It's amazing how Benjamin Gibbard can write such incredibly beautiful, accurate and comforting words about just about any kind of end of a relationship. I've recently gone through some hardship myself and this song basically describes the overall feelings between both parties perfectly.

Man... years ago, I wrote a melody very similar to this one. Just a melody. No matter how much I toyed with it, I couldn't think of a good context for it. But Ben Gibbard... in a rained-out car, between two distance-torn lovers, this melody makes so much sense. This song is absolutely perfect.
