  • are members of the ADG part of the army or air force?

  • Them PTI's... Gotta love them.

  • Do ADG's still wear the blue beret or was it taken away like in the Army?

  • @neilious01 ADG's still wear the beret.

  • Wonder if they ever get to do coops with infantry. Otherwise it might get boring.

  • cant wait... doing my year 12 specifically for this :D

  • What are people's thoughts about joining with a minor back problem? It isn't a major issue but it can very rarely cause discomfort if doing strenuous activities.

  • @Schredder222 15km with 40kg on your back. thats enough to make any small back problem a big one.

  • all this Fighting over which service is better my brother is RAAC armored corps and has just returned from afganistan where there was a flight of ADGS providing Infantry support along side with RA inf grunts and they both performed just as well as each other if any thing the ADGS where more use full due to there understanding of close Air support.

  • @maccabatty26 thats what JTAC's and JFO's are for

  • got my YOU session soon, i really want to be an adgie just hope i can get fit in time

  • Ive meet a lot of RAAF personel at in my career with the USAF. I have to say of our country's allies french canadian british german the list goes on.... the aussies are the best. They will have our backs were ever we are including the desert. Ive worked and fought along side them. ive also drank drank them. I wish to visit your country one day and maybe meet up with some of your fine countrymen Ive met over the years while im there. I am truly honored to work with your county.

  • RAinf do their jobs

ADG's do theirs thats all there is to it

they are both highly trained professionals

  • Yes, I was up to the Challenge ... back in 1973!

  • Why does RAinf hate AGDies? sounds like a whole lot of sooking, ADGies do a different job to army rifleman so whats the problem..Do you own job and stop crying about every other job..So i take it that some army blokes would rather no one protecting the aircraft while there in it sitting on the runway,Thats real smart!! and they let you carry a gun, to many rambo's out their..sounds like alot of RAinf are unhappy maybe you should of went for ADG instead of getting on here sooking and crying...

  • @jtr183 infantry doesn't sook over these guys I'm working in infantry and some of the infantry would rather be these guys, infantry does say shit about them but they wouldn't say harsh shit online they will only say it personally and forget that they said it and move on they wouldn't bother logging into YouTube and go through all the trouble just to say a few words the only people that complains about these guys are infantry wannabes.

  • They step up at 06:30 and train 3 days a week! Hardcore blokes these ones...well, not quite as much as plenty of CBD workers...

  • Rainf considers adgies a huge joke lol

  • what was the point of that exercise??

*slams giant tire with a wooden stick*

  • I'm thinking of joining Airbase Protection in the RAAF reserve, could you tell me what this role is like?

  • An ADG CPL @ open day amberley reckons the squadron is vying to get the M4A1 rifles and ditch the F88. One of the Army officers told them "not to hold their breath...you guys dont do anything that special" lol

  • Join RAInf. All you'll get from Air Force (as an ADG) is tall stories about 'deployment a/b/c etc being signed off' but never actually happening. It's a waste of time. Work harder than every other RAAFie for less money and zero satisfaction or recognition.

  • On the call, when the call goes out

  • can someone tell me if i joined as a reservist ADG will i be sent overseas? or does it work like infantry reservists?

  • Very good video, shows really how finely tuned our small army is, but very effective and dedicated individuals indeed.

  • this is relevant to my interests

  • Great Video! Very informative and tells you alot. I would love to be a ADG.

  • anyone know if these guys are involved in much combat may seem like a silly question but none the less would like to know? are they ever deployed into any combat situations? cheers

  • @s9061991 yes they are the 1st ones off the helicopter to secure the area and set up a defensive so its safe enough for everyone else and they are the last ones on to make sure everyone gets on safely. someone correct me if im wrong but thats what i was told.

  • Were these field activities at Purga?

