What the guy in the blue tights would like to have right now is for his two fat, out of shape opponents to take notice, cuz he will go somewhere in his career.
Johnny Weaver always sounded like he was DRUNK. He never says Kernodle. It was always KERNOODLE, What a joke Weaver was as an announcer. He'd definitely put u 2 sleep talking.
Rood didn't start the whole striptease routine until he went to the WWF. Rood's character was a work in progress. From NC he went to Georgia Championship Wrestling and the tutelage of Mr Wrestling II. From there, he went to Memphis where he changed his last name to Rude, and started his "fat...out of shape..." ring rants. He took it to Florida and then to World Class and honed his antics there then went to WWF.
You forgot his time in Crockett with Manny Fernandez as tag champs. He was still learning to be a good worker and didn't really become one until he was in WWF for a while.
The Ravishing and the Ragin' are one of the all time most underrated tag teams, like Sarge and Kernodle.
I think that this was when Rick Rude was getting started in wrestling. He hadn't been established yet and he was sure roughed up in that match by Slaughter and Kernodle who were popular back then. Typical rookie year wrestler mistakes.
Wow did Rude look green as hell! Couldnt have made him anything but a jobber! I think back then almost everybody started out jobbing...Natural progression and what not.
David Crockett was a horrible announcer, looking back on it his train of thought was boring and stale. He never said anything catchy or funny like Joey Styles, Lawler, Ross, or Vince.
I got news for you: Lawler and Ross have been stale for years now! 'The King' with his drooling over women young enough to be his daughters and 'J.R'? Nuff said!
thats because it was considered a sport still in those days..Today wrestlings a joke in the WWECW ...With the exception of ROH and some other indies...Lawler andROss are a joke...Styles best days are far behind as well.
"What I'd like to have right now...is for all you fat, out-of-shape, North Carolina sweathogs!!! Keep the noise down while my partner and I job to Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle"
In JCP, it was Rick Rudd instead of Rood. Good footage of Rude when he first started out. Road Warrior Animal wrestled as a jobber there as Joe Lauren. Rude was the first choice to be Hawk, but I understand that Ole Anderson felt that Mike Hegstrand would fit that role. Barry Darsow and Nikita Koloff were also trained by Ed Sharkey around this time. Sadly, Rude and Mike Davis are no longer with us. Thanks for the memories, but you two left us too soon.
Yes, Sweet Brown Sugar did wrestle for JCP for a while. That's the identity that Skip Young took on while in Florida. They used to show him against Abdullah the Butcher on TBS in his early days a good bit.
This must've been Rick Rude's first tv debut.

Hey... that's right! He had a great run with Fernandez, while Paul Jones as manager polished him up a bit more.

Yeah but 2 years later Rude was main eventing in Memphis as a heel against Jerry Lawler.

At least Rick came back 3 years later and was tag champ with Manny Fernandez.

And isn't it ironic Rude kept one of those World Tag belts

Also , that finish is the move Hawk would soon perfect.

Nikita (Scott Simpson) had suffered an arm injury and his debut was delayed for a year. He made his debut for JCP in June 1984.

Mike Davis was a good wrestler, a little underrated also. Rick Rude didn't know how to jirate yet.
