  • One of the most talented, soulful beings that ever walked this earth!

  • 99.9.9

  • Clasdic

  • @blessmimi WHAT!!!!!!

  • Love you Lauryn God Blessed you big time!!!

  • when MTV VMA used to rock!

  • Wyclef & Pras, we understand that you're distraught and consumed by jealously due to your inability to reach Lauryn's level of talent and success, however; disliking her videos is a very, VERY immature thing to do... Not to mention down right rude!

  • @YouLaToya

Hahaha, you know you wrong for that

  • excuse moi? Comparing Lauryn to Beyonce, thats a real bad one......

  • God I love her.

  • I get chills when I see this performance...powerful! Love u lauryn!

  • Wow. She has on clothes and can still captivate an audience. I winder when female singers and rappers became glorified video girls? Music is in a sad state right now....smh

  • Her star quality is just big as Beyonce, Janet, and Mary!

  • @emmanuel11246 Yikes! Beyonce? Janet? Mary?! LMAO... They can't hold a candle to Lauryn's "Star Power"! No chronographed dances, no costumes, no lip syncing, no dramatic stage decor, Just her, some back up singers, a live band and a mic. Now thats stage presence

  • who does not love this upload ...????

  • THe TRUTH HERE

what a fucking voice girl. Nobody has so a hot voice like this.

    Hot style ya

  • This is my girl. I love her style and flow. Nothing overly choreographed, just L- Boogie doin her thang. I have this on tape, and this is one of the best performances of an award show; especially MTV, underneath MJ's 1995 performance of course, but definitely the best performance of the night!

  • Now hear this mixture

    Where hip hop meets scripture...........

She deep!!! Lauryn Hill for President!!

  • One of the best performances in a VMA's. She was an amazing performer but a way better composer.

  • yes this was HOT then and now.... Love Lauryn..... looking good in the back Pablo on base. Big ups to you both.

  • yeah right... Cee-lo's the male version of her. i put Lauryn in my top five favorite emcees EVER. it ain't even about being female... she rips. PERIOD.

  • @brettorrmusic ah nice similie LOVe me some Cee-Lo goodie mo outkast dungeon Fam basically everything everything southernplayalistic

  • @brettorrmusic Nicky Minaj, Lil Kim and 'em got N-O-T-H-I-N-G on Lauryn Hill! Best female MC E-V-E-R !!!

  • @brettorrmusic I think that goes the other way around since she preceded him by nearly a decade ;)

  • L boogie I love u! she my hero 4 sure!

  • This woman is a lyrical genius!

  • This woman is an ancient Abyssinian (Ethiopian) Candace (Queen) sent back by God to uplift and inspire all. She delivers messages of truth, wisdom, and peace through her musical form. They just don't make em like this anymore!!!

  • Lovin this comment, Brother. It absolutely sums up who she is, Hope she comes back. Hip Hop needs messengers like her more than ever.

  • @ThePharaoho what makes Lauryn Hill ethiopian?

  • @coffee2luv The reason I called her an Ethiopian Candace is because of her power, influence, respect for self and those around her, and her education and Queenly presence. Also her great beauty. Lauryn is so reminescent of those great Queens that came before her and she understands the ancient histories of power and greatness through consciousness and preservation: Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Menelik, Sheba, ect. She is the truth revealed.

  • @ThePharaoho i just wondered if that does a diservice to decendents of west africans. their stregnth and beauty im sure u mean is just as equal. she should be loved for her talent as it is and not projected into a people she is not, no? i adore her all the same.

  • @coffee2luv See that's the problem with black Americans. For some reason they like to believe they are not African, then why call yourselves African Americans? All blacks everywhere derive from Africa, the genetic dna code ismostly African. You cannot not try to be something that you are without question. Lauryn's musical vibes encompasses African American, and Caribbean influence which is derived from the root in Africa. Lauryn serves as a link in her musical compositions to all blacks.

  • @ThePharaoho Africa is a massive continent, not a all-encompassing country. American African decendents know the region on their ancestory. But since they cannot know the exact region i guess it makes sense to accept the whole continent, i guess.

  • @coffee2luv Yes, that's it, and why not? I mean...African or black Americans represent most of the continent anyway, all of the the west coast and central Africa. We come from many ethnic background and groups. When they bought our ancestors over here on those ships there were many ethnic groups: Wolof, Yoruba, Akan, Bakongolese, Asante, ect ect and they all intermixed and intermarried, well...created unions since slaves were considered inhuman chattel and had no souls according to whites.

  • @ThePharaoho perfect description

  • @hotfiire24 Thanks!

  • is funny how hip hop change the situation

  • those are the flyiest pants i have ever seen!!! damn, this was like over 10 years ago and i want to rock those pants!!!

  • I feel the same way!

  • EMPRESS L-Boogie!!!!

  • NO she doesnt that was a rumor...naw man dont say that!

