  • thanks pixar...assholes'

  • THANK GOD!!! finally, the ORIGINAL theme song!! :D so so so so so HAPPY! Thank you!

  • This dub is perfect and her voice is so much sweeter than the horrid disney dub. I adore this version.

  • The Japanese version of this song is so much better than the English. Juss sayin

  • @pupup5678 I agree, the Japanese version is much much better.

  • damn, it' english dubbed -.-'

  • This version of the song is perfect; the new one destroyed my childhood in fact when I downloaded the new one I cried because Disney fucked it up. can anyone help in find the ORIGNAL English dub?

  • Ah... so nostalgic. Reminds me of the simple times. <3

  • Yay this is the one I grew up with c: not the stupid Disney version -:U

  • Uh. This is the original intro... The Disney intro sounds like the bitch is yelling at you

  • @gob814 just because you said that i wanted to hear the disney ver. lol

  • when i was a kid, about 3 or 4, i woldnt sleep onless my mom sang wiht to me :3

    childhood!

  • The original japanese opening song is way better. This one sucks balls in hell... thank you Disney, but sometimes you just try too hard.

  • @chiavone84 This isn't the Disney version, it's an earlier English dub.

  • @Athnar93 This version, no matter the origin, is horrible, despicable and useless. And the Japanese version is been censored on youtube by copyretard from Ghibli...

  • you should upload the movie, don't call it totoro, and say no copyright infringement intended

  • I agree that Disney didn't have to redo this, but I don't have any problems with the remake, I like it just as much.

  • C'mon people, Disney is accountable for some tawdy dubbing and some miscast, but it hasn't done anything worthy of hating Disney for marketing Ghibli film (and no, Disney does not claim it as its own, all of those trailers explicitly credit Studio Ghibli and Hayao).

Also, Hayao made an agreement with Disney, he's friends with a producer from Disney who is an enthusiastic fan of his. If we are hating Disney dubs, then by extension, we're hating Hayao and not knowing it.

  • People are saying that Disney ruined it..

well yes they ruined the most of it (though I don't mind this opening..wait don't shoot)

but you probably would have never known about it if you Disney didn't buy the rights to it and promote it

  • @KingdomDoubled I don't know about everyone else, but I had this on VHS as a kid, and I must have watched it a hundred times. I didn't even know Disney bought it until I started looking for a DVD version a year ago. So yes, I did know about this without Disney promoting it, and yes, Disney did ruin it. They kinda had to, though, because they couldn't buy the voice audio of the movie, and thee voice actor of Satsuki had already died in a car accident. That made me sad.

  • NO. why does Disney have to ruin EVERYTHING?

  • it makes me big energy!

  • i want to download this song RIGHT NOW. i can't find it on itunes :(

  • @itsalliebabes use zamzar ;p just need the vids url

  • @itsalliebabes

    Try Media Converter.

  • i am so happy i found this.. memories!!!!

  • loved this film,

  • 25 people have no soul

  • I have the movie for VHS X3

  • @Muchi134 Me too!!! LOL! We are old farts!

  • I wish I could have grown up with this movie, to bad I saw it for the first time when I was 13 TT. TT, but hey that means I can give my kids a Totoro Childhood! In fact when I have a kid I'm gonna make their Nursery Totoro themed, no matter what my future husband says.

  • @yotsubafanfan I got to grow up with this movie, and it was amazing. It came out shortly before I was born, and when I was little, everytime we went to rent a movie, I'd pick out Totoro.

  • WHERE THE HELL IS THE JAPANESE VERSION?

  • Been a while since ive seen this.

  • I remember when I was a kid I was scared of the spider popping out at the end. XD

  • @WhiteroseOtaku Me too! D:

  • this makes me so happy

  • I think it's safe to say that the Fox version of this movie is a million times better than the Disney version.

  • WHERE THE HELL IS THE JAPANESE VERSION?

  • OH, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'VE MISSED THE ORIGINAL SO MUCH. I hate the new Totoro dub so much. In the new one the lady who sings plays with her voice too much in all the wrong places. Why couldn't they just remaster the dub they already had?!

  • @realAniram It's because Disney has a bunch of stoopnagals in charge of things. :P

  • Ready set, let's... GO!

  • Ok, I added this one for Jayden, as he LOVES Totoro!!! Ok, I do too, jeesh!

  • I'm really going to miss having this on VHS ;(

I rented the dvd about a year ago and they took the voice of the cat bus out.

  • I don't remember a difference between the older version and the new. can someone give me a link for the two?

  • Ever since I was 7 I loved this song.