  • Right lets get one thing clear all the kids that think Infantry and ADG are even similar you are dead wrong and to think its stepping stone to the SAS, well that absurd! and one person mentions that ADG;s have more experience in the field, you must live under a rock or something look at the news papers you could not be more wrong. ADG only have a place in conventional operation where as and Infantrymen can and has adapted to fit all current and past conflicts in any operational environment

  • @cav19851 well said mate

  • They did not serve in Somalia, I was there. I only saw RAAF Hercules with aircrew and there were RAAF Air Traffic controllers at Mogadishu Airport.

This video needs to be corrected.

  • @beeeyemedia The Air Force historian is cheking this for us I will get back to you with the result.

  • @beeeyemedia You are correct it was a factual error. Thanks for the pickup we are addressing issue.

  • @beeeyemedia

Yes they were, this video does not need to be corrected at all

  • They did not serve in Somalia, I was there. I only saw RAAF Hercules with aircrew and there were RAAF Air Traffic controllers were at Mogadishu Airport.

This video needs to be corrected.

  • thanks for this vid, theres needsm ore aussie vids like this, explaing things in training

  • Hi I'm 14 and have an extensive weapons knowledge (not call of duty) but from books and I'm also fairly fit wat would the best way to prepare me for the ADG course

  • Hey mate, i recently finished the basic ADG course it is physically and mentally tough because there are stages where you get barely any sleep and are expected to run 5ks the next morning after a night of patrolling. all i can say to because your 14 and i think you need to be at least 18 to apply is that just play sport ( if your not already playing one) and just keep fit ... doesnt really matter about weapon knowledge because they teach you everything when your there.

  • @Cgul96 stay at school toy soilder..

  • @Cgul96 Hey, i was about your age and i went through a phaze of the Military and i would wear Auscams and study all day about the army, after a while you will loose interest but im starting my testing in Feburary and if accepted i will hopefully be an ADG in July 2011, all im saying is live your teenage life normally just chill out and take life as it is and when your 16 and a half call the Defence force and you can start testing. Good luck mate

  • so why are they the only ones who can wear the blue beret?

  • so they don't really do anything,

  • @igasigas yer, they protect aircraft while there here ( it would be stupid if something happend and all there was there to protect everyone was a hornet that wasnt even up in the air) and when there overseas they protect the aircraft there. so its a pretty important role.

  • @MANCHILD69able LAC stands for Leading Aircraftman. There is a common misconception that the word contains an 's' this is incorrect. The correct terminology is Aircraftman.

  • im only 15 and want to join the ADG.

  • how much work can you get as an adg

  • they take ADGies even if they survive the 3 week selection process. and also i rang up and they said that they arnt currently recruiting ADG's full time so what do i do??

  • @MetalMilitia565 best way is to apply reserve then transfer also uif you go reserve you can do your 10 week RTU course in two lots and the 32 week ADG course in one lot with a break between. and as far as i know the one full time applacaiton times are around july/aug

  • hey i need some really good advice from someone that is currently or have been an ADG before.

I am tossing up between a riflemen or ADG, because i am really determined to get into the SAS, and i think that an ADG would have a bit more experience in the field than the infantry. I have herd that the SAS recruit majority riflemen than any other job, but i dont know why that is, because the ADGies have more training in the field and are more physically and mentally demanding, Can someone tell me if

  • @MetalMilitia565 Me to i wanna join the SASR im tossing up between ADG or commando

  • @4tw4tw4tw try for CDO entry if they still do it then i think its 2 years till you can apply for SASR

  • @MetalMilitia565 the ADGs and infantry do simmilar but not the same jobs while infantly deploy far away from bases ADGs are inside and upto 5-10k out side bases ADG's also train other RAAF members in firearms use. if your going SASR i would reccomend rifleman (infantry) then applying for or joining as a commando (3 RAR) then after a while applying for SASR

  • @Pauln2008 Mate, you shouldnt provide advice to people if you dont know what your talking about. For starters 3RAR are not SF, they are not commandos, just para qualified infantry. Secondly, and most importantly ADGies and Grunts are not similar, not in the slightest. ADGies, in my experience, are glorified security guards, where as the RAinf are trained to find, close with and kill the enemy. So please dont confuse real soldiers in the army with mall cops in the 'chair force'. Desk sitters.

