force them to play even if they don't want too.....
HBO made the best television series in the history of television in the last 10 years, seconds after these end you guys are ready to hang them all from trees, nice loyalty.
loyalty to people I don't even know? fuck you. There were company politics in the way and probably it's best series was left by the wayside for piss ass poor shows like entourage.
For my money the greatest show in television history. Deadwood will truly be missed. A damn shame they are never doing anything with it again. The movies have been cancelled.
David Milch: Thank you for this show. I know that you are going to make the movies. Why not the big screen? Fuck HBO. Get the money yourself. Your masterpiece.
Cannot understand why the powers that be..pulled the plug on such a wonderful piece of TV drama and yet they persist in producing some of the modern day crap..!!..could not run a piss up in a Brewery methinks !!
yes i guess that after that cocksucker hearst left (and he was a real dude I believe) not much really happened historically. Take your point about the cost which must have been huge, some others have,to the detriment of credibility, kept dreaming up more and more "amazing" scenarios to keep the audience and I am glad that Deadwood did not go that way.Cant stop watching it,Bless you Al,Dan,Johnny,Seth,Trixie,Wu,Doc,EB and all the other limber dicked cocksuckers.
HBO killed Deadwood because they couldn't afford to keep both it and Rome going at the same time. They had just built a 200 million dollar set for Rome and spent 120 million on the first season, so they canceled Deadwood, despite having higher ratings, to save the 60 million it would have cost for the fourth season. They were actually getting ready to produce the fourth and were talking with HBO about the fifth season when the decision was made.
