  • steel drums were invented when music was outlawed on trinidad and people would beat the tops of trash cans with a hammer and it would round out a bowl and they would have contests to see how many pitches they could get

  • what song is this?

I fell in love with calypso and steel band at Expo 1967 in Montreal (Esso Band). I'm white as snow but I go for this! No wonder my daughter is a ska-loving antiracist skinhead she heard reggae when she was in my belly LOL.

  • These are oil drums left over from war etc...The USA influenced the culture in a strange way

  • the steel pan or drum as some may call it is a musical instrument originating from the islands of Trindad and Tobago. It is a symbol of the caribbean and is here for all to enjoy.

  • Fantastic! Great job

  • Is it me or it sounds detuned

  • @TheBoxerHDZ Actually, neither. the wind's interfering with the mic recording this, and distorting the sound.

  • lets get together it will be all right

  • you are amazing i am in a middle school steel drum group

  • ncooh

  • Steel drums. <333

  • I FRICKIN LOVE THE SOUND OF STEEL DRUMS>:DDDD

  • Happy Birthday Bob! ... They have gone astray...

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks

There is one question I'd really love to ask

Is there a place for the hopeless sinner

Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs

One Love, One Heart, Let's get together and feel alright...

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel alright

Have pity on those whose chances get thinner

For there's no hiding place from the Father of Creation!

  • Not really my parents meant to have me, and if I'm an accident your a fucking mis-carriage!!

  • you know, it defeats the purpose of commenting if all you do is fight. so let me get this straight, a band with STEEL DRUMS is playing BOB MARLEY and.... you're arguing. I for one thought it was fantastic.

  • so kool

  • Steel pan! It's called steel pan!

  • so cool

  • yeah, each drum is handmade, but pan crafters spend several months crafting a single instrument. i wouldn't pay thousands of dollars to a crafter for a less-than-perfect pitched drum. sorry. that said, some of these drums probably just need to be retuned.

  • Its there place for the HOPELESS SINNER...I love it!!1luv

  • ONE LOVE !!!!

  • woooow... me encantan estos instrumentos, creo que eso que dicen de que no es un sonido perfecto es lo que le da la escencia casera...

  • just the fact that those things are out of tune is cool about this video!!

  • Our school steel pans are tuned wayyy better than these...

  • @CompsciWiz It really annoys me when people pass negative comments. Golden Rule in Pan; NEVER criticise others. Keep playing guys and ONE LOVE!

  • screw all you punks who say stuff about the tuning.steel drums are awesome.

  • i like this song

  • ONE LOVE!!!

  • And the drums strumming on the off-beats are hitting the pans waaayyyyy too hard

  • @Fox4702 Does the sheet music say not too hit them accented? or is it just too hard for your taste?

  • wats the name of the band? and wtf the white ppl doin at the end?

i read the comments and all i see is panists quarelling with ppl who kno nothing about pan. why can't we jus listen to the music?

ps. dem pans coulda get a lil tuning but the music is not so off.

  • @sedsa097 lol i like that "wtf the white ppl doin at the end", nice one

  • which part of jamaica are they from

  • we white people spend money on the stupidest shit, when we're on vacation

  • @Skidern

    u do .... dickhead.

  • its a windy day huh

  • lol look at all the white tourists in a conga line hahaha

  • lol

  • Yes, such a reminder that the typical white(american mostly) tourist tends to be clueless: the world does not revolve around them and their failure to "get it" that 89% of the people on this planet can never take a vacation. Tourists like this are not travelers, they are vacationers. Anyone who disagree should simply spend a week working at a big hotel in a tropical place. You'll see the stereotypical tourist all day & night. Oh, and most tip poorly and dress even worse!

  • @dipsaucerose yes with the singing waiters with their flaming baked alaskas

  • Superbbb.. 3 little birds.. :D

  • haha its one love btw :L

  • yeah it's confused me.. :D LOL

  • When I was younger back in school, our music room had a bunch of steel drums. Kind of difficult to play, but so much fun!

  • man i can imagine sitting on a beach listening to this stuff... paradise :D

  • i na give a fuck i na give a dam i could listen to this all day long

  • thats not a nice thing to say

  • no lets see you play a steel drum or can you even read music or remember it. dont say mean stuff or dont speak at all

  • some of u making bad commenting about this, and i bet u people who make bad comment can't even play one i live here in the u.s.a but i born jamaican, and those steel drumms made by hand, and any body in dis world who can great stuff with them hands, they or real greaters and one love to dat.

  • i play at my school and your rite this gets pretty intense!

  • wa dis or meh hARD HEARING LMAO

  • Beautiful instruments!

  • badass

  • love it

  • o lard i agree these pans are so not in tuneee at alll its actually grating my ears

  • I like it any way .nice job friends ! ive had a few tins of red stripe, so it sounds dead in tune to me .

  • TO EVERYONE COMMENTING ON THE TUNING: each pan is hand made, how do you expect each to sound perfect????

  • @fightforthecapitol it sounds perfect to me

  • @fightforthecapitol you can still get them tuned? lol, many people tune them, usuallly with hammers

  • @fightforthecapitol Are they hand-made by tone deaf people?

  • @acr08807 To answer your question- no. They are crafted using hammers and other hand operated tools. Most instruments these days are manufactured with precision tooling. And then they go through a vigorous fine-tuning processes using scientific equipment. Thats why you get a very accurate sound. These drums aren’t finetuned due to the nature of the material and construction process; thus creating the change in tone from drum-to-drum. Get it now?

  • @speaker00001 I tune my guitar by hand, and I play in tune. Get it now?

  • @acr08807 he retard. Maybe if you had money and could travel you would know that this is the sound of Jamaica. I have been 18 times. This is MUSIC. You probably should get the drumstick out of you asshole and not comment you cocksucker!