I can safely say Disney killed it dead.

But I'm curious why they dubbed it twice, they did that to Nausicaa and Laputa too (but the Disney dubs were actually good for those).

  • Wow looking at all these comments i feel really lucky my mom got the original dub on video when i was younger. I still have it too. i uesd to sing this song all the time when i was little. we were watching the japenese dub in japanese class today which made me think about this

  • english version, seriously?

  • SO much better than the Disney re-dub.

How could they think they did well re-dubbing an already great movie?

  • The Disney opening sounds like she is yelling at you to "HEY LETS GO" and I always say " no I don't want to go with you crazy lady" the older one makes me all happy and soothed and I want to go on an adventure with the nice lady.

  • @Jiinxycat- I agree. The Disney version song is so unpleasant. >_O

  • @Jiinxycat LoL totally agree! This original singer has a prettier voice!

  • What really stinks is the voice actor of satsuki in the original streamline dub died and it sticks because everything she dubbed is extremely hard to find and it is mostly because Disney had to stick their noses in something that was already good to begin with and destroyed it. Kiki's delivery service was well re dubbed but I would at least like credit to go where credit is due like having both versions on the dvd but they play it off as if their is no other version better then theirs.

  • @Jiinxycat I agree! Rest in peace Lisa. :'(

  • How can you not ove this anime?

  • What's the Disney version like then? Don't worry, I do love this one and of course, the Japanese original.

  • Omg I love this movie!!!!

  • A million time's better than the alternative opening.

  • Disney should have never touched this movie, they bought the rights from 20th century fox, why couldn't they just stick this on DVD instead of using horrible re-dubs and ruining a few child hoods in the process. When I have children this is the version they will watch.

  • @PerkyVampire Agreed, totally

  • @PerkyVampire While I agree this version is superior, I don't think Disney did a bad job (though it admittedly isn't as good as a lot of Disney's other Ghibli dubs). But they legally weren't allowed to use this dub.

  • @PerkyVampire but disney trys to get his hand on antyhing that appeals to kids, witch ruined EVEYTHIGN

  • @PerkyVampire Were there big differences in the movie? It sounds a little different.

  • @PerkyVampire I know right? I hate the Disney version of this movie.

  • @PerkyVampire While I agree that the Disney dub isn't as good as the one Fox used, I don't think it exactly ruined any childhoods. And besides, Disney wouldn't have been able to use that dub because it's property of Fox and not them.

  • This version blows away Disney's re-dub of the movie. The VAs were great, this rendition of the song was great, the Fanning sisters really murdered my childhood in the re-dub, I mean literally murdered it because for a span of 5 years all I did in my free time was watch the same movies over and over and my favorite one was My Neighbor Totoro.

  • CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME WHO SANG THIS VERSION!!!!!!!!! the Disney version sucks so bad. This is my favorite. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Is this the Fox version?

  • @stripperella1sthubb Yeah. I like the Disney one better, a lot more energy in it.

  • this movie is so cute I can't help but too fall in love with it.

  • this is nice

  • "散步": "Sampo"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the romanization in Hokkien and not Japanese?

  • When I get married, this is the walk-out song (end of ceremony)

  • @Zombreecakes you are so super awesome!

  • The Disney version sucks so much! The voices did NOT! I repeat NOT match the characters.

I always will cherish Mai as the sweet innocent girl that sounds like Angelica Pickles <3

  • @Garvorious .... oh my god she does

  • @Zombreecakes Well it's the voice actress that plays Angelica so yeah xD

  • I love this english version of the song, because it sounds so sweet and melodic, with the way the lady sings it. The disney version with Sonya Isaacs is just...meh. She sounds more like she's shouting the words and with way too much power, and not enough feeling. The one here, is very kind sounding and compliments the music well.

  • I can't stand the english version both of them after first watching the original version. another thing is what do fox's and badgers have to do with totoro anyway? I don't ever recall seeing any badgers or foxes in totoro? :S

  • Pixar can kiss Totoro's big furry butt!

  • Hate the Disney one. This is my childhood and I cry every time!! Where can I buy this version? We watched it so many times now it doesn't work :(

  • This is Tiffany's childhood ..^^

  • My favorite is the non Disney English version. Simply because it's the first version I saw. That and Disney sucks donkey.

  • Who ever fucked the voices should be in Jail

  • I prefer the dub, say what you want about it getting a nostalgia pass from me but at least I'm civil enough to state my opinion as an opinion.

