  • Spectacular !!

  • a thorough masterpiece. I am left speechless..!!

  • Excellent jugal bandhi very pleasing to ears

  • such high level of music! ...im lucky to hav seen this live!

  • Comment removed

  • irony of the situation is that srinivas plays most leads on the song and John and Zakir are seen most in the video :(

  • Can you please tell me the name of the DVD I would like to buy it

  • Absolute Bliss is the least I can say

  • namaste ;)

  • U Srinivas is the dude! What a performance, what accompaniment. You sir, are inspiration. I keep coming back to this video - have probably seen it a hundred times or more.

  • What heavenly music. This is too good to be existing in this world

  • Always amazing musicians, but I don't think the camera person understood the music. One example (of many): Shrinivas was playing amazing stuff & the camera was everywhere but his incredible hands playing beautifully.

  • no words... just enjoy:)

  • ecstatic music - super!

  • I've noticed I cannot keep my head at all still when this song plays. Its like one of those magical tunes (for want of a better word) which makes your head move at least a little bit, even when I'm in public and trying really hard not to. And I love Ustad Zakir Hussain's expression as they get right into the most delicate sections of the song - a godly song by a godly band!

  • @vaietc well said ..same experience here

  • incredible india (and co.)

  • pure inspiration

  • the mahavishnu john mclaughlin.

  • where was this recorded?

  • I am not Indian and nor do I speak Hindi or any of the ethnic languages of South Asia but I feel bliss and contentment when I listen to this. Makes me hum. Simple and clean. You can feel an african feel to this, as well. Thanks for posting!

  • what 's the name of this concert ... I want to download it and if you know others concerts' name , can you give it to me ??!! thanks

  • The 6 people who hate this video are utterly............... never mind

  • Dear bazonics

did you watched the same song at

Giriraj Sudha (Remember Shakti) posted by

    Jazzical28 on youtube?

the same song in different style by our angels

    pure bliss

  • @MrGreatTamil Yes I've got that dvd, it's a very good version.

  • this isn't good...... THIS IS AMAZING

  • this music really inspires me a lot....

  • Excellent rendering which I appreciate. Thanks

  • This is pure bliss.. the power of Indian Music... where even the god swing in estasy..

  • this may be the 100th time i am visiting this page to listen to this, and i just don't get enough of this. words are short to explain the beauty of this piece.

  • que hermoso a mi novio pachon lira le encanta!!

  • just when you think you've heard it all the infinite beauty that is music reaches yet a new height.....

  • This is one of the very best of the music that can reach to as high as heaven.

How energetic and peaceful at the same time!

  • this is one of the best pieces i have ever come across! amazing. an all genius event. just look at the co-ordination between them. it is a set of geniuses at work!! mind blowing stuff!

  • Giri Raja Sutha is a song based on rag BANgala !

  • very intelligent music, at first i did not know what to think of it... wtf is this music xD,

I had to hear it a couple of times to like it :P

    now i LOVE IT!

  • I know Giriraja Sudha is harder to sing so they're trying it but I would LOVE to hear them perform Raghuvamsa Sudha. There's nothing more beautiful than that.

  • I think the title is incorrect; it should be "Giriraja suta tanaya"

    giriraja suta (daughter) -> parvathi

    parvathi's tanaya (son) -> ganesha

  • Raag Tilak Kamod beautifully composed piece.....really out of the world Music....Shakti _/\_

  • What's the difference between Giriraja Sudha and Raghuvamsa Sudha? They look similar.

  • No words...Absolutely Fantastic..

  • Mandolin Srinivas was fantastic here.

  • 6 dislikes? wtf? :)

  • if we replace shankar to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

  • @aqeellover No Dude that doesn't work coz Nustrat is Hindustani trained, this is Carnatic, he can't sing this.

  • When i am listening this music my mind and spirit are out of my body, its just magic and so beautiful. Thanks for this incredible gift.

  • how beautiful! one of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

  • what would i do to see this live!

  • very goodddddddddd

  • superb

  • i got no words to expres......shanker sir is sooooo sooo awesome....

