  • PINO RIPS IT HERE!

  • This is not recorded in Ulm, no never, Ulm was open air, this recording is made in a hall, whereever it is, but in spite of that it sounds fucking great

  • Whoever is on bass did a helluva job.

  • thank you so much for posting! i am so in awe every time i listen to this powerful rendition!

  • One of the better live gigs

  • Best song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • super waaaaaaaaaaa

  • f**king great, nice prominant bass sound as well. Quadrophinia is a work of genius. Daltrys voice sounds great

  • rabitts piano is great here.

  • fucking jaw droppingly awesome!

  • so he is 68 now then ?

  • @gazzaboy2531977

    yessir

  • Who's the drummer for them now ?

  • Zak Starkey

  • Cool !!! Thanks.

  • @TheKorot Danks !!!!!!

  • This song is nothing like it was years ago. This is just horrible singing. This guy needs to stop trying. He does not have it anymore.

  • @henriejoba You obviously know very little about singing, because the singing on this is just fantastic

  • 2:52 - 2:55 WOW, SUCH PASSION.

  • the pianist looks like pete

  • i was there

  • Maybe not the best arrangement but definitely one on the most beautiful songs period.

  • Something about that guitar is getting on my nerves.

  • Pino's bass playing in this version is really strong.

  • Shut up. They may not have the same spirit, but they are still a good band.

  • Tommy can you hear me ? Tommy can you feel me ? Tommy will you shut up !!!!!!

  • @Tom6093

That's impossible, for he can't talk.

  • @dankmon1992 Yeah, But I always thought , that song was annoying. I'm sure as Tommy grew, he felt that way inside.

  • @Tom6093 lol i get what you mean.

  • the BEST band EVER!!!

  • They make me cry....

  • Yes this is definitely Madrid 7/27/06.

  • This was recorded in Spain. Not Germany

  • Roger has the best rock voice and best ass in rock and roll history!

  • Still a catharsis. Thank you for posting this video, Im still waiting for them in Chile

  • still a great voice

    really nice song!

  • So emotional. Thanks Who

  • The fire is still there. love it

  • Def one of my all time fav WHO songs!!

  • Why do you need a two paragraph explanation of why The Who is awesome, nobody actually reads it all, here it goes; THE WHO FUCKING ROCKS

  • lol

    i'll drink to that

    u r 100% correct

    long live THE WHO!!!

  • The Opening piano of this version is so beautiful = )

best song from the who, from the best album of all time (Y)

  • 64 years old and still has a voice that after hearing, makes you feel as if you've been hit by a fuckin' train. And he's still built like one as well.

    Unbelieveable.

  • amen!

  • @Hennersbass i'm pretty sure he's 62 here. but still quite impressive.

  • Damn, Roger's still got it! Awesome.

  • the guy singing in back is pete brother.... he's no pete.

  • Why is everyone moaning about Daltrey? He's the best part of this rather workmanlike performance of the song. Townshend making mistakes around the three minute mark and making the guitar solos too technical completely ruins the feel of the song. The guy doing the acoustic guitar and backing vocals should stop singing. He's off-key, not Daltrey. Rog can carry the song on his own, and he does here.

  • Eh, I kinda have to disagree a little with such scathing criticism. I think Pete was just trying a few new things; they didn't work, and you don't see them in any of the later performances, so I think he figured that it was better to just work with the subdued musicality of the piece. Can't help getting into a groove with the guitar work, I know how that works all too well, heh.

  • you want a 'robotic' treatment every time?

You think everything should sound EXACTLY the same each night?

The JOY of seeing a band LIVE is that they do things a little differently each night and ALWAYS for the better!! (In My Opinion).

  • No-one said anything about getting the same thing on stage as they hear on the record, exactly the same. You're assuming that's what people think, but in my case at least it certainly isn't.

I think a band doing things differently live is a great thing - if it works, and if it isn't the result of some terrible mistake.

The hardest thing is getting the right balance - change it too much and you lose the original motive, motif and groove. Too little and it's too much like the original record.

  • Pete Townshend playing guitar in this verison cause i can't tell

  • nvm i found him sorry fro my stupid question

  • One of my favorite Who tunes. Poetry. In this performance, Pete's really in the zone. That guitar - it sings, it cries, it's beautiful.

  • Roger once said that he'd go for a note even if he knew he couldn't hit it. That, my friends, is the true meaning of rock and roll, just giving the song every bit you could possibly give it. For those of you who say Roger's out of tune, I say the intensity that he gives this song more than makes up for it. For those who say EV is better, well, that's you opinion, but imo, there's no way. LLR-LLTW

  • Impresionante The Who,depues de mas de 40 años siguen con esa fuerza...deci q falta John Y kEITH SI no serian la potencia mundial!...discaso Quadrophenia.

  • Theres no way Eddie Vedder could match Roger Daltrey. Vedder himeself could tell you that

  • sorry.

... there is no question about IT, Pearl Jam actually...

was what I was trying to say^^

  • ypur just to ypumg to compare the who were on their time like the pearl jam of ours so they canot be compared theyr both unique on its own way

  • nooo way i like pearl jam alot and i have to say the who killed it it will never be done as well its so intense and soulful sorry dude

  • i'm not really a fan of The Who, but i respect the hell out of them for everything they've done and no one can deny their legacy. i for one prefer the Pearl Jam version, but the original is great and this is a good video. i just wanted to respond to the stubborn old Who fans' comments... and i'm just comparing studio versions of the song from both bands. live performances are always different, too many variables to really judge, you just gotta enjoy

  • 3, whoever said Eddie can't hold the notes long enough is out of their mind. Roger doesn't sustain the high note even on the studio version. Eddie, on the other hand, kills it. Eddie's voice is much more powerful on this song, and more moving.

