Tom Joyner is the most classless guy in the music business. It shows he does not respect the profession. Maybe one day his fat self will have a heart attack while trying to hog the stage. If I am close by I am not even going to help him.
if you don't know what 'funk" is then sit your ass down. to many people into rap when the Bar-kays still on the front line. this is the shit and it's MUSIC!!!!!!!!!
I saw this concert: UNITED WE FUNK. Off the hook. Still touring in a different incarnation now, MASTERS OF FUNK, with many of the same players. Awesome concert.
TOM IS JAMMMMMMING BABY AND THE LEAD IS SLAMMMMMMING. THE BAND IS TOOOOOO BAD.NOBODY CAN TOUCH THE BAR KAYS...NOTE CONFUNKSHUN IS MIXED IN THE BAND TOO.
No the singer of today are not artist. They just think they are. This is one of the best groups ever.....The lead singer is bad as helllllllll. THIS MAN IS BAD....AND TOM IS HANGING WITH THEM.
@DERLESIA1 You are so right! We had a great time doing this at Pleasure Island in Disney World in Florida. It was filmed in 2000. Oh, I"m drumming on this tour!
@buddyjb5 I usually don't care for LIVE music...but this sounds so good it will make YOU fellows want to suck your girlfriends/wives daddys peeder for sho!
Still strong after 30 yrs. Most of the orignal Bar-Kays members died with Otis Redding when his plane went down, one survivor...history is chilling to know the back story.
Sorry - I thought I saw a white girl there as well, and thought I had to differentiate them in order to specify who I was impressed with... Don't worry - I'm not a racist !!
The original Barkay were around at the same time as George Clinton in the 1960s; however, the Barkays got more road experience and popularity than George because of touring with powerhouses such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, etc!
George Clinton was trying first, but the Bar Kays hit the mark first. Y'all gotta remember, the original Bar Kays were babies, still in high school when they were hitting it, even before 'Soul Finger'. Gone too soon, in December of 1967.
George is actually about ten years older than the original Bar Kays.
the barkays have been around since the 60s they were the back up band for otis, alot of the original members died in a plane crash so the y reformed again with new members
I can't believe how wrong people are saying that George Clinton & Parliament were around before the Bar-Kays. Please, check your facts before you spout off misinformation. The original Bar-Kays were Otis Reddings band! The Bar-Kays were also around before Cameo! Please give the Bar-Kays their props!
The Parliaments were formed in late 50s. In early 60s they were already recording songs with kind of strange lyrics. They didn't have a hit until 1967 with "I (Wanna) Testify, same year Bar Kays hit with "Soul Finger". "Testify" was #3 r&b & #20 pop. "Soul Finger" was also #3 r&b & #17 soul. So both songs made about the same impact. But Parliament had been performing and recording much longer than the Bar Kays.
LARRY'S Bad ass!!! nobody can touch that-love the arrangement...Live music played for real is awesome. Take away all that pre tracked sequencing that young folk are touring with.
from the ashes the spirit of the bar kays lives this is a funk materpieece .these are my players that make my life enjoyable---the players, roger ,bootsy, james, isley's,sly, george, snoop too many groups are faking the funk
I dont know how anyone can "fake" the funk. It just comes out, it is in everyone. Especially since George Clinton and his crew have been around just as long as the Bar-Kays so I do not know what your talking about. Picking favorites never gets anyone anywhere.
george clinton already had a group before the bar kays in mid 1960's.He formed parliament around 1971 from what I read. I was still a grade schooler when parliament were doing their mothership connection in 1975.That bar kay fan doesn't know what he's talking about. George clinton started what we now know as funk. He patterned his unique system from the FOUNDER of it all, JAMES BROWN, the great late james brown. I love the bar kays but they came around when cameo and other great groups started
you're splitting hairs Tomthefunky. The fact remains that the Bar-Kays were Otis' band which is what I said. The fact that Booker T & the MGs were also Otis' band does not negate the fact that the Bar-Kays were also his band. whew! You funknots are something else!
Actually, I have to take back what I originally said. The Bar-Kays were technically not Otis's band They did that one fateful tour with Otis but we'll never know if they would have continued to work with him exclusively, or if they would have toured with other Stax artists. After all, they were groomed by Booker T & the MG's to take off some of their heavy work load. But the fact remains that everything Otis ever recorded (minus the Whisky-Au-Go-Go album) was recorded with Booker T & the MG's.
How refreshing to see these bands still have the ability to rock the house. It's evident by the crowd, that regardless of them being older, overweight, bald whatever there still is interest in music other than going to da club, sex, have naked ho's etc. Groups like this, they will forever be in demand. Classic case Frankie Beverly and Maze, who have not had a studio recording in over a decade but still packs the house. Always sold out whatever the venue. This is soul survival at it's finest
It's painful to watch certain bands perform live 30 years after their popularity has waned. Watching the lead singers, overweight and out of breath try to perfom with the same energy is just disturbing. These guys rocked the house in the 70's, but now.....well.....thanx for the memories anyway.
should we pained looking at you when we compare how you "used" to be and move 30 yrs ago?? stop being silly!! the music still sounds good right? that's all that matters!!
one of the reasons why these guys are more popular in Europe and Japan today than America, Americans are very dumb about their music, and very retarded, so just leave them alone
And he helped found the Commodores back in Tuskeegee back in the day. He's a multi-millionaire with a syndicated radio show in more than 100 markets & just bought his own stations in Chicago.