  • @MetalMilitia565 No, join as Rifleman if you hope to join the SASR. ADG's are highly skilled specialists, but they do have less "field experience" than Infantrymen, due to their defensive nature.

  • my enlistment as a full time ADG is on july 13th :) passed my trial PFA (pre-enlistment fitness assessment) about 3 weeks ago, and got my final in about 2 weeks which should be a breeze !! then im off lads !

  • They do serve a purpose, like all members of the service...but they are not special.

  • Fellas i'm lookging at becoming an ADG, need all the info and help i can get on PT BEFORE i get there i'm 188cm 104kg need to drop 10 more and want all advice you got!

  • Comment removed

  • @1980mattyl run 100 miles a week and a few times a week do a 10 mile run with a pack on your back. I did this training for fun as a teenager(partied hard on weekends too). make sure you're bloody good at chin ups too as you'll do lots of these at recruits and 104 kg is a lot to lift. Aim to meet the SAS standard and you'll make it easy. Repetition is the mother of all skill.

  • LAC actually stands for Leading Aircraftman.

  • @brono20

My Assessment day for ADG is this friday.

    once again fingers crossed

  • @SwansticK91 i truly wish you success brother, let me know how you go/went!! cheers BJ anyone who is prepared to get involved in the ADF in any capacity when we are at war with at least 2 countries has my respect, and i mean no disrespect to anyone who joined prior.. im just saying, godspped.. BJ

  • @brono20

My Assessment day for ADG is this friday.

    once again fingers crossed

  • I remember when there were only 500 views on this video. This is such a great job. Go for my assessment day on Monday. Im very excited about it all. Fingers crossed

  • i got my you session soon and im trying to get into thee ADGs too, got any advice? how about the difficulty of the aptitude? did the practice one on the defence site and it wasnt too bad

    thanks mate

  • hey mate, i got my you session soon and was hoping to make it into the ADGs, got any tips? how about the aptitude test? how highly do you have to score to be considered for the ADG position, thanks mate!

  • did u get in?

  • @bloutyben Yes i did. Quite possibly the best day of my life was that day. Next obstacle... the training. i reckon i'm ready

  • Pretty Informative. The main reason the course usually only graduates 30-40%is a combination of injuries & guys who are too soft/unmotivated to pass. Some dudes are under the misconception the job is all cruising the wire in a 110 look'in cool - They find out the hard way. LOL @ the guy who tried to put ADG's on the level of Navy CD - (in terms of hardness I'm guessing). They are simply hard work'in 'defensive' infantrymen with a boarder suite of weapon quals. & knowledge of small unit tactics.

  • I remember when there was only 300 views on this now there is more than 4500. Wow

  • an aDG trainee tried to compare ADG's to clearance divers once infront of a chief and the chief ripped him a new oooone.

  • @nichlsonstu. umm Chief? there totaly different jobs. the requirements are verry different of both for example an ADG has to run 2.4 in under 10 mins but a clearence diver has to get a beep test score of 10.1. an ADG has to do 10 chin ups or heaves a clearence diver has to do 6. besides the role is totaly different land vs sea...

  • It's fair to think that ADG's don't get to see much action. Heck, the army gave shit about the ADGs awhile back.

But try thinking of it this way, your the Air-Forces own army. Your job is to guard the fields and air-crafts etc. When army is deployed/suppies are deployed. ADGs are the first on the spot securing the ground ready for the crafts to land. Then the army gets to the action.

So I would imagin' that they get to see bit of action in their employment :)

  • @cjsutton05

They have an importan role too. Protecting air bases and aircraft. Without them troops can't be moved around rapidly and supplies will be chocked and no air support.

