I remember when we climbed around on the ol' 610 when she was on static display for years at the Will Rogers complex in Ft. Worth. That was a long time ago.
@Tailterrier27 Thats bc the 'high-duck dandies' of our government won't spend a penny of their rediculously huge paychecks for the restoration of a piece of our history that could have been preserved in running order so that future generations would know what its like to see and hear that engine doing what it was built to do--rolling along the high iron!
The locomotive was highballing on this video made in 1977, for a video to be made in 1977, it's still a good one though, but that locomotive was really highballing.
@Engineer5344 The 2-10-4s were no little ones, thats for sure. These brutes could keep up with diesels even if they are less efficient--but the 'high-duck dandies' of the government won't spend a penny of their ridiculously huge paychecks to preserve and restore the engines that made our country strong! There's nothing like seeing a run of a restored engine only to meet a diesel powered freight that ends up being shamed by a steam engine.

A 2-10-4, eh? I'd like to see a Santa Fe 5000 2-10-4 top this! But I don't think they would need that, they have 4-8-4 #3751 for that job!

Up until the 1218 the 610 was the biggest steamer the Southern had used.