  • Are you listening to the same studio version? Rogers voice is perfect and legendary through the whole quadrophenia album, I like Eddie Vedder and he is a good singer but he could never match Roger in his prime. I would like to see him sing some of the other songs on quadrophenia, i dont think people realize how high some of those songs are sung because Roger sings them almost effortlessly.

  • i agree, other songs had him singing well even higher. and when he would scream it was really powerful and like nothing else i've heard from that time. but, on this song, he didn't put much power into his performance, and when he did it was only for a second and then he'd bring the note down. Eddie sustains beautiful vocal power at the top of the note. it's just a more moving vocal performance to me.

  • Are you talking about this performance or the studio version? I dont really like this too much and Eddie sings it better than Roger does here, but hes like 60 here lol.

  • ok :) usually when it comes to judging people who are this talented it comes down to personnel preference I prefer Roger you prefer Eddie, but at least we can both see they are both talented.

  • 2, yes, Roger goes out of key here and there in the vid, a lot actually. perfectly common of a rock vocalist, don't worry about it. Vedder, as far as i can tell, doesn't do it as much, but that's just because he's younger.

  • 1, it's not that hard a song to sing, it's just a matter of range. Pearl Jam tuned down half a step for their version. probably just their prefered tuning, it's not likely they did it for Eddie's voice, because after all it's only half a note difference.

  • That was UTTERLY FANTASTIC...STUNNING !

  • Love Pete, but what´s up with all the guitar wanking now?

  • absolutely fuckin fanfastic

  • tremendous !

  • I think Roger's voice has held up a lot better than Robert Plant's voice.

  • Maaan, Roger's voice is still good. Different from the records, but he's picked up all these fucking nuances, really emotional.

lawl, but I think Pete's guitar playing got kind of wanky...

  • I'm not the biggest Who fan, but this is spectacular.

  • Beautiful! Thanks!

  • awsomee

    roger will always be roger

and pete will always be pete

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEE Reign O'er Me

  • How many of you went like this, "Freddie WHO???" God, I hope not! LOL!

  • Whoever says Roger is out of tune here must be deaf.

  • Roger still sounds superb on this one.

  • Why does it have to be The Who vs Pearl Jam? They really like each other and both bands kick ass! Eddie would be tha last person to claim he does it better that Roger (even though I think Ed's voice is stronger)

  • absolutely agree

  • Ann Wilson of Heart rips this song a new a**hole.

  • The Who owns Pearl Jam. They can play it better in their 60's then Pearl Jam can in their prime. The Who in Boston last fall ROCKED!

  • it's kinda hard to hear roger so out of tune....

  • Roger is not out of tune

  • pearl jam does it better? Wow , whoever said that...Please....

  • eddie is god nothing else and you're a fuckin' bitch mother

  • pearl jam doesn't do it better, this song is nearly impossible to sing.the only other that couldv'e done it is freddie mercury

  • Ann Wilson of HEART kick ASS on this song!! She just nails it!!! Gives you chills to see her perform it live!!

  • Eddie es mejor y punto

  • Eddie Vedder lo borda mas coño!! es el amo!

  • speak english

  • this song is nearly impossible to sing perfectly.but this is the only man to ever do it,and he did it at 62 and can do it now at 63

  • Eddie from Pearl jam does it better. And perfect.

  • no he doesn't.eddie isn't better at this song, and he can't do it perfect because eddie can't keep the notes long enough and doesn't have enough range in his voice

  • Vedder makes it sound like a fucking funeral tune. The

Pearl Jam cover totally missed the point of the song.

  • i like the original version of this song the best !! but it still is good

  • who's on piano

  • John 'Rabbit' Bundrick.

  • I agree that the original version of this song is the best. Though, i think pearl jam's version is way better than i expected. Vedder deffiently blew out his vocal chords and McCreedy's guitar playing sounds great.

  • Roger and Pete are really pushing each other to great heights. The last piece of true Who chemistry we can treasure.

  • Daltrey still has about 3 octaves, incredible

  • This man was 62 when he sung this, damn what a voice!

  • Too right. Daltrey is the king.

I tell you something, Robert Plant is 59 this year, and the way he's going he'll never be this good at 62

  • Kicks the Pearl Jam version's ass up down and all around.

  • Nurse, he's out of bed again! The Pearl Jam version is utter butchery; ersatz in this case can never be as good as the real thing

  • I was in ulm. it's a pity that they didn't play this song, I love it

  • Cool...Good to know they still sound good ;) I'm seeing them in about 1 week.

  • Roger sounds magnificent.

  • Oops! My mistake- this was Madrid then?

  • Ulm was outdoor - Münsterplatz !!

  • Pete was wearing a white Tshirt in Ulm. A nice clip anyway!

  • This is not the Ulm concert!

  • Right ! This is not the Ulm concert (I was there !). Anyway, it's a great song from a GREAT BAND !!!

  • marvelous!! i was at the madrid show. great song!!!

    long live the who!

  • Thanks for the upload, prob. same set/songs (?)

they'll play.I'm going to see them 3/1 in San Diego, CA...The WHO ROCK!
