I'm sorry, I find this video irrelevant and mundane at best: Case in point; you are making a lot of hypothetical assumptions which are unsubstantiated? Also, even with a unit gunner. Said gunner is trained to lay suppressing fire in short 2-3 second bursts, contrary, to any protection detail that is tasked with guarding... Anything? If i was in active combat, my rifle would be set on semi-auto for accuracy and ease of follow up shots, not full auto suppressive fire based on hypotheticals.
Could you do a video about cut off survival run? Where you would explain what to do when you are alone, cut off from any communication in enemy terretory?
The army is going back to back to issuing fully automatic rifles. They are buying M4A1's with heavy barrels. Those pencil barrels heat up very fast. I have a vid where my Colt SP-1 is smoking.
@esh325 The standard M4 & M4A1 barrel profile was already heavier (medium-heavy 4150 steel) than govt "pencil" barrels used on the older CAR16, M16A1 & govt profile A2. Part of the issue lies within the barrel construction itself. If the US military required cold hammer forged barrels on the M4, M4A1, & M16, in conjunction with double chrome lining like on the M249, that would increase the heat resistance and barrel life from 10,000 rounds to 20,000 rounds.
@Everett07630 Interesting. Double chrome lining. Never heard of that before. Is it something that most rifles don't have? Yes, the hammer forging sadly hasn't really taken off in the United States yet. Only a select few here hammer forge their barrels.
@esh325 My new Spike's Tactical AR15 upper does :-) I purchased it from Aimsurplus."These barrels are made to the Mil-Spec for the M249 SAW. They are the correct Certified CMV material and they are also Hard Chrome lined to the M249 SAW Mil-Spec, which is almost 2X as thick as the Hard Chrome on a Mil-Spec M4".
@Everett07630 That's pretty cool. I've read that Nitriding is arguebally a better process. It binds to the actual steel so you won't have less accuracy like you do with chrome lining. Plus I heard they will wear less and be more corrision resistent then a chrome lined barrel.
i know a trick to help cool your rifle quickly in a prolonged fight, canned air, flip the can upside down and it blows a super-cold air due to the reaction of the chemicals in the can (it will give you frostbite, even in 110 degree heat), spray the barrel and bolt down just for a few seconds and it'll cool rapidly..
@millerusaf Oh I understand the concept, its just the rapid temperature change that worries me. Metal loves to fatigue and crack with huge temperature variance. But I'm not saying you couldnt do it either.
@CrystalHunter1989 Yep. suppressive fire doesn't need to be ultra fast fire. Only shoot at the rate you have to. Alot of people never think about fire discipline.
@millerusaf That is because "fire discipline" to 99% of the world population does not exist or comes from Rambo where you hold a trigger down and a 30 round clip becomes a 5000 round clip and perfect control.
@usmccapdevil I say the M240B is the money maker these days. I love the 240. Even out past 800 meters, you can just lay down such a wall of hate and discontent that no one wants to try and walk through :)
@millerusaf In our OP the M2 was the best, MK19's were crap, they wouldn't stay clean for a day and jam up all the time. We carried most of our 240's to lay hate, I still don't know how people video record these things when we got terrorizers to kill cause we chewed up some mud huts with the 240(would have been epic to record)
In last ditch... it would be helpful to have a bottle of motor oil around... you can just pour it strait on to cool the barrel

@esh325 I agree, the industry as a whole should start advancing beyond chrome lining. Example Glock and SIG.
