@finconnaiseur111 you play violin? If you play the violin so I do not understand the problem of hate this I am 12 years old and I play violin for seven eyears now and I study music for 10 years
Dont hang yourself its bad technique :) practice them sounding only one note at a time, at a very slow speed where you can play every note in tune. then put them together and speed up one notch at a time on a metronome. Be patient you wont learn it in one day :)
@Violincrazy I don't feel like Midori or Sarah Chang EVER played one note at a time on a low speed to the metronome.. They popped out the womb with their fingers flying over the neck of the violin. And for we mere mortals it's just so discouraging having to play one note at a time, and then watch these videos and know that we'll never get there. My name is Negative Nancy.
honestly, i like midori's version better than sarah chang..sometimes i think sarah chang plays too rough? idk how to explain, just not light and sweet enough. but things like shostakovich, she can play very well.
@vivl0x0ian3 I don't get why people like you always compare things like this with others. They both are amazing, and have great talent that suits their style. But I do agree that Midori is better suited for pieces like this. But don't insult Sarah, because she does her best, too.
@hmblah wth, people like me? theres nothing wrong with comparing. it's not like im saying sarah chang or midori SUCK or that sarah chang doesn't do her best. All of them are great violinists. i just prefer different versions...jeez
@Mecinimi Gil Shaham sounds rushed and and careless to me. It's not enough to look happy while playing, the notes have to be there. About her sound, keep in mind that microphones play a big part in this. I've been recorded by bad microphones and it was dreadful.
I don't know anything about violin but is that technique at 2:27 what you call flageolet tones? She seems to be very adept at those. Are the hard to execute? Thanks in advance.
I said bravo bravo bravo again along with the crowds noticably unanimous abrupt appraisal distinguishing this performance a notch above so many other great performances where the reaction from the crowd may be there, but not quite comparable to this one. Can anyone find any thing critical to say of this blessed Midori's performance of Carmen Fantasie?
@SsteinwayS Please tell me you're not serious. Is she supposed to sound unrehearsed? Is she supposed to feign sloppiness just to please snobby listeners like you who ejaculate idiocy and think it intellectual?
as she finished i was saying bravo bravo aloud as she finished i knew i had found a new elite. she is just unbelievable. i have never hear violin played like that before. wow wow wow wow and wow. bravo!!
i like sarah chang better. I think if midori had a better violin she would sound better. She plays well, dont get me wrong but her violin has no resonance.
This is a live performance, lacking audio enhancement. The sarah chang version on yt is professionally recorded, obviously seen by the changing backgrounds, that made me dizzy :PP
@Elainelps0421 hehe...I think the Baroque violin she uses has a gorrrgeeous sound...but she decides to push it to its limits in the Romantic repertoire (and even in Shostakovich!!) is quite beyond me :O
she's fantastic....but there's a small problem....she doesn't feel the music!i mean she doesn't dance the music well!u know what i mean?...btw they forgot a piece from it you can hear gil shaham playing it...but she is absolutely fantastic!
btw this is not the best of midori's carmen. her other video of carmen is better than this one. this one is kinda okay. it's not strong enough and doesn't have that much tone into it.
Lucky you! I think that I can see this this very clearly from this video, that Midoris double jointedness gets her everywhere with ease. of course she had to practice also, but just look at it! How can someone move so easily without her particular physique? I've watched many great violinists on youtubes.
She has lost several times her connection with the orchestra, playing faster. Of course a great performer but I like sarah chang technique and precision better
Mmmm... I don't really think there that one perfect form of hands for the Violin... there is an advantage and disadvantage for every different kind of hand... I think what makes a good player is how he/she adapts to his own hand and balance it's own advantages and disadvanteges... Sarah Chang for example has very short fingers and small hands, but she plays good
I worry about the fiddle here - it's the 'ex-Gibson' 'ex Hubermann' 'ex-Ricci' del Gesu' of 1734. An instrument with a truly massive tone. My question is has Midori the strength to bring it out?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Far from it - it's one of the great instruments. All I was saying is does she have strength to bring out Guarneri tone. Remember, few women play them - at top level they almost all play Strads...
I believe Midori can, she is a amazing player just like sarah chang. she can bring out the beautiful tone of it. just watch her play the prokofiev concerto no. 2 it's amazing. Her tone is absolutely beautiful mostly the third movement it's so powerful.
does ProudKoreanGuy know that its Seiji Ozawa conducting? If not, then its evident that he's ignorant. if he does know, he still has no idea what he's talking about.
I begin to become excited, because in 10 days I'll play (in orchestra) with her, the Mendelssohn concert....Wow, I wonder what an experience for me....
Of course she was great! She's a little person (she's 37 now) but very determined. And she plays very softly, we had always to play piano to not overcome her...but she has a lot of musicality!
i disagree. even though they're easier than other mvts, you need to play them in order to complete the carmen. if you don't need to play the easier movements, why do players play the 2nd mvts of concertos?
Ok, i would agree with that. But, i must say, 2nd movements have a different type of diffculty. Especially in romantic music, like say bruch violin concerto or mendelssohn.
I agree. Why must everything be "DIFFICULT". This piece was written as a violin showpiece, certainly, but it was also written to bring the fabulous music of Bizet to a wider audience.
DIFFICULTY is the essence of music. If there's no difficulty, the piece is rubbish. To me, only difficult pieces are true music, the rest are just garbage to me. For example Massanet's Meditation, its just rubbish as its easy as hell
Sure it's easy to play; I had it memorized within a day. But I practiced it for 3 years under the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra concert master until I finally got bored and gave up. It's an easy piece to play but NOT an easy piece to master.
You're right that difficulty is the essence, but only insofar as that pieces which have strong genuine intent by the composer are noteworthy, and incidentally, understanding this intent is often as difficult as it is deep.
