I have been on Methadone for 3 years now, and it has completly saved/changed everything. Now, I have no cravings and I live a "normal" (you never can go back to completely normal) life. It really does work. No more hustling, no more lying, cheating and stealing. I pay my taxes and mow my yard. Sounds boring? To an past user, it's paradise! You can't understand unless you have been there. I wish them all well.

I was hospitalized last year and I was off for about two weeks. It wasn't that bad. Of course I had morphine while in the hospital and some Lortabs at home, so it wasn't cold turkey. Even so, I will never stop taking it. I am too level, too productive on Methadone. I have no craving or even think of other drugs. To me, it's been a miracle drug. At $14 a day for a normal life, a great bargin. Quinine? What do you mean?

Last year I tried to MSW (medically supervised withdrawl) and over a six month period cut my dose in half. It didn't work too well. I started drinking and getting high, which I never even thought about doing on my full dose. So, I am resigned to this for the rest of my life, probably. Much better than the alternative!

There is so much ignorance in addiction it is ridiculous. I see comments like "heroin isn't that bad" and "you need to be around drugs to achieve anything." Heroin addiction has taken everything from, including my life, and turned me into a monster. Fortunately I have found a new way of life, however it was not because I stuck around drugs so I was able to "say no." I am not able to be around drugs because I cannot say no, hence being an addict. If your mentally strong willed, you can use when you want and not make a habit out of it. I know a few ppl who have balanced college graduation and jobs while using heroin 1-2 times a month.

Heroin addiction has taken everything from, including my life, and turned me into a monster. Fortunately I have found a new way of life, however it was not because I stuck around drugs so I was able to "say no." I am not able to be around drugs because I cannot say no, hence being an addict.
