BOTH ENDS BURNING, ONE OF THE IF NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT SONG OF THE NEW WAVE/TECHO-DANCE/ELECTRONIC ERA. THIS SONG WAS THE FOUNDATION FOR A NUMBER OF GROUPS. DURAN DURAN INCLUDE. THIS SONG HAS IT ALL. IN FACT THE WHOLE ALBUM WAS A TOUCHSTONE FOR MANY.THE 3RD VERSE IS SUPERB. ROXY PERFORMED THIS IN CLEVELAND, 1975. VERY WEIRD. YOU HAVE TO DIG FERRY'S MILITARY LOOK.
Agreed....I've always gone to the live shows more looking forward to watching Phil and Andy. But I still support Bryan's solo efforts and hope to catch him in Miami this fall.
@xs10tl1 It is. In addition to what you caught, Ferry tends to sound far worse live. Also, if you have the right programs, you can compare this to the album cut and see that they're identical, this is just kind of "muted".
@ruadhanmcelroy I disagree..I've seen every Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music show that's come to Cleveland, since 1974 and Ferry sounds just as good live as he does in the studio..I've seen a number of shows from Pink Floyd..Led Zeppelin..Elton John..to the Rolling Stones and Bryan Ferry holds his own as a frontman...
@801liveable Well, I'm not just a fan, I'm also a singer w/ sensitive hearing, so I pick up on how polished he sounds in the studio vs live; his difference is subtler than many who really need the studio, but there's a big difference between "good frontman" and "good singer". I never once doubted Ferry's ability to front RM --I prefer the ENO albums, & Ferry's Torryhood leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but he's clearly a good frontman. What he's not is a good singer.
@ruadhanmcelroy You know what i mean when I stated "frontman".Let's not play semantics. So you're a singer? Surely you're not saying Eno is a better singer than Ferry..I'll take Bryan Ferry's "Strictly Confidential" and "Always Unknowing" over Eno's "Cindy Tells Me" and "Blank Frank" anyday..Bryan Ferry, is a singer..Eno, a personality, a very good one though, in the sense he's hot a true performer which is almost not that bad..Listen to Ferry's "Casanova". Right on the mark!
@801liveable Yes, & my 1st comment was about Ferry as a singer, so please don't insult my intelligence. As a singer, he lacks control over his voice & relies too heavily on affectations; he sounds better in the studio. I never said Eno was a better singer, but surely there are reasons to listen besides voice? Ferry's a poet, & Eno an innovator, I think they worked better together than apart; but then, I'm arguing logic to some-one on a mission to convert my opinion of Bryan Ferry.
@ruadhanmcelroy I really don't care what you think. All I know is you're wrong..First off, you're too inexperienced to make your opinion. You haven't been "around" long enough.I'll venture to say you've never seen Bryan Ferry live. You come off as a pompous kid know it all.Yes, Eno is an innovator but remember this, if there was no Bryan Ferry there would be no Brian Eno..Ferry and Eno did not work well together. That's why Eno left. Please do research before you broker an opinion.
@801liveable No, Ferry and Eno had personal differences and artistic that split them up --but the first two RM records are superior to all subsequent RM records. My opinion doesn't need an age comparable to yours, as it's dependent on artistic merit alone, and as an artist, I'm absolutely allowed to voice it. Get a life. Seriously, honey.
@ruadhanmcelroy Yeah, I love you too big prairie rose..Have a very merry, merry Bryan Ferry, Christmas and while you're at it listen to the "Bogus Man"..Maybe you'll learn something about Ferry and Eno..I still say you never saw a Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry concert in your life.."Mayday - cut down to size again..What then - when less is more my friend"..
@801liveable So what if I haven't (even though I have)? When I'm rating his skills as a singer, live recordings will suffice, assuming they're of a decent quality. Sure, in some ways, his live presence overrides what he lacks in vocal ability, but you're clearly too stupid to see I've been saying that all along. I hope when I'm your age, I'll still have the presence of mind to realise what an argument is about.
@WoodRatGirl Any musical relation between Ferry & Bowie? They were probably two of the the most influential musicians in the 80's but I don´t know if they something together...
So anyway, more importantly, who are the backup singers?

This has to be an overdub. Also explains why you don't hear the background vocals...nice try.

Love those hip swivels that the backing vocalists do! Too bad their vocals are missing...

I prefer the longer version of this, from the album.
But still an awesome track!