  • Omg! I used to watch this movie when I was really really little, it was my fav! :D

  • @dunestar29 same here i hate the remake though

  • The Japanese Disney DVD didn't use the new Disney dub since the DVD is made in 2003 and the Disney dub is made in 2005.

  • The Fox DVD has no Japanese audio track, and is non-anamorphic, when you want a DVD with the Troma dub and Japanese versions, and anamorphic video, import the Japanese Disney DVD.

  • English sucks.... Japanese ALOT better

  • It's good that Disney made Ghibli more popular but they need to stop with the star studded line-up.. really, they need to let unknown voice actors get their break..

  • @ChibiRobo13 Think about it, who would you rather employ? Established actors or a bunch of no-bodies who would probably butcher the role they're given? Think about it.

  • @Bloodfont89 Yeah but they're called talent scouts. And interviews. And test runs. Nothing can stop an employer from testing out an actor's skills before they hire them. Just because they're nobodies doesn't mean they can't have talent.

  • @ChibiRobo13 True, take Anna Paquin for example.

She started acting in the movie The Piano, never acted before that, and was nominated for an Academy Award.

  • @ChibiRobo13 That and relatives of stars too.

  • 永遠の名曲。言葉にできない素晴らしさ。

  • When I was younger I used to watch the DVD for 23 times a day xD

  • On my school's bus trip to the Tanken center, we watched this with subs. So fun, fond memories. The three hour drive felt like a 3 second drive, and this dvd made it feel muuuch shorter.

  • Unlike you lucky people who got to see this when you were kids I saw this movie for the first time when I was 13. TT . TT

  • I HATE THE DUB

  • This was the first movie I ever watched in my life, however, I watched it in Japanese.

Hence the whole, speaking Japanese thing.

And you know what? I don't mind the Disney dub.

  • Yeah, How dare disney pump a lot of money to into Ghibli films and help make Hayao Miyazaki a world Icon! And helped him be the first Japanese director to win an oscar!!!! .....wait

Seriously, shut up, I dont get whats so bad about the dub, other than weeaboos seein "Dakota Fanning" and gettin butthurt, or just thinkin "all dubs suck. Admittedly I prefer this movie in Japanese, but the dub isnt bad

And Im sure Disney was part of your childhoods long before Miyazaki was

  • @NaSandJayZ Dakota Fanning is awful in any and every universe.

  • @CanYouSpellBanana The fact she had to replace Daveigh Chase in Lilo and Stitch 2 also really bugs me, sure Dakota and Daveigh are friends but Daveigh IS Lilo. Plus that she had to be a part of that unsuperior version of Charlotte's Web.

  • @NaSandJayZ It's not that I hate all dubs by Disney. I actually like many of the dubs that Disney had made of the Ghibli films. I absolutely love the Streamline dub of Totoro. I can't stand the disney dub of Totoro mainly for the fact that the singer there sings with far too much power, and doesn't seem to follow the music and medley. That and the voices seemed to be rather uninterested and bored. And the dubbing was so hashed together it was pretty painful. I hated it for lack of effort.

  • The Studio Ghibli films are all beautiful and Disney has to ruin all of them! :'(

  • I like the english version :c

  • Ah I love this movie. Saw it when I was 3 and I stilll love it

  • Ah childhood!

    I want mine back!

  • @newmoondrop true that

  • i liek the singer but to be frank i liked disney's actors

i was there was a combo version with this singers talent and disneys acting :P

    so a fox disney collaberation?

  • ゲジゲジ・蜘蛛・かえる・蛾・とかげ・芋虫……。決して気持ちの良い生き物ではないのですが、宮崎さんらしくて楽しいですね。

  • hee hee I first saw this when I was like 4.....10 years later and I still love it the same :3

  • Awesomeness :D

  • I'm going to upload the FOX dub on youtube hopefully I will stay their like my ponyo movie but I can't guarantee anything

  • I wanna see the whole thing! My friend owns the english DVD, but I haven't been able to see it and I wanna see it all! Does anyone have a link or know a list of videos that have the whole movie? I would rather see the old one and language doesn't matter.

  • I love this song :D

The new Disney version kills me inside a little

I even stopped the movie once because I said Dakota Fanning

She's such an annoying person XD

  • This is...this is the original opening song ;-; -sniff- I'm so happy. I watched the original VHS version so many times when I was young, I can still hear hte original voices and original script in my head. It's much better than the newer version. Less high pitched and headache causing. T^T thank you for posting this.