  • süperrrrr

  • This is one of the best live perfomances I have ever seen, the ambience , the artists and the sheer unision of excellent music takes this to celestial levels of bliss. I personally felt that Shankar Sirs voice was quite drowned by the mandolin and other instruments , they should have adjusted the output for his mic better. Take a look at Zikr saab at the portions, 5:30 to 5:48,6:08 to 6:21 and 6:27 to 6:31. He seems to be in trance just feeling the unity with the music. Amazing ...

  • beautiful one of shankar mahadevan and selva ganesh

  • awesome.. mind blowing..

just annoyed with the camera man who's only focusing on the faces rather than instruments when it is being played.. would have loved to see Zakir Hussain's magical fingers on the tabla or John's playing with the strings more often in the video..

  • Potentially the best rendition i've seen post Nithyashree Mahadevan's version on the Explosions - I CD. I love how the guitar and the Tabla change the mood of the track.. and oh, the chord progression of John, man... how can this be possible? wow!

  • @mdilip Dude it is not John but Mandolin Srinivas. You can see John clapping his hands to give the beat during the concert....

  • @dynamicishwar Shrinivas does not use chords progression.

  • Very nice rendering of Giriraja Sudha

  • I got addicted to this great harmless drug! daily I need to take one dose before going to sleep !!

  • amazing chord progression by jhon

  • Remembering Shakthi - Found in the 1970s by John Maglaughlin,Zakir Hussain,Vikku Vinaykram & L shankar is one of the fist word fusion bands.

  • Ya khudaaa.......what bliss is that I feeel.......mere words cannot explain....Wish with all my heart that I am born as a musician atleast in my next birth ..

  • Brilliant.....

  • Thank you God!

  • excelente aporte, remember sharkti es demaCIADO!!!

  • the one and only John McLaughlin

  • @allsfieldsreq...a friend works as ustad's zakir hussian's event management team...she said that the drum is custom made...designed by him so he can fuse tabla and drums at his performances together. It's the same as drum only suits to someone sitting on the ground...as one has to when playing the tabla

  • @mpsanghvi... thank you, i guess i will have to make something of my own!

  • It is actually 'Giriraaj Sutaa Tanaya' meaning Lord Ganapati, The son of the Daughter of The King of mountains (Devi Parvaati) ..

  • what is the bass drum like thing that Ustad Zakir Hussain is playing? Can I buy it in the UK... if yes, where can I buy it?

  • Zakir plays Tabla. I think you can buy it in the UK, but Im not sure. Try to google it and Im sure you will find a place where they sell them.

  • No... I play tabla and have some very good tablas! it's the western drum he plays at 4:01.

  • It's the drum mounted on the stand... from 6:08 onwards... what is it and where can I get it from?

  • hey that was brilliant man....

  • sounds that made me pass my graduation..Sounds that made me believe in my own jazz and become what ever i was...and live the nobody that i was blissfully...sounds that made me believe beyond roger waters david coverdale and jimmy page....the sounds that took me to miles and robert johnson..and beat poets..Thanks John ..thanks for eveything

  • Some of the best music ever. Love it!

  • He is definitely a properly trained singer ~ and I would love to hear this joker below sing, come on post something, anything before making absurd claims ~ I have ; )

  • so inspirational...

  • bma852, when you post such derogatory words on such beautiful music/video it reflects very poorly on you. Easy on the profanity although I'm glad your enthusiastic about the music.

  • incredible - thank you!

  • amazing

  • i'm telling this and i'm afraid to have bad thumbs:

    This is awesome

  • SENSATIONAL!! BEAUTIFUL!!

  • Feel blessed.... was there to witness this piece of history.

  • best music ever created..

  • I have always loved McLaughlin, I have seen him many times live but not in this setting!

  • Love the vocals, nice seeing the one singing those vocal, Shankar truly is fantastic, again my tablas, the guitar, percussion, and the mandolin truly a fun piece to begin your work day. I was so thrilled and hated to have it end. Thank you for sharing bazonics, a great choice. Pease and Love!! : -) Namaste!!:)

  • so beautiful. love this.

  • They are unreal!!

  • This is a heavenly song orginally composed by Saint Thyagaraja in "bangala" ragaam and adhi tala. A great fusion with mastreos like Zakir, John, U Srinivas, Selva and Shanker.

  • words cannot express how beautiful this music is

  • Sreenivas is God!!

