  • Jime lee la tiene re clara, se comio un sanguche de miga.

  • @DocHartford Malcolm x yeah? Not the x files by any chance

  • woooow, they take shots on dc, but the irony is, jim lee is now pratically running dc.

  • @PreyingPhantom yeah true

  • Is there a remastered version of this on dvd or something? :P Not to be anti-classic here, but I'd love to have this on dvd.

  • D: i thoght Jim Lee was Stan Lee son D:

  • @Cthulhuized lol

  • Thank god for Jim's college art professor.

  • i have xmen #1 and it is the best comic in marvel.

  • what year was this ?

  • Man i grew up with the x-men cartoon from the 90's and the comic. I still read the first issue every couple weeks.

  • i used to think jim lee was stan's son, then when i saw he was asian i thought stan adopted him. i was a dumb kid

  • @ telewatcher (last 1)artists from the 00's though that I like.4 example Mike Turner,Gary Frank. &Mike Mayhew.U got any?.I would also like 2 apologize 2 u & any1 reading this if I've caused any inconvience.Thank you very much so 4 ur time though.

  • artists from the 00's though that I like.4 example Mike Turner,Gary Frank. &Mike Mayhew.U got any?.I would also like 2 apologize 2 u & any1 reading this if I've caused any inconvience.Thank you very much so 4 ur time though.

  • @ telewatcher89 (cont'd 3) messed up the avengers & really messed up the x-men & mutants in general.Things look a bit better 4 avengers now ( dont really like the different teams like new, secret & regular I guess). Cant really say the same thing 4 the x-men (4 now @ least) even with Hope Summers now. What bugs me is how with Marvel 4 ex. they say that something like each time there's a new storyline "things will change forever".& DC?.2 "Crisises" in less then 5 years?.There's some good

  • @ telewatcher89 (cont'd 2)story back when were saying Sabretooth was his dad (until SHIELD's bloodtest proved otherwise) 2 Origin in Nov '01 (which I hope will remain the real deal canon origin o'Wolvie) which was kind o'dark & did'nt have (I think) any o'the very action oriented gestures/poses o'the 90's.I mean that stuff was awesome but honestly I think it was bit cheesy when other cartoons & stuff tried 2 imitate that.I agree with u that what Wanda Maximoff did with "Dissassebled" & "HoM"

  • @ telewatcher89 (comment cont'd) after all in the 90's their were some good comic book based cartoons (ex.the Marvel animated U) & they prob. did gimmicks in the comics 2 appeal 2 like kids who were new 2 this stuff when they saw the toons.I'll admit 90's artists like Lee,Liefield & MacFarlane definately had a very original dynamic very stylish art style which was also very serious. However 2b honest I like the mid 2000's & onwards serious storylines.Ex.compared a 90's Silvestri drawn Wolvie..

  • @ telewatcher89.Like ur comment man.Great 2c see such detailed talks about comics. That thing u said about how fans nowadays would like stuff in noir or realistic style personally I think it's b/c o'movies.2 me @ least comics like that have a bit more o'a live show or cinematic feel 2 them.I kind o'disagree with u a bit.The 90's was a bit gimmicky.Like death o'superman, onslaught, heroes reborn & the amazing spider man reboot in Jan '99.

  • I owned about 3 copies of X-Men #1. Amazing artwork.

  • Stan Lee's a great interviewer, and Jim a great interviewee.

  • Wow can't believe it wasn't that long ago , Jim's rocking the Malcolm X cap. dang that was sooo1990's

  • wildcats was pretty fucking sweet back in the day. cutting school to buy comics and hang around the pizzeria playing street fighter 2 championship edition

  • fuck you dc is a big company

  • hey i though jim lee brazil husain obama. was north or south poor ricans.... whose going to free me from dc / antartica........ anime angkor......... extincted dinosours but we only know one King kong ending it takes a brondey girl 1984 cheerleader to free him or even see the robe play gang emu riders .......... there last final fantasy sad...........danny klap....... roof top snipers...... the last laugh

  • So he's why all the Xmen characters became a pack of pan-faced slanty-eyed lookin bastards! How much does Stan Lee owe him to date..

  • Its ashame that Marvel went into bank ruptcy shortly after this. Because of all of those "Editions"

  • 8.2 million copies, that's like 8/9 of Sweden would buy one copy.

  • @grejsancoprative Exuberant greed of non-comic book fan buyers who thought they were going to make themselves rich selling multiple copies of these comics including X-Men 1. The industry crashed shortly after this and Marvel filed for bankruptcy.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s First, without trying to sound like a bitch, but I don't know how that's related to what I wrote. And second, I did not know that Marvel went bankrupt. Sorry that I am not that educated but thank you because now I know.