  • ok i saw this movie when i was about three years old. i am now mineteen and still love to watch this. my twenty one year old girlfreind sat down and watched this with me and she loves it! i love his movie beacuse there is NO evil in it. it shows the innocense of youth. and plus no one on here cant tell me they cant smile when they here this! any one know where i can download this version? after watching the disney version i died a little inside.....

  • this is less screamy than the other version posted on youtube - but no wonder my son does not want to ever hear the soundtrack in English. Ew. :)

  • WHY ENGLISH VOICES ???? It sucks, where is original japanese opening ?!

  • Yaaaaay!!! The non-Disney version!!!!

  • TOTORO U ARE THE MAN !

  • omg whats this dub?

  • No, there are two different dubs. This is the original VHS dub. Other ones (Like the DVD version) are a newer dub.

  • @Macedragon37 why was it redubbed why whould they do something so stupid and waste there time

  • For SOME reason they decided not to keep making the VHS of the original english dub. The original is on the VHS version. They then found (for some reason) that putting f****** Dakota Fanning in would somehow make the movie more relatable(sp?) and decided that changing the words and getting new voice actors would be better. My family ACCIDENTALLY bought the DVD unknowing of this, at which point we turned the movie off in the first minute. The original dub has the script unchanged, and better.

  • @Macedragon37 I have a DVD version with the original voice English voice acting o_O

  • @Macedragon37 The same thing happened to me!

My mom accidently bought that version, except she said it "Wasn't THAT bad"

    I hope she was joking.

  • @Macedragon37 There's actually a DVD of the original Streamline VHS dub as released by Fox. I have the DVD, in fact. I was so put off by the re-dubbed English opening for the Disney release when I first heard it because the Streamline version is the only one I've heard for years.

  • its like- an adventure!!! an awesome awesome adventure!

  • her voice is much softer than the disney version and fits more to the japanese original

but i still like the japanese version better, these english lyrics take out some of the weird Japanese singing style (espacially the ready set go doesnt fit to well for my ears)

  • brings back some good memories

  • eeeww Japanese is the BEST no doubt!

  • Hah, did anyone notice the refrence to this song in Ponyo? Sosuke's mom randomly said "I'm happy as can be!" at one point in the movie.

  • Yeah, that was funny when she said that :D

  • Doesn't matter who who disney picks in the version. It can't BEGIN to compare to the original

  • Who sings this version of 'Hey Let's Go?' D:

I love this version <3 It sounds exactly the same as I used to remember it when I was little~

  • @harukogreed ya i was wondering too. the new version with dakota fanning and elle sounds like shit.

  • I looked up the movie on Wikipedia, and this version was sung by Azumi Inoue.

  • Yes! This is the one I remember :)

  • I sing this song every time someone say "Ready to go?" or "Lets go."

  • I like the japanese one better

  • This version is awesome the new one sucks on a whole new level man old school is way better

  • I totally agree! CLASSIC! Im 16 and still in love with this movie

  • Damn this song is awesome! The 90's Totoro dub was amazing!

  • I have always heard the Disney dub, and I wish I could hear the orignal English version to compare the two. I hear that so-and-so version is better, but I always watch it in Japanese =D

  • best movie ever!

  • HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT!!!! this version is by far the best

  • Comment removed

  • @punkjl Though I do not agree with it, I accept your opinion.

You also make me want to stab something :D

  • Oh shit! Don't let the giant spider get you!! XD

  • I loved this movie when i was 9 years old, Now I still do, bring back memories and always make me feel so ..free of worries and just very happy watching this.

  • The Disney opening is sooooo bad. Everytime I see Dakota Fanning's name on the credit list I die a little inside.

  • That is the funniest comment..LMAO but yes I like the original Japanese song better ^_^

  • @Jenny11209

OMG! YOU TOO?! I DIED LAST NIGHT ON THE INSIDE! THEY MESSED UP SO BADLY! T^T I love the VHS better! They made the kids sound weird, Totoro all wrong and the cat bus! *growls*

  • @Jenny11209 thank you. I love you now. I have to watch it in japanese whenever I watch it now

  • @Jenny11209 I'm not a fan of her, but I think she did good in this film.

  • @Jenny11209 Me Tooooo Disney Destroyed This Movie i Like This Version Wayyyyyy Better

  • @Jenny11209

    AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I like you!

  • @Jenny11209 everytime Dakota Fannings name comes up a kitten dies

  • @Jenny11209 I actually prefer Disney over Fox.

  • @Jenny11209 THUMBSUPTHUMBSUPTHUMBSUP

  • @Jenny11209 me too :( this version was even better then the freaken japanise version lol.

  • @Jenny11209 HEY dont did lea salonga lol
