    Just a little more clarification/encouragement desired...

    so if your main object is floating in the water the velocity of the water respect to ground + its velocity in respct to the water is equal to its velocity in respect to the ground?

    If you do a search on google

    The end of the third chapter has a detailed explanation on this - and this video here explains it even more.
