After 6 months of offering stem cell therapy in combination with the venous angioplasty liberation procedure, patients of CCSVI Clinic have reported excellent health outcomes. A group of Canadian patients just back from Noble have reported similar results. “I can actually see what I thought were long-dead muscles forming in my feet” said Larry Vermeersch of Kenora, Ontario. “My balance is back and I’m walking without a cane. Autologous stem cell transplantation is a procedure by which blood-forming stem cells are removed, and later injected back into the patient. All stem cells are taken from the patient themselves and cultured for later injection. In the case of a bone marrow transplant, the HSC are typically removed from the Pelvis through a large needle that can reach into the bone. Log on to ccsviclinic. ca for more information.
The technique is referred to as a bone marrow harvest and is performed under a general anesthesia. The incidence of patients experiencing rejection is rare due to the donor and recipient being the same individual. This remains the only approved method of the SCT therapy. The only reason stem cell research is an issue is because fucking religious pieces of shit nutjobs think that they have a right to impose their views on others. Fuck all of them and their delusional visions of their invisible god.
There is a lot of progress being made with Stem Cell Research. I raise funds for it and hope I make a difference for those who suffer with SCI. Just as most people hate the thought of cancer, a spinal cord Injury is just as bad or worse in some cases. Stem cell research is not destroying life, it is improving the quality of life for those affected with SCI.
I am in fact a recipient of the adult stem cell transplant and have regained tremendous results from the procedure. I am an incomplete paraplegic and it has been 8 years since my accident. a year ago I ahd the procedure done and it works. If the embrionic is so good then why are the Dr.'s who do it hiding? To me using embrionic stem cells are wrong morally and if it's ok with you the you are agreeing to murder to get these. It is my own personal opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.
@pattyshope embryonic stem cells work much more efficiently and effectively than adult stem cells, and embryos aren't people. At the stage embryonic stem cells are harvested, embryos are minute clusters of undifferentiated stem cells. Your confusion comes from a lack of general biological knowledge and a religiously driven desire to enforce an immoral code of conduct which places a clump of cells before the lifelong happiness of a paralyzed child.
@poolopis If you need info for the center in Germany I will be glad to give it to you. O have been there and had it done and it has helped tremendously and my Dr's aren't hiding.
Happy as I am for this guy, I'm skeptical that injections of ESC's directly to his spinal cord are what led to his improvement. Typically, you inject an ESC into the spinal cord, and a tumor develops. ESC's aren't by themselves functional in a way that are helpful to SCI's - they have to turn into something else (such as a schwann cell).
More likely, the powers of the mind are what helped this guy reach recovery. Maybe some Anthony Robbins tapes helped the process :)
Stem Cell Research does need to be funded. Just not ESCR. Huge strides are being made in ASCR, evan successful proceedures are happening TODAY. And it is today that people who have injuries, diseases, failing organs - Need help now, not in 20 40 or 60 years, but NOW.

It was basic research with embryonic stem cells what has allowed advances in adult stem cell research. As I stated in my previous comment, in fact. Apparently you have a reading comprehension problem. Which explains your misinformation in this issue, as well
Stem cell research was born in the sixties. Check your facts.
BTW, I'm curious, will you swallow your words about ESC treatments if Geron's does work? One of the major reasons why no ESC trials have not been done until now is that Dubya was stiffling the field, you know.
zar - As I said, go back to school. We've been working on Stem Cell Research for decades. Identified, first, in the early 1900s scientists started working in this area.
And if you take the time to research, you will find that it was President Bush that allowed funding for stem cell research. If you don't believe me, then research it yourself. Also, while you're researching, look-up the Dickey Amendment and read why it was written and it's contents.
Geron is not the first corporation that's trying to make hESCR work. But, to answer your question... The only way this corporation or any corporation is going to have stem cell success is to put their research money into ASCR.
This NEEDS to be funded! Religion need to shut the fuck up and take a look at the damn results HUMANS are making to better THEIR lives. Not the results of their "god(s)", which aren't doing a damn thing.
I want to see Andrew's MRI, right after the injury, 6 months after the injury and the MRI Today. Heck! I'm not greedy, you can post these MRI slides on YouTube. So we all can see them.
Good Susan, keep the faith,we'll get there, but only after a huge change. Pharmaceutical industries and others who make money out of it do not want it to happen.Vatican is against it also, if they care so much about human life, why dont they use their fortune to end starvation in Africa for instance? When is this going to change? Until then, this is the world we live in,,,not different from a savaje jungle.
To EVERYONE - As of this date 10/12/2008, there have been no successful ESCR cures for spinal cord injuries. If you don't believe me, just read alllllllll of the medical journals and you will find out I am correct. And I don't want to hear of some research in outter Mongolia where they got stem cells from a pregnant yack those stem cells worked to repair someone's spine.
First, I am so sorry for your condition and I hope that you are doing well.
I wouldn't ask this either. But let's look at some facts. We use embryos and discard them all the time for IVF treatments. It takes several discarded embryos to get one baby. If embryos can be created and destroyed to make infants, then it seem to me that the same can be done to help individuals such as yourself.
I think you know the answer to that. I think you also know how to cut down on the number of embryos in the future. But, in this do what feels good and consequences be damned world of ours. I doubt that will happen.
"he received the experimental treatment in Dallas and in Pittsburg" so this is obviously available in US. Too bad his "Confidentiality Agreement" "prevents revealing the doctors or facilities involved". As Scientific American says, "Embryonic Stem Cells, unlike adult stem cells, cannot be used directly in therapy because they cause cancer." This story stinks of fake.
BS. If he were injected with embryonic stem cells he'd be riddled with tumors. There have never been any clinical trials using embryonic stem cells in the world - let alone a top secret one that 'no longer is available'. He can't tell us who did it or where it was done. How convenient. Probably lost all the medical records regarding his paralysis, too.
"If he were injected with embryonic stem cells he'd be riddled with tumors"
How do you know that? If "There have never been any clinical trials using embryonic stem cells in the world"? You are contridicting your own statements!
"ES cells, unlike adult stem cells, cannot be used directly in therapy because they cause cancer. Indeed, one laboratory test for ES cells is to inject them into mice and analyse the teratoma (a tumour formed of foetal tissue) that arises. - Scientific American
you are clueless and you must be healthy, cause if you were in our tragic shoes you would keep your nonsense comments to yourself. seeing is believing and we have seen
Hey, my grandfather has already entered into the world of alzhiemer, I could be next in line and if Stem cells, adult or embryo is there to save me from that terriable fate then I am there for it all the way. You think about how much you are agains STR when you become sick with parkinson, alhzimer, parayles, or even cancer. You will change your mind.
Alzheimers is a whole brain disease. You can't replace parts and restore memory and he won't survive the brain transplant. They're blowing the placques out for recovery and UCF's Dr. Sugaya using adult stem cells for brain repair. Parkinsons? adult working, embryonic all rats had brain tumors within 10 wks., embryonic causes cancer, other stem cells used to home in on markers and deliver drugs. UofLouisville has rats running w/own stem cells. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid and do your own research.
Sorry, only been a zoologist doing stem cell research for over a decade. You're indepth analysis is far more amazingly insightful than mine that references studies.
Thats a load of crap they are using adult stem cells not embryonic stem cell Fox made it up to stop financing by the Government. This film is a hoax!!
Why the PHUCK does every newscast about SCI start of with, "ITS A CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE", I hate that, its just turning more and more people away from discussing this topic. The media is making this issue seem unimportant to the masses, i.e (walking folk)....I just want to walk dammit!! Is that so hard??!!
its a religious belief keeping this from being researched
when are we going to realize that religions are bad for us,not only does it tell us that we are evil people from birth but it oppresses us
there was a time when the "church" punished people for knowing how to read
the church felt that reading was a gift from god and only true holy people deserved it
FUCK RELIGION open your minds and escape the dark ages people,we now live in the digital age

