Normally I switch over to a Ddrt system when I get to the top. If I descend I will normally use a rack and on a long descent I back it up with a friction hitch. I find the grigri to be very jerky
@joshuarugg I SRT with a handled ascender and the Petzl Rig, RAD style . It's pretty fast going up - a good bit faster than the foot-lockers that I see working around town (not in competitive climbing, though) and I find that once I am up toward the top-center of the tree, I can just lose the ascender and pulley, and navigate with the Rig, all SRT. There is no way I would characterize Ddrt climbing as "way faster."
Pantin on one foot, croll at my waist and cmi expedition handled ascender with a strap to my other foot. I have since changed to an integrated croll/suspender for SRT. Check my other SRT vids, not as clear but the system is dialed in better
Good vid. I like using a double ascender with a croll and just footlock up the tree. Avoids having to carry around any gear that you use for your feet once you are in the tree. Bu hey, you say tomato and I say patato.... wait?
I've been trying to figure out which hand to by the ascender for. So if you are right handed, you use the ascender with your left hand, so need a left handed ascender?
theres 3 ascenders in the system, the top one is a cmi expedition and has a foot loop to my left foot, youll notice my left foot goes up at the same time as my hands. the middle one is a petzl croll at waist level and a petzl pantin on my right foot. the first 2 are also connected to my saddle. this is called the tree frog system. i now have a suspender with a built in croll thats much nicer. ill geta vid one of these days
what do you use for descending? is it possible to use a grigri on srt?

footlock is bad for the rope and is for lazybones...better use double loep 2 ropes in case you want to break your neck and just use one rope....
Oldfrisian 1 year ago
footlocking is way faster and is less gear to bring up with you. plus it's easier to switch to drt when you get up there
joshuarugg 1 year ago
@joshuarugg Correct, but you can SRT for much longer distances before getting tired

Are you left handed, or right handed?

mostly right

I've been trying to figure out which hand to by the ascender for. So if you are right handed, you use the ascender with your left hand, so need a left handed ascender?
rcnorris 3 years ago
actually i use both, my left hand in the ascender and my right on the top side, its quite comfortable for both hands

Thanks! Very educational video, wish there were more like it.
