@geekie404 Oh I see, you are speaking on behalf of all karate kind. You must be a real master if you can miss out the focal point of a kata and change the moves.
@karatesensei100 I think the kata as shown in the video is very well performed. He has great awareness, and great execution of techniques. It's not perfect, but no one is. However, I don't think he missed out the kiai because he thought it was optional. In the comments I replied quite harshly because I thought it was unbelievable that geekie404 considered himself a "master" and able to talk for upper level karate-ka.
@geekie404 I'm shocked, I've never heard of kiai being optional and I've never seen a high level karateka miss them out. Is this true for all Shito-Ryu ?
@nogek With respect, geekie, but at what level are you practicing? I'm a 6th dan and I have started with Shotokai, shotokan, kyokushin, shorin and now heijoshin. Silent kiai are quite the norm. You do not really live it out, but you 'internalize it' as loud Kiai are considered a bit of a 'show off' among higer grades. So unless is a comp. or a demo. kiai are better performed internally, as ur kime requires.hope this expl. is of help. keep practicing hard. The place is here and the time is now
@mrthebillman ho dear, one other smart original thinker...i suggest you practice for 40 years Karate DO not only Karate before you make any silly comment that only show (and make even more embarrasing) your ignorance. The only thing that needs cheese is your manners so to make you not so distasteful. You may want to go back to your youtube channel and 'concentrate' on your 'inspirational' videos of Marilyn Monroe... I can see where your real 'expertise' lays. Sayonara
@mrthebillman PS i did go back to your channel and the kata in your Older masters section is what Naihanchi WAS supposed to look 50 years ago...Everything evolves, you know? But obviously you are to busy making silly comments to notice. Karate Do is supposed to allow students to find THEIR OWN WAY, not to copy mindlessly becoming robots.
@karatesensei100 You can't 'evolve' if you could never do it right in the first place. Karate 'evolved' from kung fu, but I guess the monks weren't as good as you.
@mrthebillman Mate, you don't even know how evolution works. In evolution you start from something rough and primitive and than the character that works best for that subject will prevail and remain. If you 'get it right in the first place' than there is no need for evolution at all. That is why karate is very different from its beginning. now is time for you to go back to school and have a serious chat to Professor Plum as he might be able to give you the clue you obviously do not have. ciao
@karatesensei100 Naihanchi is over a thousand years old. IF you had gone to the bottom of my list 'old masters' you would have seen an episode from a TV show where they go to Okinawa TODAY, to Shuri, and you could see them doing it TODAY. How it's supposed to be done. Mate.
@karatesensei100 What have you got against Marilyn Monroe? At least my channel has something on it. Yours is just two crappy little vids. Maybe you should check out the 'karateish' section, that might be more to your liking! HA HA HA HA
@mrthebillman I have nothing against Marilyn, mate, I just cannot stand wankers.
Let's see your video of YOU executing a Kata, let's see how good the Master Critic really is. And since you call me illiterate, i 'm just not English mother tongue. But i'm sure that racist vilification of people of a different cultural background is quite OK for you. It appears to be the norm among self inflated gas balls like yourself. and...Professor Plum?, ha ha ha? What are you? 14?
Ahh finally someone out there doing it with the Motobu influence. No wasted motion just simple and direct in-fighting. Well above most of the Naihanchi Katas I've seen on youtube.
Also sum feel kata/hyung is useless I feel different, of course alot of wut ur taught u won't use in real encounters but it teaches muscle memory n technique, that's wut sparring is for, to eliminate the inefffective techniques!
@clinganc people who think kata is useless are clueless about kata..Kata is a way of practicing condensed street techniques..if you search Oyata Seminars on YT youll see what i mean..a punch in kata might be a joint lock or grab and punch done on the street ..In my mind true karate is the study of the deeper meaning of Kata not just the Kata
It's funny to c all the opinions on the right n wrong way to execute nihanchi chodan, as we call it in tang soo do, the basics are the same but we execute the hyung a lil different, n if u can't explain wut each technique is used for u shouldn't be teaching it!
Modern or traditional forms of Karate are way too stiff . If you want to see good effective Karate please stop looking at Kata with Kihon (basic) timing I know gents that can do this form in 2 to 3 motions... which relates to fighting much more than this . Also remember that Ryukyu Te was taught one on one it wasn't till the Japanease put their 3 cents in that Karate started looking like it does now . So there is no right right way of Japanese Karate ... there is only Okinawan !
all the arguing is hence why i went with jeet kune do. i can guarantee my instructor is more than capable of handing any of your elitist asses back to you, but, you know, he's too busy training qualified fighters for the ring and for life. kata is nice and all, but getting too tied up in the shit is where most TMA starts to suck. take it, the exaggerated movements, forget the stances in real kumite or sparring and take the essence of it and you might actually excel. otherwise, you stagnate.
This kata has a lot better spirit, core power & body structure than many overly polished competition performances. The head turns just in time/ realistically & the hands are strong enough not to be isotonically tensed throughout. It's typical for folks stuck in an intermediately advanced stage to mistake these things as beginners' mistakes. Remember, mastery means to make it natural to you, not stick desperately to the rules your teacher gave you to adjust you when you were a beginner.
This guy is miserable. That black belt has to be fake. His fingers are always open and he never turns his head first. It's like he is trying to make a few bucks on an instructional video. I earned a green belt in Okinawa Shurt-te, and I've seen 9 year olds do this kata better.
I can answer them, certainly. Just not to you. Take your hostility elsewhere, child. I'm entitled to freely educate anyone who listens too. If you are looking for answers to your proposed questions, I suggest you seek a trained professional, practice and master them yourself. Get off of youtube and lose your anger along the way.
While I admit he personalized this kata, I do not support it in an instructional sense considering his technique would make Nakamura weep.
we have both, tekki shodan (we usually call it naihanchi tekki) and we have naihanchi.
i take 'chitoryu', which I guess is supposed to be the same as his style, but he does things differently. It's close enough to not to matter I guess, but like you said, this one is the tekki, not the just naihanchi.
if what gojumaster said is true, that could explain things.
good kata so far the best dvd's i have seen on naihanchi are bushidoproductions naihanchi real karate street fighting it shows what fighting with kata is!!
I'm not sure if this is just a different style from what I learned, but arentcha supposed to switch hands somewhere from 0:20 to 0:30 so the action looks stronger? Is this JIKC?