  • Amazing group!

  • I was sitting and making some notes for my software project, browsing the youtube in background...and I was just stuck leaving everything with the synchrony of these awsome guys..John, Zakir are beyond imagination..salute to you guys..

  • This group is cosmic intelligence in play! Just love them.

  • Naaa!!! They are all bound in their quest for musical perfection. That's why the group is so diverse. Not the the feckin' Black with their rap etc etc etc. Pagan Spudless Fuckers they are!!! Yo!!!

  • The title should be giriraja sutha not sudha. I attended one of the remember shakti concerts recently, all of them are amazing except Shankar Mahadevan, his shouting doesn't suit Carnatic music, he is good only with filmy stuff . Everyone else in the group is a genius!

  • SHOUTING? He is a properly trained singer.

Ask ur HIMESH RESHAMMIYA to sing a 2 n a half minute beathless or sing as soulfully as he rendered RIND POSH MAAL.

He learned the veena as child. He has an extremely strong classical background.

  • Of course Shankar shouts, which suits hindi film music not carnatic music. You may not be a carnatic music enthusiast. Else you would have known.

  • i have heard Balamuralikrishna shouting. Now what? i can give u the link as well. If u r a great singer why dont u upload ur videos. I will subscribe for sure. By the way Shankar is best at what he is doing. May be u r just a cry baby knowing the fact that shankar is influenced wiith Pt Bhimsen Joshi who hails from Gwalior Gharna. Is it ur jealousy which is speaking?

  • LOL @ you to compare both of them and also to think Shankar Mahadevan is the messiah of Carnatic music. Why should I be jealous of Shankar's training from Pt.Joshi. Dont resort to personal attacks if you dont have anything else to say.

  • its not me who is comparing. its u who is criticizing. Or may be u r as great as Bharat Ratna Balamuralikrishna or some other carnatic music great. Is it so??Nothing personal anyways.

  • Who cares about Himesh Reshammiya, I cannot care less for his singing. Regarding Shankar, his singing lacks manodharma, one of the main ingredients of carnatic music and also, he cannot do any alapanai and he tries to compete with Shrinivas' speed. Shrinivas, the genius he is, can of course deliver both speed and accuracy and Shankar is no Shrinivas!!!

  • Asha, Lata and Ismail darbar have themselves personally said shankar is brilliant.

Im not classically trained like u r. But this is the 1st time in my life that ive seen sum1 talk like that abt shankar. im not saying u admire him coz others do.

But ive liked him for a LOTTT of songs and also LATA and ASHA have great words to say.

I like hariharan, srinivas, vijay prakash, vijay yesudas n some others.

  • Shankar Mahadevan is one singer who performs with complete soul. As far as Carnatic music is conerned, he is a professional Carnatic singer. Dont compare him with Balamuralikrishna. Not everyone can be him. What shankar has done for the industry is enough. He has taken Carnatic music to new heights, else your so called Carnatic music would have been restricted to SOUTH INDIA only. Hails Shankar. Jai Bharat

  • You Say "Shankar Mahadevan has taken carnatic music to new heights", Seriously, do you even have a clue of what you are saying?? And oh yeah just before you say yes, "justify" what you just said!!

  • Ofcourse yes. Carnatic music was restricted to South India, say thanks to shankar that he re-moulded carnatic sangeet in a manner so that everyone started loving it. Nusrat did the same to Qawwalis.

  • @siddharth1dey you must be banned by youtube for your derogatory comments, Shame on you

  • @siddharth1dey "Your Carnatic music"? That's your ignorance speaking, don't insult masters like Shankar Mahadevan with your ignorance. Bow in reverence to the musical masters who made is possible for us to enjoy this video. Spreading music is left to them, all you can do is talk.

  • Of course I know about Shakti's existence from 70s. Do you realize they are playing a carnatic song in this video? There are a lot of carnatic singers who will do more justice than Shankar Mahadevan. His pronounciation of the Sanskrit words is just killing the song. Just because you are Ustad's Shagird doesn't give you the right to name calling. Watch what you say.