  • @grejsancoprative The 8.2 million sales of X-Men 1 was extraordinary. This in itself would have been something special and gave legitimacy to the writing and artwork of X-Men 1. Unfortunately, during this time a small economic bubble occurred within the comic book industry and individuals were buying multiple copies of a first book in order to quickly sell them and make a quick profit. Therefore, we will never know how many copies of X-Men 1 would have been sold without the greed factor.

  • Jim Lee is good but there are many other, in our channel you can see some of the greatest like Esteban Maroto, artis for Vampirella and Red Sonja

  • @ArtPassword I agree, Jim Lee is a good artist. However, there are some extraordinary talented artists like Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo. Frank Frazetta sometimes rendered artwork for the comic magazine the " Savage Sword of Conan. "

  • i wonder what jim is working on.

  • Not all good artists get that kind of publicity, like the artists mentioned at the youtube site agunstreetgirl both those guys are promising talent.

  • anyone else cringe watching stan lee abuse the books at the beginning?

  • Not to be a prick, but X-Men1 only sold so many because of all the variants, which people thought would be worth a ton of money in the long run, but it was this way of producing sales that brought down the value of comics so much people (generally) were turned away from comics. The stories were awful, the interior art was generally bad, but they had plenty of foil covers. Jim Lee was pretty decent back in his day, i still like his work, but today i prefer McNiven, Quitely, Lienil Yu, etc.

  • @ATENakaATON X-Men 1 still would have sold 30 times as much as a top comic book today with one cover.

  • @TerryBogard675 comics aren't selling very well today. I'ev been told this by people who sell comics for a living. I think this is more of a testament to how much things have changed. Luckily though the glory days of comicdom may be coming back, fingers crossed. I just hope if they'er planning on making comics more adult, they actually cut down the cheese factor drastically, or else the targeted demographics lack on interest will bring another low for the industry in general like before.

  • @ATENakaATON I gave up on comics because it's the same sh*t over and over only dark and overpriced for the adults keeping the comic industry alive. The new stories are gimmicky crap that bring back characters from the dead. If a character dies he should stay dead. The only one that stays dead is Uncle Ben and who knows if he will be brought back in some gimmicky crap. Leave them dead and put that effort into creating a new character. Until then the comic industry is a joke.

  • @telewatcher89 I'm surprised it was only a couple months ago I typed that, it feels like years ago. I agree, with you. Generally speaking I only buy maybe 3 or 4 comics at the most a month which are brand new. Typically i just buy classics if i buy anything at all. Once I realized the once great current run on Daredevil and Thor sucked right after writer changes, Spiderman since the 80's has gone no where and any comic barely decent got at least 3 spin offs i gave up on the industry as a whole.

  • @ATENakaATON What runied comic books is comic stores. People were paying big bucks for old comics that their parents had thrown away and started seeing comics as an investment. Now a CS is the only place to get comics. But those old books were rare. Jim Lee's X-Men was good, but that multicover thing was just Marvel's way to cash in on the comic investment craze. I like X-Men vol 2, but you can find those #1's for 25 cents. I don't like how X-Men now is more like those mediocre at best movies.

  • @telewatcher89 you could also blame the fans, however Marvel and DC to a lesser degree, did try to cash in on the craze and produced some really awful comics just to get it done quickly since they knew they'd sell because of the craze and didn't worry about what that would cause in the long run.

  • @ATENakaATON That scenario would decribe the Clone Saga of the 90's and yes, some fans are part of the problem. Most fans nowdays want everything in a dark nior style like Batman, but not everything needs to be dark to be serious or somewhat realistic. Look at the Avengers, Quesada and Bendis ruined it by making in dark as well as making Scatlett Witch crazy. And they added Spider-Man and Wolverine to the team just to sell books to attract fans who only like those two characters. I just hate it.

  • Jim looks sooo different now!

  • steven mcniven is pretty good to... :D

  • im meant to be studying but i cant stop watching this mans art skills

  • Stan Lee's my dude but damn is he annoying

  • amazing artists!! =)

  • thayts kinda funny that jim sorta runs dc now lol

  • This was around the time X-MEN the Animated Series (based on Jim Lee's work) was either coming to Fox Kids or was already airing. Warranting the Malcolm "X" cap, I'd say 1992?

To me, Jim's version of X-MEN was classic. One of the best eras in comic history.

  • lol i love how stan talks smack aboot the other companies, and doesnt give a flying fuck who hears it! XD

  • We remember when this came out. Great stuff!

