I work at a retirement home and the residents like listening to music while they eat, so i was searching on the radio for a station they would enjoy and found an easy listening station. Anyway, the station plays this song a few times a day.
True story, Jean Denning and his wife wrote this song as a joke because they thought the teen tragic songs were getting rediculous. They thought it was too corny and would never be taken serious. They got Mark Denning to sing the lead for a recording. The next day, Mark took it to a producer to share the joke only for the producer to love the song and sign it.
@sniperwolf7 that is not true i have pics of this man in my great grandmothers house it is about my great aunt she passed away when she was 16 years old killed in a car crash on a bridge with her boyfriend class ring on that was twisted on her finger. you don't know what you are talking about. He sat at my great grandmothers table and wrote this song.
@nicole7901 he took it to his two sisters and they changed the wording to railroad track. My aunt was sitting on her boyfriends lap and she went thru the windshield it was a head on collision. Please don't talk about something you know nothing about. This was my family. Mark was apart of our family for a very long time. My great grandmother used to play this song and just cry and tell how mark wrote it and show me pics of him sitting at her table. Get your facts straight....
@nicole7901 dont ever talk about someones family when you don't know what family member might be watching. Remember that. I will be watching this page more closely now. I don't want the reason for song trashed. When it was my family. Mark was our family. So don't trash someones family when you nothing about it.
Found out he left us when I visited this post just now. When this song came out I was in grade school. My wife and I were there in 1975 when he performed in the lounge of the Movie Manor Motel in Monte Vista, CO. His voice was so clear and high, he sounded angelig himself. The audience requested this song several times. Even the staff stopped moving and listened the this man sing this song. What a privilege that was. God Speed, Mark Dinning.
sad song and everything. I liked it a lot as a kid (it was already an oldie), but if you stop and think about the lyrics.....His girlfriend was an idiot. What kind of stupid twit runs into a car that's about to get creamed by a train to get her ring....and why wasn't she wearing it. Hmmm.
i just heard this song earlier today on the radio, I was with my Grandma and she got quiet and started to cry, she said when this song came out she was 14 about to be 15 and it always reminds her of her childhood friend that really was hit by a train and died =( it is a nice song though so very sad...
Is Mark Dining still with us or is he in Rock 'N Roll heaven now?? It's hard to believe this song was banned in many venues due to it's so-called "morbid lyrics"!!
Thank you so much for posting. I used to sit on the floor in my room and listen to this 45 over and over on my hi-fi in 1960 or 61 at around age 6. I never knew what Mark Dinning looked liked and now I do. What a thrill. Never have stopped loving this special song and performance.
this song was banned some time after it was released, board said the words were unsuitable for young ppl. that was then, the 60's, nowa days you hear shity music and the videos could pass as softcore porn but you dont see those songs banned do ya
@JenHOOKAH BIG thumbs up to your comment. Another song deemed too morbid was Gloomy Sunday". It was released during WWII I think and from what I remember reading it had to have extra lyrics added just so that people didn't consider it as a 'suicide' song.
Ther was a tv show to this song i mean the beginning of the Song but i cant find it anymore i think it was with one of the stars out of beverly hills brandon
I have been looking for this song, on and off since I was around 11 years old, (9 years ago). My mother used to play a cassette with 1950s and 1960s songs including this song, roses are red (my love), earth angel, smoke gets in your eyes and other GREAT songs. Growing up, we would listen to the cassette whenever we were in the car. When my mom sold the car, the cassette was left behind and I had to rely on memory of words or themes to find these songs. This is such a gift for me. THANK YOU!

hey guys this song was in a compilation ALONG with lipstick on your collar, only you, green green grass of home, king of the road and other stuff. can someone tell me what the album's called?
Teen Usama Teen Usama Teen Angel oooo That faithfull night in Abbotabad The Crusaders came while you were in the sack The the Navy Seals broke in and shot you in the back Teen Usama can you hear me? Teen Usama can see me? Are you somewhere up above And is Allah still you're only love? What was it you were looking for? When they took your life that night They said they found the Holy Qu'ran clutched in you fingers tight
I don't know if was pre-teen puberty, living in Cleveland with no sunshine or the first signs of clinical depression but I don't think I've ever cried so much as I did listening to this song every time they played it on the radio. I had that transistor to my ear waiting to hear it again.
when I was in school I a friend named Angela . Very beautiful friend, she had met a guy that she was so crazy about. One summer I heard on the radio and on the news a girl and her boyfriend were burned to death in a car wreck. I just remember crying so hard about it. She was so bubbly and happy that day at school went she talked about him. It's been 35 years ago, but I still think about her when I hear this song.
I'm 15, but this song is such a great GREAT song. I applaud Mark Dinning for making such a heartfelt song. Its a sad, but beautiful song. Thank you @tabbap for posting this. I also applaud you. •-•

