Just a point to the analysis of Michael Shermers hand writing and the comment about the good communicator. Being flattered tends to mute the critical instincts a bit. I am not finding fault. Just pointing out that he is a good communicator seems fitting, he is, look at the work that he does. But think about it, the person read a page of his writing. My assumption is the evidence for that was in the paragraphs he wrote, and not in the style of the writing of the letters. Kind of obvious.

I tried some graphology that I read in the bookstore on one of my friends back in college. I took his notebook and told him what I thought his personality was based on his handwriting. I'd have to say he was surprised that I described him spot on.

I guess graphologists have never heard of self-fulfilling prophecies. If you tell a teacher that a student is gifted then that student will do well, if you tell a teacher that a student is a trouble maker then that student will do poorly, all regardless of what the student is really like. That's because the teacher's expectation alters their treatment of the student. Same thing with graphology. If you have preconceived notions about someone, you'll treat them in a way that elicits that response.

Graphology is not a "pseudo-science." The way a person writes expresses a great deal about the person because our handwriting is being dictated by our brains. If your hands were amputated and you had to write with a pen in your teeth you would attempt the same kind of writing as you did with your hands ... the shape, size, slant, etc.

We all have different sizes of hands.. we all have different ways of holding a pencil.. some people like to write neater because they see it as visually appealing, but that doesn't really show anything about their personality. Some people don't really care about neatness and write sloppily, but again that doesn't really show anything about personality. It's no different than astrology.

Sloppiness could mean tiredness or stress. Astrology shouldnt be tested by people who aren't intact with their emotions and general intuition. For me, I write many different ways, sometimes slanted to the right, sometimes slanted to the left.. sometimes I write small, sometimes big, etc. My handwriting never looks the same twice. So if I gave that woman 3 or 4 samples of my handwriting, they will all come up as different personalities. lol

The only human emotion that would stem from that is frustration or sadness because that person cant write anymore. I can see some merit in graphology, but with something as dynamic as cognition and emotion, it's dangerous to begin to rely on something so ambiguous. I don't find it too difficult to believe that a person's personality can be expressed through the style of their writing. It is a form of communication and many of the same emotions go through us when we write just as we speak.

Even if it is valid, it should be used as a low-priority supplement to more comprehensive psychoanalyses.

She describes him perfectly. He is a man of action, he submitted his hand writing and he does all investigations. That is action. She said he is intuitive. I saw Michael Shermer in a documentary about reincarnation (I can't remember the name of it). He and a doctor lady were saying that we pass through this life once and then just rot. By the end of the documentary, with the evidence presented, his opinions sounded ignorant. I don't really like the guy, but he's free to his opinions.

Graphology sounds just as daft as phrenology (the discredited "science" of judging someone's personality traits by the shape of their skull). At the age of 8 I learned cursive script handwriting. I wrote in this style for four years until we were taught a different style of handwriting. The second style looked more legible and quicker to write, so I adopted that. Handwriting also depends on the situation: hasty scrawl for university lecture notes, neat and legible for a letter to a friend.

The 'scrawl' arrives on your sheet of paper via your nervous system. Legibility is honesty, slow v. neat writing is either not very bright, or a a cover, context is important. Low std of writing leans to the negative aspects (illegible, slow, scrawl), high form std (legible, fast, clever connections) leans to positive aspects attributed to the writer. have fun, people are interesting & their writing is just a photo graph of their minds... it's real, and fun!

Graphology is just like psychic "readings" and horrorscopes. The characteristics described apply to ANYBODY. We are all the same species with the same wants,fears,and emotions. Any method/art that tries to study human behaviors has certain percentage of accuracy. We can not put persons in specific fixed categories. Rorschach projective inkblot test, Enneagram, Myers-Briggs Indicator, Graphology & analysis of drawings, Psychometry, Facereading, Herrmann Brain Dominance Indicator, Luscher color preference test and other scales/arts/tests are just tries to understand human behaviors. I believe that these tries are not sciences or pseudoscience but they are philosophies!!

Great Video. I think that when people rate her analysis as "highly accurate" it is probably little more than the Forer Effect.

Even the "negative" comments about Dr. Shermer's supposed personality traits could still be perceived as positive.....it sounds very much like an astrological "reading".

The upper zone is to do with eggs - how many you eat, how you like them, where you buy your eggs. The middle zone is allergies, what you're allergic to and how strong the allergy is. The lower zone is socks - and can indicate colour, size, even type of material. And I back this up with the evidence that you cannot disprove it, and we don't know everything about the world.
