can you give a walk around of how you went about setting it up? im very very interested in hooking up a W/M system on my om617. I've got an 85 300D and it's great for highway with the 2.88, but it be nice to get a little more around town hill climb power. Reducing carbon build up is always a plus too.
@brons2 lowers the air temperature like an intercooler to help the engine live longer and give more torque. It can be used when there are space restrictions for intercoolers
what did you use to inject it? a diy kit or a kit you bought? how much better did you mpg get?
nicklikecows 3 months ago
@nicklikecows There is no such thing as free energy. The MPG change does not alter how much money is spent per mile.

@Turbo617 i see, but did you buy this kit? did you mpg change, no matter the trade off
nicklikecows 3 months ago
@nicklikecows I made this kit using normal off-the-shelf parts. Total cost was around $250, the pump and nozzles being 85% of it.
MPG change means nothing, the cost of injecting the methanol per mile is the same as diesel.
The point of water injection is to cool the air and increase power by injecting more fuel (methanol).

So your using the -30*f rating is this the ideal ratio?

Do you know how well windshield washer fluid works? I think it's a 50/50 mixture of water and methanol.
024reredrum 1 year ago
@024reredrum Its all I've been using. Methanol ratio depends on its temperature rating. It goes from less than 1% for 32*f+ to 35% for -30*f.
Do not use anything with glycol!

@024reredrum windshield washer fluid is 35% use three bottles of yellow heet for a 50-50 mix

What is the purpose of the w/m injection? To give an extra shot of power when you need it? For example going up a hill or entering the freeway?

@brons2 Cleaning the cylinders, extra power and better fuel economy.