  • sweet

  • so cool

  • is it just me or is stan lee fuckin awesome

  • Two legends,

  • Jim Lee is GOD when it comes to drawing! Just read "Batman Hush"

  • ghlasdfgfsd

  • does anyboby know where to find the other volumes with will eisner and rob leifeld

  • @crazycomics I have all of them. I've already uploaded the Todd Mcfarlane one. I'll upload the rest later on.

  • @iDraw3G omg thanks so much, being completely honest right now you just made my day! :)

  • 8.2 million copies of one book is insane!

  • Jim Lee is the greatest comic book artist. for all of you comic book fans check out x men 275, the absolute best comic book ever featuring jim lee's art.

  • check out X-Men #11 too.

i still think it's the best X-Men art i've ever seen.

i think that run in early 1991 of X-Men #1 to #11 or so are just classic.

  • its funny that you mention that, because Marvel is selling a book with most of those issues you're talking about. i seen it in stores a few days ago.

  • @bdscavenger

That was definitely Lee's peak period as an artist, imo. I think his X-tinction Agenda work (UXmen 770-272) is his best art.

  • Stan keeps going to the page of Magneto.....hilarious!

  • What is Excelsior? Stan Lee said that on Robt Chicken, and now I see it here at the beginning of the video. What's it mean?!

  • thats his catchphrase so is nuff said

  • any one seen whu wunts to be a supahero?

  • think i watched the first season xD

  • Jim to me is the best penciler of all time. I remeber being enthrawled with X-Men 1. I poured over the pages wondering how this art could exist. Hes only gotten better over the years

  • @JacobEliRossSC Not of all time - what about Milton Caniff, Will Eisner, Jack Kirby, Hal Foster, Gil Kane etc? But he is great. One of the very best in comics today.

  • @amaxamon

Love all the guys you mentioned, except Eisner, never could get into the spirit, but In my opinion, Jim Lee draw circles around all of them.

  • @JacobEliRossSC you have to see Todd McFarlane's art, it blows my mind.

  • @JacobEliRossSC Jim to you is the best penciler of all time? Try looking up Brian Asher from Texas, an artist who slowly and tediously pencils realistic artwork of cowboy life.

  • they should make this show again

  • I had to laugh:

"They said, let's give people different versions, so they don't all have the same thing"

As if Comic companies don't produce multiple covers to sell more copies to the SAME people.

    That is just ridickiliss!

  • he said that was the point... "collectors see it is an investment to purchase several copies"

  • we, humans, are the gods of super heroes. we are the villains in real life.

  • i watched a documentary tht said tht in the nineties people collected multiple copies of the same comic book cos the thought they were worth thousands so comic companies printed out multiple copies. its the greed factor

  • Frkn greates dude ever in the comic ind.

  • OMG I was just thinking of these vids. I had them all when I was a kid. McFarland Liefeild Silvestri etc!!!

  • Jim Lee is great, he's one of the few popular "Image" era artists who actually knew how to draw really well.

  • oh man, this vid is like a geek's dream! whoever posted this is awesome

  • I liked Andy Kubert with Jim 2nd.

  • which is better.....hardware or punisher?

  • Jim Lee is a legend. Gen 13 and WildC.A.T.S. ftw!

  • I remember Jim Lee! I think i do lol yeah his work is amazing

  • what year was this made? it feels like it was made in the 80s

  • This would have been 1992, since X-Men #1 was released in late 1991. This was also right around the time Image Comics was being formed. WildC.A.T.S was released around August 1992.

  • Is X-Men #1 the first series that had Storm in the all series that spawned the kickass cartoon?

  • No. Storm is from the 80s and the cartoon has stores from the 60-90s.

Jim's book mae the cartoon big, and vise-versa.

  • Thank you deeply for posting this. It was a very well spent hour. I'm totally fascinated by this stuff.

Stan Lee is so enjoyable, the kinda guy you would love to work with.

And Jim, well, it's like a machine! Very impressive, and he's so young here...

  • i grew up watching spiderman on saturdays when stan lee would welcome the "true believers" i love stan lee, hope i can meet him one day, maybe get him to read one of my comic books lol omg i would plots lol

  • Jim Lee is the greatest comic book artist of all time. God bless you, Jim Lee. Thank you, Jim Lee.

  • are you serious? you need to get out more, stop being a follower

  • wow he got rejected by dc comics?

  • well my guess is tht up untill, jim lee and mckfarlin came in dc had the better artists. they already had decent to great artists on their work so they never needed him or any one. where as marvel artists were not always the best. plus at the time marvel wernt doing so well, they lost money and some stuff was getting cancelled so they needed artists and saw potential in him, liefeld and mackfarlin. those three i think realy braught marvel back up.