@painkiller2102 You are so right and I totally agree. I grew up on this music and it never grows old! This is still a beautiful song, of teen love. Has real meaning even though its a sad song. Mark had a great talent!
Im 16 and I love this song. I used to listen to it with my Grandfather before he passes away last week. He had a recording of it from when it came out on vinyl. Its the last thing I have from him. Everytime I hear this song, I start to cry now
Such wonderful music. I was born in 89 and absolutely love this type of music. I've been listening to it ever since I was little with my Grandmother. It's so powerful and passionate. It has real meaning to it unlike the music that it produced today, such a shame that this music has faded away.
Thats true! i´m already sad that this kind of sound is token by techno and Rap:) So, thats live ;). But i´m with you, so let the "oldies" grown up,... cause, every sound´s coming back,... u know ;) ?
Im probably one of the youngest ppl to watch this video but i love this song. I used to listen to it in my papaws 1975 pontica Grandville convertable before he passed away. I love this song i lve that car. RIP Papaw!!!!! I miss you so much. I m 19 by the way
The video is a clip from 1960, probably from American Bandstand or Dick Clark's Saturday Night Show, but the vocal is from a later re-recording (just sounds just as good and sad as the original).
Hard to believe that after such a great song, he never had another hit.
This is a great song. Thanks for sharing it with us. I never saw this before today and it reminded me of my older brother R.I.P. who loved this song. You made me think of him and for that I thank you too.
This song, along with Last Kiss, are probably the goddamn saddest songs of the early Rock n' Roll era. When he sings "they buried you today", my lips quiver like a child who just got told his dog got hit by a car. So awesomely SAD!
my 6th grade teacher used to play us old twilight zone episodes and old songs. i fell in love with this song and always asked him to play it. 6 years later it is still one of my favorites. im pretty sure it will remain one untill i die.
I know that I'm only 16, but I love this song. I love hanging out with my grandmother, and she loves playing the oldies. This one happened to be playing when I was there, and I realized that the oldies are great! Thanks Gram!! :)
I love this song but for a 40 year old man to be singing it it just loses its romance somehow...but then you think about it and realize you can still be in love with your highschool sweet heart at any age.
My grandparents wrote this. :] It's amazing to see now. We sing it at every family gathering for my Grandma Jean and she loves it. Thank you for posting this.
i remember when this song came out.it was a big hit.eventualy it was banned ,because of the words..them days the census board were a load of idiots.i am now 71 and i havnt heard that since about 1970, when i had an accident and the record got broken.thank you for bringing this song back to life.
I remember listening to this the summer after 6th grade (early 80s), when we found out a classmate had died in a 3-wheeler accident. We somehow came across it on one of our parents' old 8-tracks! We cried our eyes out, and it still brings tears to my eyes! RIP Arnie!
I am 28 now and I remember I was maybe 7 no more I was probley younger then that. But my mom had a record player and it had this song on one side and I think it was the "Tallahasse Bridge" song I think... But Teen Angel was the first song I ever learned. I always thought Richie Valens sung it but now I am glad to find it on here ty for the memories.
a few weeks after this song came out,it was banned .they said it was because of the words i was lucky i bought the record before it was banned .a brilliant song
I am 63 and as I was watching Mark Dinning sing Teen Angel, I sang along with him word for word. Funny how you never forget the songs you loved when you were sweet 16.
I love this song, my Daddy used to sing this to my brother and I. When we would take family vacations we would a harmonize to this one and alot more. OOOHH!!!!! the memories
My dad used to sing this song to me and it would make me cry.

weemadjock 1 year ago

This does not appear to be a lip synch. Is this really live? It does not sound like the release on 45rpm.