  • not cool baby. not to mention untrue. once again, her words were misconstrued back then. to bring it up now would be a moot point. dig on the vibe that she's bringin' here. because i doubt if she'll ever truly be aboveground again. the music industry is out of control. real artists can't thrive in the midst of mediocrity. that's peace. later.

  • gudness...i jus have to laff at dat. i hope u dont think that.

  • sadly i was born in the 90s so i didnt get to see this stuff, man i wish i could have

  • Lauryn Hill is Incredible one of her finnest Perfomances!!!

  • Can MTV can ever return to the glory days of the 90s with performances like this?In my opinion music is very separated from the people now.We rely on the internet for songs and mixtapes everyday, its not like when we looked forward to watching TRL with guests like Lauryn Hill, JLo Diddy BB Boys Nsync, Christina Aguilera MC, Em,TLC..MTV must bring back music,if its done it will be amazingly accepted and there would be an uproar in the music generation which is so DESPERATLY needed! Leave opinions!

  • no shit. no one performs like this anymore. it's all so canned, but this? this is the real thing. too too rare. even when i saw it live ten years ago, after a lifetime in music, i'd never seen anyone that blindly bonded to the music. it just doesn't get higher than this.

  • It's funny how money changes the situation !!! here we go :)

  • Timeless.

  • She was KILLING IT in CAPITAL LETTERS....They dont do this anymore!

  • HOT Hip Hop!!

  • this is HOT

  • wow...she rocks ;]

  • does anyone know what year this was.

  • September 1999 MTV VMAs

  • I watched this live ans she knocked me out with these threads! Ive always loved this one and yrs later its still of the hook!

  • THIS! That is one of the hottest outfits ever rocked on an awards show!!

Lauryn's not only a musical genius but she's a style icon.

  • I read an article once on her where she said she'd never wear an "outfit" that deliberately matched. I so 'got' what she meant. Her style is so dope..so eclectic. I love the cut of the shirt...She's the Best! Beyonce ain't even got nothing on her...No comparison!

  • simply the best

  • she was a bit breathless is all... but she fucking rocks

  • This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen, by any artist. What "nerve", the way they move, the rhythm, the atmosphere, the mood. And this is a pretty new kind of music. Thanks, Lauryn!

  • what up L. we miss you...

  • she went in on that shit. man, she was dope as hell. You can't recreate that, we will never have another female that dope. Which is ironic because after her we have no choice but to keep lookin for the next Lauryn Hill. Her talent aside, she seemed real confident, almost regal. I think that's the biggest difference between her and today's female artist.

  • Love what you wrote above, jedagarner. I second this motion.

  • tHE BEST SONG EVER!

  • So much respect for her. Lauryn is and will always be the queen of hiphop.

  • LAURYN HILL: The High Priestess of Hip-Hop!!!

  • Love her locks, that top, and those pants...she's so dope! Eclectic in style and musical offerings. She can do no wrong.... even with those NewArk Ent. cats, it was hard for me to embrace their side of the story; and it sounded plausible az all out doors. I just love Ms. Hill...

  • what waz their side of the story

  • I don't know if ur old enough to remember that controversy back in '98. BET aired the producers that claimed to have assisted her on that classic solo album of hers'. One guy used the analogy: "It's like a lady asking you & ur friends to help her up the stairs w/her bags and she'll give you 50 cents to do so, then when u reach the top she turn to ur man and hand his a quarter. I'm just looking for our other quarter."

The man appeared honest and solid. But so does she... It's perplexing...

  • Queen of Hiphop and R&B

  • been looking for this performance forever! Thanks!!!

  • I know right! It seems like no one has this anywhere else on the internet.

  • the problem is that it's harder to put live performances up here now. I tried some other clips but it gets deleted. :-(

  • =( I want more live (old) lauryn hill.

  • same here

  • The best

  • its a shame there aint many bros or sis in that audience!

  • Was an awards show.

  • Look in the very front of the crowd. You know we had to rush the front when Lauryn hit the stage. I'd be right there if I had the chance to attend that event.

  • damn, it just got brutal in here! lauryn aint messin around!

  • OFF the HOOK

  • Great video!!!!

Please , if anybody if he may have this same video on a best quality intermingle contact me.

  • THE BEST EVER!

  • uh???? r u a grammar teacher?

    NO?

Oh, so you're an artist whos album has gone six times platinum huh?

    No!? what a shocker!!!

Lauryn Hill is A living legend and if you can't see that then i see no reason to try and convince you of it. But I will say that few to none of the people in todays music industry have the strength, enlightenment, and power of conviction of Lauryn Hill, If she hadn't pissed off the vatican she would probably be up for sainthood,J.K. ;) but her time has not passed yet

  • lool whose the vatican?

  • She got in Clef and Pras' ass wit Lost Ones yo. She got they asses bad. I remember watchin this performance. God I MISS LAURYN HILL!!!!!!

  • I remember this performance.I still love Lauryn no matter what

  • Essa Mulher bota pra descer tudo o que há de bom na alma de um ser vivente!