  • hmm ye he is amazing but i think it sold so muche Because it was a first edition

  • There is a difference in comic and graphic novel

  • Kiddie comics? Have you ever been to a comic book shop? Your Werhtam-esque way of thinking makes it seem as though you'restuck in the 1950's. FYI: Watchmen, A History of Violence, V for Vendetta, From Hell, Constantine (Hellblazer),Men in Black (although the films/cartoon show were kiddiefied), Road to Perdition, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, the Punisher, Sin City, 300, Ghost Rider and Blade for example were all comic books before they were films. I wouldn't consider them as "kiddie" at all.

  • Faaaaiiillllll~~

  • Nunca habia visto a Jim Lee a menos que fuera en fotos, ahora que lo veo, tiene la cara como si se la hubiese dibujado Andy Kubert XD

  • Not to be confused with Uncanny X men #1 which is worth a few grand and come out in

    '63.

  • my 2 biggest heros of all time :D

  • what's stan doing nowadays?

  • What year was this?

  • its 1990

  • I love that Stan has now idea what the hell he's doing with the whole poster bit.

  • so lets see,he sold over 8 million ,and thats a lot for comics, stan said 1 million was already quite much and nowadays ppl dont buy them as much as they did b4, so if i plan to get into comic bussines i cant expect much, unless maybe if i am a freaking good artist, but comics is not the same as b4, teens rather buy drugs

  • My goal for my Preview Issue of MockTales is to sell 100 copies next year. Definately a huge difference. Plus... I'm no Jim Lee. lol. But yeah, getting into the business isn't hard... just depends on what level you're shooting for. Good luck!

  • Wow, that's call, he has a Malcolm X hat, I bet another ode to someone with the same last name, lol.

  • I meant to say "that's cool" that Jim Lee is wearing a Malcolm X hat. I believe it was around this time when Spike Lee released Malcolm X biopic.

  • 3:30 to 3:38 lol at Stan Lee the smaller company.

  • i love the fucking "X," cap!!!!!!! Jim Lee your the man!

  • wats the x cap

  • I think he means his hat

  • but what is it whats x for like xmen

  • Nope. for malcom x i think

  • oh......

  • actually, I'm pretty sure that the X in Xmen is for the X in The Xavier Institute for Higher learning. wich i'm pretty sure is a school for mutants. I haven't read the comic so I'm not 100 percent positive that i'm right.

  • The X in X men originaly stood for extra ability. But the meaning has changed over the years

  • I believe "X" is used to represent the same as in methermatics- a variable; in this case, the variable genetic factors that gave the X-men their powers.

  • of course!

  • when was this vidio made?

  • 8.2 million WOW!

  • aye part of the speculator boom that nearly killed the american comic book industry.

can't blame jim lee for that though, he's still a good artist.

  • fuck that sounden crappy ilikebigbots!!! very low!!!

  • I truly believe that some people are born to draw. I'm one of them.

  • Show us your stuff, I'd like to see it.

  • im a good drawer but for this kind of art i was not born for it i had to work my ass of to get good at it

  • Who is Jack Kirby??? Somebody hurt this dude!!!

  • watch the KING OF COMICS biography on youtube to learn more about Jack Kirby.

  • Awesome, so you fall under all three categories? If you're so against people over the age of 16 reading comics then what the hell are you doing watching this video?

Instead of being a dick why don't you leave people alone and keep your idiot thoughts to yourself.

  • i love you jim lee

  • one of my favorite comic artits ever

  • I want to see pictures or videos of him as a teen,.,,.., every pic of vdeo i see of him, he looks the same besides the hair

  • I met Stan Lee at NY Comic Con. Was a great experience :)

  • thats sick :) i wanna meet him too!

  • Now now Brabon, I'll admit Stan's hogged the credit for quite a lot of things in his lifetime, The creation of the Marvel Universe for instance without very much mention of say Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and some others, Lee turning Jack Kirby's Silver Surfer from a godlike being of pure energy into a soliloquy spouting cosmic hippy however---

Well, Stan can be a nice guy in a sort of P.T. Barnum style, He reminds me of a comicbook dealer I know who will try to sell you Central Park with a smile.

  • of course he is nice...you would be nice too if you became a millionaire by making sure that you got the compensation for other's work...to this day, ditko hasnt received dollar one from the spidey franchise...kirby hasnt seen dollar one from anything (at least dc has been relatively generous in regards to his 4th world creations) i cried when kirby died...i wont shed a tear for lee

  • if you are a brunette with big tits, ill take you up on that offer

  • You are the LUCKEST person on the planet!

