  • I know MD All-State is doing the last movement.

  • Only the last? LOL Thats what we're playing in Orchestra right now...in HS...our All State plays the whole friggin thing xD

  • haha. I think mostly it's a time issue. What state you live in?

  • Texasssss :)

All State just passed this weekend

  • cool! ours in MD is Feb 28th

  • I love looking for Shostakovitch's 5th on youtube and finding comments from texas all state on all of them :))

i was a bass player, it was so beast

  • I'm so happy I'm playing this in orchestra! =]

  • with an apparent triumphal air this last movement is supposed to have been a salute to the stalisnistic regime where Shostakovich lived, but anyway he was accused of a formalist, perhaps the significance of this movement and of the whole symphony for that matter was to recreate the defeat of the individual against totalitarism, one will never know, it's still a great work

  • I love it

  • amazing, though its the only piece from Shostakovich that I've heard is amazing...

  • have you heard The Fire of Eternal Glory? It is an incredibly famous song he wrote that is played constantly at the Stalingrad memorial in Russia from WW2. It is a slower piece, but it is played very often by professional symphonies and the Phantom Regiment had it in their show once. I love it.

  • @PhilipLu3 festive overture is pretty amazing

  • @achillesian yes, over the past two years i've come to appreciate more and more of shostakovich, but it takes a while to appreciate his music. I would say that this is one of the more palatable shostakovich pieces for someone who has never heard his music.

  • foarte buna prestatia, bravo Chisinau!
