All the benefits of the impressive Porsche engineering get used up because the nut(ter) behind the wheel feels so much safer that they compensate by going faster.
Risk compensation theory - it's been around a while but its no surprise that the dinosaurs on Top Gear haven't heard of it yet...
Instead of outlawing fast cars they should outlaw slow, old & dangerous cars like the ford anglia older cars have no ABS no, Crumple zones, Small tyres with less grip, and also are alot more dangerous to pedestrians.
@redlineroberts ..except I don't have a Ford Anglia! If I was going to get another sportscar I'd get a Caterham (again) - they stop/go/handle far better than a Porsche! Instead I have a single-seater with carbon fibre spaceframe, sequential 27 speed gearbox, big alloy wheels, with fat low profile tyres, all round disc brakes, air sprung suspension system, and zero emissions. It's also the most efficient form of transport known to man, gives a massive adrenalin rush and is safer for pedestrians..
What gets me is how they think they can measure thinking time. Under real circumstances the humans reaction can be speed up much faster through adrenlin. I was told today it takes 40 ft to stop at 20 (3 car lenghs) so I put it to the test on my bike and I managed to do it in 1 car lengh. I guess it is measured from the slowest possible reaction plus the slowest breaking machine too.
