Always have wished that Gio Ponti was able to get 12 furlongs without being so vulnerable to defeat at that distance. He's pretty much been the flag bearer for American Turf racing in 2009 and 2010. Although Paddy O' Prado has had a pretty decent season on the turf as well in 2010. But both struggle to get 12 furlongs. Which make America's two best on the turf basically ineffective in the Breeders Cup Turf against the European horses.
i totally agree, I dont think Einstein finished ahead of gio except maybe in gio's first race this year but i doubt it, he ran amazing in the breeders and just got beat by a legend.
Not only should Gio Ponti win the eclipse award for best male turf horse, but he should also win the eclipse for best male older horse as well. With all the Graded Stakes win's he had this year, plus an amazing 2nd place finish in the Breeders Cup Classic, I think he edges out Einstein. IMO
Right now probably the best turf male in the U.S. but to me he was more impressive when he won the Manhattan Handicap. Clement stable always has amazing turf horses , hope he goes in the Breeders
