The four A class are still in use by V/Line on services to Sunbury, Bacchus Marsh and Geelong. The four MTH cars are currently in storage at Newport Workshops I believe.
ahh brings back memories. i remember when they painted them red and blue for the first time, my friends and i hated it at first (we were 7 at the time). my house used to back onto the track so i was woken up every once in a while with those sleeper laying machines.
Certainly is overkill in terms of power to tonnage ratio, though I believe the reason for using the A is to keep as tight a timetable as possible. As you can see in this vid, there are some lengthy grades on the line.
I'm an uneducated New south welshmen.... What happened to the stony point line?

@littlegldgti It's still operating, just with Sprinter DMUs instead of loco hauled, so it's lost a lot of it's interest!

The freight runs to the Long Island Steel siding, just north of Hastings. I'm fairly sure it would have been running ten years ago.

Very nice work, although isn't it a bit over kill an A class on 2 cars, it would be more suited to a P class or something.
