Goddamn science centers..everytime i build them my research stops for some reason ...played like 3 days and the only fight ive seen was with some weird pink cloud lol
What a piece of crap game.. glad i didnt pay for it.
There is a long way to make this game better then SINS of Solar Empire Trinity which costs 15$ and costs this one 44,95$, but this one has potential of an titan!
jesus christ, we're going backwards. By 2012 I had expected master of orion 2 with combat like nexus the jupiter incident. Instead, we get... this... thing, that should be able to run on an iphone but instead "requires" windows 7? wtf?
I don't want to be rude, but this is a TERRIBLE walkthrough. Anybody who doesn't already understand the concepts will not be able to learn from this.
Try to focus on the things that are similar or different to other games. Introduce features in the order that players will use them.
Talk directly about mechanics: instead of saying "Command ships add command points," say "Command ships let you have more of your fleet in combat simultaneously. This is shown by Command points."
@Tryptic214 You need to think from the noob's point of view. He doesn't care about what he CAN do, he just wants to know what he NEEDS to do to get started. The first stage of the walkthrough should be a quick rundown of the races, followed by the first turn, then the first 5 turns, THEN you go into trade and combat.
Also it should be easy to reference: he should be able to skip trade altogether, then come back and easily find that part later when he decides to try it out. Use transitions.
The game is now playable. By christmas it will be fully stable. By the end of january it will have most if not all of its features and tech in. Then over the next 12 months, expect major refinements and improvements, and then an expansion, then further expansions over the following 18 months, plus free download content throughout, all with constant direct support from the production team. Sounds like good value to me.
For those bitching, your the very reason games like this are a dying breed.
@locutus12 Buying incomplete games and thereby supporting the continued release of broken unfinished pc games, is the reason games like this is a dying breed?
No... Lazy devs pushed by publishers is the reason these games are a dying breed. Us, the customers that bought a pig in a sack, are NOT to blame. Don't even go there.
@darkroxas25 It improves rather fast, there have been 1 to 2 patches each week, each of them fixes a ton of problems. As I read in the forums the game is now playable. When it is finished it will be a totally awesome game I think.
The overcomplicated fleet/mission system is huge disappointment since you have to this for every single fleet not matter if it just to relocate ship or to scout
specially considering that Sots complete had a intuitive fleet system
@landovers Don't worry, as of now you're lucky if you can reach 100 turns without being crippled by some kind of bug. Some weapons deal no damage, some features are completely missing and some games will just start crashing as soon as you hit next turn after some point, for no discernible reason.
Don't buy this game. Nobody should earn money for releasing a game in this state.
Since I haven't bothered going past the 4-5th round I have yet to try diplomacy so there might be issues there too, but these two first issues keep the game from being enjoyable in any way for me.
Oh, and the projected savings is completely wrong. I put it to like +20K, and suddenly I went 100K into debt the next turn without any explanation whatsoever. Woo.
Well this is a minor issue (although it's still really annoying). At worst you have to save before ending the turn just to check if your calculations are right. Having no idae what half the ship modules (or whatever they'er called. Camel, etc.) do ingame, though, that's a gamebreaker to me.
I have looked up what they do before on the forum (before the encyclopedia even worked. Don't get me started on how messy/lacking it is at the moment). I don't want to load it up/alt tab every time I want to check what they do (not to mention there's no detailed info, just a general idea). I'm not interested enough in SotS2 (in it's current completely broken state) to memorize what the different things do by name.
Importsant shit I still don't know that prevents me from even trying to play the game beyond the first turn:
No descriptions of the stuff you can put on the ship (wtf is a caravan? A camel? The fudge?)
How to properly manage admirals? For example if I have an admiral I want leading another fleet, do I have to slowly swap all the ships around? No more convenient way? Basically admiral interaction outside of the "create new fleet" menu.
Potentially cool game . Unfortunately so much is missing that you can in no way play a complete game. (Allot of tech is broken, diplomacy is completely nonfunctional, Combat is spotty, economy is working?, etc)
They have to develop more to even finish the game to a point where it is playable in any realistic way. (Not a normal thing to say about a "released" game.) though they are fixing things.
I do not recommend to buy, but to watch to see what happens with it . it MAY turn out good, or not.
@Tehnexie Yes Kerberos is the developer, but they get their funding and release dates from Paradox so you can't say that Kerberos is responsible. I'm sure Kerberos would have loved to take more time to finish the game but they apparently ran out of money and hit Paradox's deadline.
I'm not bitching about it btw. I preordered the game and I don't mind waiting for some patches. I'm sure the game will be awesome in a month or two.
Indeed... this is the sort of thing that should have been divided into smaller pieces and made available... before the game release! The problem is: it wasn't working like this two or three weeks ago... they keep polishing it, so it will eventually have great diplomatic options (at least I hope so), but it is really sad that such a promising tittle was released unfinished. I don't mind the micromanagement (Space Empires is much worse in this regard and I love it) but the game still needs fixing.
@Tehnexie Good, I was rather dissapointed when I tried to play it on day 1 and it didnt work much. I can wait a looong time for them to fx it now, however, because Skyrim.
Before you start a game of Sword of the Stars II you must first like long and complicated spreadsheets, bugs, patches, and missing game features.
Then click create new game.

In previous SoTS when you built ships the cost was immediately removed from your savings. Now they are removed as the ships are built or something.
I'd love to see building costs in projected costs as well...