  • @iveyballer13 Just a piece of personal advice, if you isay "he retaird" instead of "is a retard," it makes you look like the retard. And I'm sorry for the Jamaicans if their MUSIC is all out of tune.

  • @acr08807 steelpan=trinidad and tobago, not jamaica

  • @suspendedstasis Bob Marley = Jamaica, not Trinidad and Tobago.

  • @acr08807 bob marley + steel pan = jamaica + trinidad and tobago

  • @Boeserwolf93 Can't we all just hit a bong? Or get along? Pass da' bong.

  • @acr08807 aye dumbass you spelt retard wrong. Get a fucking life

  • @iveyballer13 You are quite possibly the stupidest commenter on youtube, and that is saying a lot. If I'm going to get a life, it's not going to be because some moronic pussy like you told me to.

  • @acr08807 your adopted!!!

  • @iveyballer13 Which would mean his parents care enough about him to actually have him as a child. You're an accident, ivey.

  • @iveyballer13 Google spelt and you will find that it is a grain.

  • @fightforthecapitol Also - this is LIVE! And yes, real people can and do make mistakes! Beats me why people bother to leave negative comments. If they don't like it, they don't have to listen.......

  • @fightforthecapitol Sadly at least one of the drums is out of tune - and it doesn't matter if they are hand made or not (that's like saying a hand made guitar or violin can't be tuned), they can still be tuned quite accurately.

  • @fightforthecapitol they may be handmade but it takes hours of work to make each one perfect. they just require tuning everynow and then which these have obviously not been brought in to have done.

  • @fightforthecapitol Ever heard about hand made music instrument named gamelan?

  • They are steel drum bands..that is how they are s'posed to sound???? Idiots.

  • for real the comments on jamaica are rhattid stupid its just damn steel drums shutup

  • i dont think so nis something i need to look for?

  • jamaicans better stick to reggae music because i don't think the steel pan thing is for them!

someone help these guys get their instruments tuned....PLEASE!

  • these dudes sound like they are playing on 1950's ping pong pans!

can we say OUT OF TUNE?!?!?!?

    HAHAHA!

i guess there are no good tuners in Jamaica...

but at least they have some good 420! i bet whoever tuned them last was smoking a lot of that before he tuned them!

either that or the last tuner to tune them was SOBER and did a shitty job...

OR the last tuner to tune them did a GREAT job and these fools just havent gotten their pans tuned in 20 years!

  • those kids r talented

  • as steel drum player my self the person playing in the background was playing to hard and the front line players were not playing hard enough for the melody to go through mejestically.

  • 2:49

    so funny!

  • I'm dreaming about the Caribbean right knooow! *sigh* Beautiful music. *-*

  • @AlicesFanpire Yes, dream of the Caribbean, but keep in mind that the steel pan is from the West Indies/Lesser Antilles, not the Caribbean.

  • @HunterMann Oh! I didn't know that! Well, it's cool no matter where it comes from. :)

  • There's a fascinating history to music of this region and the Caribbean, including calypso, mento, ska, rock-steady, reggae, dub, toasting, dance hall, merengue, tropical/cumbia, and reggaeton. I started collecting calpypso & steel drum records back in 1975.

  • @HunterMann: the West Indies and both Greater and Lesser Antilles are located within the Caribbean Sea, thus the Caribbean area. Check out a map, mon!

  • Seen!

  • @fooloof For the people talking about this, the steel drum originated in trinidad, which is off the coast of venezuela

  • @Fox4702: I know this. My reply was to Hunterman (see above), who seems to be unaware of the fact that the Greater and Lesser Antilles are in the Caribbean.

  • one love is the best song from bob

  • What kind of drums are these?

  • pan drums or steel drums.

  • wrong with both it is STEEL PAN

  • i love jamaica just cuz of the music that comes out of it. gives off a nice, tropical feeling which is something i like being from buffalo.

  • problem is steel pans are from trinidad and tobago not jamaica. important to know this. but glad you like

  • this sound was invented n trinidad and tobago just to let u kno

  • the holiday makers had to ruin it at the end lol

  • the steel drums sound nice and smooth

  • One Love?

  • Yeahhh One Love played on "Shell Oil Drum`s" ;o)

  • Their not really Jamacan their from Trinada how ever you spell it

  • It is TRINIDADIAN or should we say TRINBAGONIAN

  • Tune your pans!

  • lmfoa how the cock do you tune a pan?

  • With a set of hammers, an electronic strobotuner, ears, and craftsmanship. Pans need retuned on a regular basis - the metal bends slightly through continued playing, and needs to be re-bent back into tune. I tune mine about once a year. Google pan tuning for about a second and you'll find plenty of info

  • lmfao oh.

  • You can't really. You would have to send your pan to the company that you bought it from. Everytime it goes out of tune, you have to send it back to the maker. It's a real pain.

  • you just hammer it more on whichever side

  • where in jamaica was this ?

  • Yeah man sweet sweet steel pan music very soothing and perfect to dance to with someone and feel alright.

  • this is amazingg, so calming

  • cool version :)

  • greeeeeat!!! luv

  • Yea man. Dat es de way it suposd 2 b ;D

  • Lets get together and feel alright !!

  • IRIE...sweet steel drum

  • GREAT!

Lets get toghether and feel alright ;)

  • goosebumps:)

  • I LOVE STEEL DRUMS

  • i think this is better than the actual song

  • Now I feel alright!!

  • every little ting is gonna be alrite

  • Are you idiot?

  • i always thought tht those were some form of wind instrament not the steel drums

  • I did too. It really surprised me when I found out they were drums

  • ONE LOVE!!!!

    great song

  • Very Interesting.

  • Wow i love the old ladies at the end
