It sounds like a Carpenter loop. Maybe it was common in synths of that time, or maybe Faltermeyer stole it from Carpenter. There's another theme in BHC2 that's a clear and direct steal from John Carpenter. And the eerie sound is really a Carpenter schtick anyway.
