This is one of the rare moments when The Man in Black looked afraid. Right before he pushed Desmond in, he was totally astounded that he struck no fear into him. Since fear was what he wanted, he threw him into the well.
Did anyone not see this coming as soon as they arrived?
All that foresight Desmond has, and yet it didn't register that the man (who BTW dosen't act at all like Locke used to) had him tied to a tree, and was staring him down like a piece of bad meat earlier, might not be the kinda guy you wanna stand next two a well with?
Its kind of like the creepy guy inviting you into his scary looking van for some "candy" Its always a bad idea.
I saw it coming too. When a good guy and a bad guy walks up to something dangerous, like a hole in the ground or the top of a skyscraper, you know someone's gonna fall down. :)
Desmond isn't afraid because he knows about the alternate reality and what he has to look forward to. The type of information is what Flocke is using to mislead his followers to helping him escape.
@RocAha8ter He seems to be moving "through God's channel." Desmond can see all the things that God can see. Like Dr. Manhattan in "Watchmen", he's not puppet master, but he can still see the strings.
this moment was slightly disturbing, my guess since desmond is alive in the preview, smokie did not intend to kill him, just put him some place that nobody can find him.
@edvaira Yeah, the only way to die from a fall like that is if you land on your head, and it's not like Desmond was falling down the well headfirst or anything... :-P
@edvaira Yeah, I don't know what his aim is, but I don't think Smokey wants Desmond dead. After all, when Smokey wants you dead, he doesn't mess around or leave things to chance (the poor pilot from season 1, anybody?).
@AleezaChocolat He obviously can't kill Desmond, because Desmond is not just a candidate, but probably above that level. So he gets Sayid to do it, and I'm wondering if Sayid even killed Desmond to begin with.
That went down well.

The point of being afraid is so that you don't get pushed down wells.

Was there a splash when fLocke dropped the torch down the well?
