  • remember Lefty is a right handed killer.. lefty vs lefty = skilled willdetermine the winner

  • that hair will impede their vision / movement

  • Wow? Nice duel.

  • that one guy looks like terrance howard

  • @allshallbelosttoyou Just like Terrance Howard, too. Except white. And as of 2:05, dead.

  • Left handers have a 1 in 3 chance of being alcoholics......maybe cause the the world is against them?

  • just wasted 2:07 of my life

  • Somehow I new the left-handed swordsman would win. They're some of the best!

  • @Bladepaw18 or us right handers just aren't used to fencing them.

  • @Slypaperclips Sure if you want to look at it that way. lol

  • @Bladepaw18 and freaking hard to block (i am a lefty and it is so wierd facing off with a fellow lefty...its just wierd)

  • @lebrosky

The majority of smallswords did not have an edge, but many did.

And as Tehoennake says, with the proper measure (i.e. just the right distance), unconventional attacks with the tip can be successful.

European sword technique emphasises measure as a principal skill.

  • Not imagine. A Foil is about 3 feet.. Best to you.

    Rto

  • I think the fencing in this scene is some of the best I have ever seen on film and the progress of the fight extremely realistic.

  • First tie back your hair. Then remember that nobody uses the edge on a court sword. Then perhaps start duel.

  • @lebarosky yes the edge of a small sword does not cut, but the tip does. they both were using thrust attacks and cutting with the tip, proper distance and whatnot

  • @lebarosky : There was a pretty big variety of blade-cross sections on smallswords of the period, and while the edge was certainly secondary to the point, that did not mean that none had cutting edges! It can also be much faster to go from a parried thrust to an attack with the edge to the arm with a simple wrist movement than to pull back the whole arm for another thrust. As Silver said, "There is no perfect combat without both thrust and cut." Both have a place and time.

  • A duel with swords certainly took some courage

  • @Grensoorlog you think more courage than duel with pistols? I rather dule with swords than with pistols that age.

  • I love Queen Margo, but - Alas! - poor Patrice Chéreau! - what a blunder: right after Annibale Coconnasso gets his blow in the forehead and falls, the next frame shows him without blood. Otherwise, Queen Margo is perfect. But in Sluga Gosudarev there are no blunders. Miraveiglioso. Magnifico.

  • Remarcably good staged duel. Looking more real than even in some of the best French movies. Surprise - I am Francoman.

  • Is there an English dub for this film?

  • how uncomforable! fighting with those big wigs and gloves!!

  • wigs they could do without but the gloves do have a purpose after a your hand would get sweaty and u'd loose ure grip

  • Must everyone look so bloody gay?

  • @krashly71 It's the f*cking early 1700's ofcourse it was normal back then.

  • @Mark123USA Nooooo, its just DEPICTION of the 1700s, I imagine this style of dress was present but not dominant. Either way it is very gay. I would think for a duel the wigs would be removed.

  • @krashly71 Oh you hillbilly, this was the dominant style of late 1600s and early 1700s.

  • @krashly71 Amongst nobility of course, the less well off people wore simpler clothing and no wigs.

  • @krashly71 well, even in war they wear wigs.

  • @krashly71 of course!

  • @krashly71 Just wondering....so all I need to do to make a bar fight into a duel like this is wear a wig and dress like a popinjay? All that makes a brawler into a gentleman is a Winona Judd wig?

  • Excellent.

  • i love this movie :) and iam from sweden

  • Awesome sword fight- while watching, all the guys reminding me of capt Hook(1991) with their Frock coats, maraboa feather trimed tricorns and wigs etc.

These types of duels ( colonial/ renaissance ) are my favorite

    I agree with fulsomstryk

  • As a swede, I think it would be fun to see this film. Where can I download it?