  • Dude ~ not only am i his shagird I also am a professional musician. And Joker is not name calling Silly Man ; ) Lighten up ~ just because you have no clue what you are speaking of don't blame me. Yes of course, John and Zakir-Ji obviously do not know what they are doing when they made this choice. You are Silly. That is not a bad word

  • Of course I know what I am saying. I even gave the reason in my response. I cannot comment on why John and Zakir chose Shankar, but, I feel this group would be much better without Shankar Mahadevan. His style of singing has a lot of filmy influence in it. Its not just me, there are some others who have commented the same. You should have known it, u moron (Just to lighten up things!!) :D

  • He is not a permanent member sir... Also Joker and Moron are not the same. Moron is a true insult, Joker is funny. Hey next time I will be sure to ask Zakir-ji to ask your opinion okay?

Lighten things up? You have no clue what the difference between calling someone a Joker (Mera Naam Joker) and calling someone a Moron. Jerk

  • Their timing is impeccable!!!

  • すばらしい

  • Who negged this? lol, it says "wonderful."

  • I had the honour to be at one of their gigs in Paris, 2004. Mind blowing... They are all god gifted artists and yet very humble...

  • Wonderful! Brilliant!

  • the title's giriraja sudha...not ras

  • srinivas sir you are the best & the pride of india & indian music! thank you for your amazing talent & amazing humble personality!

  • no one like u srinivas . lots of love and respect. he is such a humble guy, he would definitely have underplayed to let john, zakir et al to have more time and space. he is such a guy.

  • Brilliant :) mind blowing...excellent syncopations..simple n neat...not complicating demseleves nd d audience though they al know a lot in music..shows der humility...brilliant...so proud of r country...

  • please change the title of this video - It is not Giri ras Sudha instead it is Giriraja suta which means parvati devi's son ganesha and is a composition by Sri Tyagaaraja .

  • Out of tune or not, this fellow's vocal have a beautiful, soothing quality. OH yeah, and McLaughlin is good too:P

  • master piece

  • Nice, but the vocal is quite out of tune at times in beginning

  • Out of tune is overused. What does out of tune mean? A little out of tuneness at times brings creativity and a full ness. Specially if you know what you are doing.

  • indian classical music teaches about embellishment or in simpler terms playing/singing a note a micro tone out of pitch to further colour a single note.

  • no its not.... :-).

  • Better to keep your mouth shut, and have people wonder if you are a fool then to open it and leave then in no doubt!!!!

  • Super combination on Raag Hansdhwani.

  • This is not Hansdhwani...

  • @mehfil3 This is not Raag Hansdhwani.. it is a raaga called Bangala . It is a child raaga (janya) of Dheera-sankarabharna.

  • @mehfil3 This is not Hamsadhwani.

  • Great...really great..no words to say...Amazing performance..i cont type properly bcos drops are coming out from my eyes....thankyou shankarji, zakirji, and johnji...u r all really great..

  • awesome!!!! incredible!! i dont how thoes guys are, but they're great.

Someone can tell me whats the tabla??

  • It's an indian percussion instrument, normally the instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and tone colours.

  • check out "hariparsaud and zakir hussain" on youtube.

    regards,

  • hail shakthi.... simply superb

  • i'm speechless

  • its like been flying.. the heaven on my ears

  • Thanks so much for sharing

  • U.Shrinivas is just amazing!

  • The best thing to see is that they are really having fun while performing on stage ! they are enjoying what they are doing !

  • height of Indian classical music and beautifull western mix..music for sure speaks a universal language...John playing a 'keertana'..cool

  • It's one of the greatest pleasures to watch and hear Shakti in concert. Thanks for sharing this sort of videos. Nothing more inspiring and moving than this sounds from the heart.

  • Loveeeee Shakti--- and the entire group!

    Great John Mc Laughlin..

PS see also "the mahavishnu orchestra.."

  • the songs starts: "girirajasuta tanaya", not "Giriras Sudha"

  • awesome!!

  • nice voice

  • Awesome music, simply awesome. I saw this lineup perform in Kuala Lumpur. They are amongst the greatest musicians on this planet. The interplay between discipline and total abandonement is of the highest levels.

  • 06:30 ile 06:40 arası ...............

  • çok başka yerlerdeler...vay vay vayyy

  • Did they locate L.Shankar at all ?

  • Outstanding!