Type "Miracle Stem Cell Cure?" into the search. Another story of a woman who is as well now walking from ESCR. She received the treatment in India.
Hiddenblademaster 3 years ago
I hope they find a way with this research how to cure spinal bifida some day. It sucks having it
tornopen666 3 years ago
Dude if there was a cure I'd be there, ok. there is no cure yet there needs to be more research on all types of stem cells!

So what should we do with the billion microscopic embryos that are frozen that end up in the trash each year?
SithLegion3 3 years ago 6
@SithLegion3
I think you know the answer to that. I think you also know how to cut down on the number of embryos in the future. But, in this do what feels good and consequences be damned world of ours. I doubt that will happen.

From what I understand adult stem cells are the only ones that do any good.

Oh really. Show some research links.

AnnOnimousiAm 3 years ago
these treatments are available outside the country.
miraclejuicejb 3 years ago
Really? Where? Who's doing them? Where's the journal article so it can be peer reviewed and taught in med school so millions can be helped?
AnnOnimousiAm 3 years ago
AnnOnimousiAm 3 years ago

You will change your mind.
orlandobabe 3 years ago 2
Alzheimers is a whole brain disease. You can't replace parts and restore memory and he won't survive the brain transplant. They're blowing the placques out for recovery and UCF's Dr. Sugaya using adult stem cells for brain repair. Parkinsons? adult working, embryonic all rats had brain tumors within 10 wks., embryonic causes cancer, other stem cells used to home in on markers and deliver drugs. UofLouisville has rats running w/own stem cells. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid and do your own research.
AnnOnimousiAm 3 years ago
your ignorance is just...wow
Zintos446 2 years ago
Sorry, only been a zoologist doing stem cell research for over a decade. You're indepth analysis is far more amazingly insightful than mine that references studies.
AnnOnimousiAm 2 years ago
this is completely crazy ... embyonic stem cells have never been used in the US GERON is the first to get approval...duuuu

Yeah, I don't believe this "Andrew". Where is the proof?
I can totally understand wanting the tests to start and the trials to be underway, but so far, Andrew looks fake.

I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but adult stem cells ARE helping people with spinal cord injuries.
BoyGenteel 3 years ago
I do you know that?
Sparksnwheels 3 years ago
"I do you know that?"?? Is that supposed to be a question for me?
BoyGenteel 3 years ago
Yes Boygenteel my question to you is that "How is that you know" that adult steam cells ARE helping people with SCI?

I'm a T-4 SCI Paraplegic and I'm realy interested on this.
Thanks
Sparksnwheels 3 years ago
Just put "Dr. Carlos Lima" and/or "Jacki Rabon" into your friendly neighborhood search engine, just for a start.
BoyGenteel 3 years ago
Thats a load of crap they are using adult stem cells not embryonic stem cell Fox made it up to stop financing by the Government. This film is a hoax!!
nedobs 3 years ago
hey... shut up.
FaiselQazi 3 years ago
yes you are right Adult stem cell are being used to treat many things and showing great success for some.
nedobs 3 years ago
Prove it?
SithLegion3 3 years ago
Why the PHUCK does every newscast about SCI start of with, "ITS A CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE", I hate that, its just turning more and more people away from discussing this topic. The media is making this issue seem unimportant to the masses, i.e (walking folk)....I just want to walk dammit!! Is that so hard??!!
Studio102 3 years ago 2
How long are we going to put up with these lies the media is pushing?