  • looks like a Very exciting job ...... though i guess adg's wouldnt see much combat in their careers ...maybe i'm wrong

  • well if any of u think tht seems hard or challenging u havnt seen anything yet wait till u gotta learn survival skills they chuk u out in the desert mountains and/or jungle to survive on ratpakz (ration packs) for numerous days near the end of of ur 11 month course but this is aftr the 10.4 week training period in recruitment so get ready man coz its gunna be hell of a ride

  • what is the highest group ie brigade level or do the adgies work in sqaud/platoon levels

    '

  • @VIV292

    half section to section strength

  • @VIV292

What's more interesting is the smallest groups a unit operates at. Typically, Army work in Platoon strength (35 or so). ADGs work mainly at Section (9-10 men) and Patrols (5 men). That's a lot of responsibility for a Leadinng Aircraftsman of Corporal. To be turned loose to do a vital job without an officer or Sergeant keeping tabs on you.

  • @OzSpartan613 And i thought my english wasnt great. it depends on the operation at the time. but ADGs can work in Platoon size groups its just not really neccessary. and its just the nature of the job. and its really what all this training is about is shearing the load of work and working well in a team. and actualy they do have SGT's, FSGTS and WOFFS and LAC stands for Leading Air Crewmen ;) (its a mustering not a craft)

  • @bloutyben LAC stands for Leading aircraftsman. I'm only an Air Force Cadet and even I know that. Air Force Cadets RULE!!!

  • @MANCHILD69able HEY same. wat SQN? im 326.

  • If you are applying to join as an ADG, ask your Recruiting Centre Case Manager to put you in contact with an ADG. They will send your details to an ADG, and an ADG will ring you.

  • there is only a 30% pass rate if u are on a relaxed course. i once was an ADG. my course started off with 52 people and in the first week 20 dropped off.. only 5 of us passed

  • thats tough..and those that failed.. they were your average capable athlete weren't they ? just not capable enough obviously

  • When you do the combat carry do they pair you up with someone of similar size?

  • the guys on this course, 10-14 graduated out of about 45. the rest of them either couldn't push through or sustained injuries and had to wait around for the next course.

  • im doing 1RTU 18th of may, joining as a full time ADGie any help?

  • mate train ur ass up that's all really, im a reserve adg when i graduate that's when ill do full time but good luck mate

  • Whats the best way to mentaly prepare your self? is there realy any way?

  • just push yourself hard like force yourself to go further and further thats all thats what i did lol it hurts but u get thier

  • couldn't tell you, never done either but i know alot of people who have gone ADG and bombed out cuz of the physical demand on the body, particularly the knees.

  • True i guess so i will just wait and i will repost the comment again once i have completed everything once again wish me luck

  • when do you join? have you started 1RTU? i start 1RTU on the 18th of may and im joining as an ADGie

  • Comment removed

  • hey mate... il add ya on facebook..im looking into joining and i think u know the right amount of information ..would be great to chat about it .

  • hey hit send me a messige. my enlistment is on the 18th, ill help u with what eva u wanna know

  • oi brono 20, dont go calling yourself an adg until you have done the course and actually made it.

  • say goodbye to ur knees before the age of 40 then.

  • whys that? is the ADG course harder than RAInf?

  • infantry course goes for 11 weeks, ADG goes for 15. very similar training.

  • Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and successful 2010. xxx

  • Yeah. the F88 is the base weapon that they use.. But ADG have more weapons that that to use. Ive been looking up on them, as i have my interview next week for this and Fire Fighter.

Just a suggestion, whatever position you are going for, it is best to read up on it, and also call up the recruit center to see if you can speak to someone already in an ADG unit and get some first hand info.

You can also go to RAAF website. =)

Wish me luck on my interview lads.

    Cheers -

  • good luck bro

  • im thinking the same thing

  • thanks for the video guys real help.

Im joining as an adg and carnt wait for it.

  • what sort of augs do you use oh and can you tell me y we arnt allowed bb guns in australia

  • F-88 aussteyr I believe but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

  • i think thats it or aug styer F-88

  • it is

  • no ur corret

  • posibly the f-89 aswell

  • f88 is the aus steyr that we use, f89 is the minimi also known as the LSW

  • legends