  • marvek have more success due to the fact that they have a main figure of Marvel. They also listen to the fan mail etc.

  • marvek have more success due to the fact that they have a main figure of Marvel. They also listen to the fan mail etc.

  • I do love Stan, though. The best editor and best script-writer for comics. But not THE IDEA MAN. He got most of the ORIGINAL ideas from the artists... usually KIRBY. Stan is a hambone and lots of fun but he seriously overstates his CREATIVE ROLE in so far as the conception of NEW CHARACTERS. His style of writing was revolutionary but without the artists, he would have had nothing to write. NO JACK... NO STAN OR MARVEL. NO MARVEL... D.C. probably has a thousand more characters from Jack.

  • how do you know he overstates his role

  • A good example would be all the early Marvel compilations such as 'Origins' only say 'BY STAN LEE'. That is an insult and a LIE. One must assume that Marvel did not want to have to pay more to other creators, LIKE JACK. Marvel is a disgrace for the way they treated Kirby. They even tried to STEAL his original art. In fact, considering how much went 'missing', 'somebody' stole quite a bit. Stan, NATURALLY, did not come to Jack's defense. Stan is a company man. A CORPORATE MAN. Jack was REAL.

  • ya, well, being a company man didnt stop lee from suing marvel for his share of the spidey franchise...a share that shouldve been given to ditko...fyi, at the time of the original settlement, when jack finally got his original art back, stan was just a figurehead, the company was being run by jim shooter...who finally got his own comeuppance when he was ousted from valiant

  • but stan lee gave ditko co creation credit on the spiderman movies, probably making him lots of cash. and remeber ditko can be a real prickly pear who rubs people up the wrong way.

  • i now understand your confusion...stan lee no longer runs marvel or marvel entertainment, so it was not he, but marvel entertainment that credited ditko with spidey on the movies...however, no compensation was paid to ditko...and i dont care if ditko is a recluse, it is his creation and he should receive compensation

  • sorry if i came on too hard for ditko, i love ditko. but even you have to admit hes a little nuts. he is a genius but hes eccentric. Plus stan lee created and co created basically all marvels back catalogue of greats.

  • stan lee still denies ditko he wants all the credit for spidey wen actually all he basically did was the basic story and ditko did the rest

  • and the duologue

  • ever read lee's original dialogue?

check out the stuff he had the hulk say

  • jim lee has the most flawless artwork i have ever seen. the best then and now in my opinoin. i'll buy anything he's on.

  • i like stan!

  • if Stan Lee is to Marvel, who is the main figure behind D.C. Comics?

  • jack kirby

  • Thanks

  • To JRock: I'm not sure if BIGBRADY knew he was lying to you or not, but Jack Kirby is not the main figure behind DC. Jack Kirby is best known for his artwork for Marvel. I guess if DC had a "main figure," it would be it's founder, Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson.

  • Come to think of it, all my life I haven't heard of one single central figure for D.C. Comics. No one like Stan [A.K.A. Mr. Marvel]

  • JACK KIRBY is the true main figure for Marvel. If you think Kirby was just drawing Stan's ideas you need to look at the facts. Kirby saved Marvel. Kirby joins Marvel and shortly after, they have a thousand new and inventive characters. Kirby leaves Marvel and creates an entire universe of characters for D.C., many of which are still huge. Stan, at this time, QUITS WRITING. Jack comes back to Marvel and creates more characters that are still quite big. The facts are undeniable.

  • Well I could care less about anyone else. Stan made most of the characters and/or super teams that I still like today Spiderman, Hulk, X-Men, and Ironman only to name a few.

  • Stan did a GREAT job of writing DIALOGUE for characters that JACK KIRBY CREATED, like THE X-MEN (including MAGNETO), IRON-MAN, THE HULK, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA(created BEFORE STAN LEE EVEN HAD A JOB), The Black Panther, The Fantastic Four, The Avengers and THE SILVER SURFER(INDISPUTABLY CREATED BY JACK) to name A FRACTION of the KING'S OUTPUT! You know who FIRST called JACK KIRBY 'THE KING'? IT WAS STAN LEE!!! I love Stan Lee also but the facts remain... JACK KIRBY MADE MARVEL! 'NUFF SAID!'

  • who is jack kirby?

  • He's the guy who made Marvel before Stan Lee had a job with Captain America then came back and SAVED Marvel and Stan Lee in the early 60's creating, co-creating or co-designing every great character they now make billions off of. That is why Stan Lee calls him THE KING OF COMICS!

  • DC will always be below Marvel just like Mr.Lee said lol

  • Stan loks young. When was this video made?
