  • This video looks fake.

  • @DanielsSFD Fake? WTF! I shot this video myself.

  • @Pimpala03

Im not calling you a liar. I just said it looks fake. The white ring around it threw me off.

  • @DanielsSFD It's real... if you want to see for youself just drive down US 49 between Jackson MS and McGee MS

  • @Pimpala03

Is it like white LEDs aroung the light or what?

  • The flashing strobe is to aid those who are blind and colorblind to realize that the light is red.

  • they use this on highways in my area to make sure you know it's red.

  • this is not opticom it's just an attention grabber the flashing light says stop dip shit opticom uses a white flood light and the emergency vehicle emits a visible or in some cases invisible infared light. i see how it could be mistaken fo a premption device though

  • And agh, someone did it before me. Sorry bout that.

And I didn't mean to sound like an ass.

  • no its just there to get your attention

  • over here where i live there is a bright xenon strobers on an intersection when you get off the 202 to some street (i forgot) at night.

  • Half of you guys are wrong about this light. These "strobe" lights were originally intended so that you notice the red light. The reason for that is because in some places you might go a while with out seeing a traffic light or it might be a new light or it might be in a bad intersection where you normally cant see the light very well. Its just the to say "HEY YOU MORON STOP!" Pimpala you must have taken this in an area that didnt have many traffic lights

  • makes sense. I almost ran one of these because I had mistaken it for a street light from afar.

  • I think they're used to get your attention so that you'll see that the light is red so you'll stop.

  • Very cool I just saw one in Vestal NY

  • I've been wondering about this. There are street lights in my area that flash like that, but instead of around the outside of the circle, it flashes as a straight line through the middle horizontally. It's like a camera flash or a strobe light. I can't for the life of me figure out what it's for. It's at an ordinary intersection with ordinary street lights. The green and yellow are normal, only the red blinks... Very brightly too. What's the point?

  • Sounds like the one I seen in Yonkers, NY I thought it was pretty odd because the traffice lights are at every intersection but I think they did it because the street is so wide for normal two lane roads i guess they wanted people to know

  • Cool looking traffic lights.

  • Where was this taken? I saw something similar a year ago on Route 501 near Myrtle Beach, SC

  • Those are LEDS. The flash duration is too long to be a xenon tube.

  • Many of our interesections have white lights similar to that, for a preemption system. For some reason, it's only used for the FD, not police. Police still have to stop completely, get everyone else to stop, then continue on.

No emergency vehicles seemed to have passed in that amount of time, so it could be just to get people's attention. Our traffic lights are REALLY bright around here, so we don't need something like that.

  • Around here, we use flashing white lights for people colorblind to reds, oranges, and yellows so they know when there's a red light. This might be what it's used for?

  • ALSOOOOO (from above) Strobes are generally not mounted in stationary situations since they have been known to trigger seizures in persons with Epilepsy. When mounted on vehicles, the strobes must be programed in a frequency that is less likely to cause seizures within a set period of seconds.

  • Wow, all this over a light. I have no idea what purpose it may serve, but lights are definatel used to draw attention, so we all agree on that. I do know it is not a strobe of any type, as it is not a mili-second flash, is far to slow, and dim to be strobe.

  • The flashing light is to get your attention and they usually use them on dangerous intersections. This is the newer one with LED's and is REALLY bright. I have one of these on one of the traffic lights in my collection.

  • do a search for elliottequipment dot com then look at the barlo signal head

Take a close look at this, and try not to let your lips outrun your finger as you sound out the words, especially the big words like 'incandescent' and 'high voltage strobe tube'

    Jeez...

  • look at

    unilights com specifications products hvrb12

    it has to be it

  • dude,

the red portion may be LED's

THE STROBE however, is still, a xenon gas filled tube, fired be a high voltage pulse, just like the strobes in your local disco.

    get your facts straight

  • Where's my rolling eyes emoticon? These were all LEDs. There's no pulse to them. Watch the video.

  • is it a complete LED light; unless it's some secret kinda strobe nobody knows about.

  • look at

    unilights com specifications products hvrb12

    it has to be it

  • morons!

that is just a secondary red signal head with a strobe tube in front of the red lens.

It is wired into the red phase for that direction of traffic, to draw extra attention to the fact the signal is RED, for idiots that can't uderstand that in time to hit the brake.

It's used in areas with high rates of red light running, or accidents related to redlight running.

  • It's not strobes, though. It's LEDs.

  • @matman1490 why do people when expressing an opinion need to abuse others?

  • Is that 3m or Strobecom?

  • In my area they put white strobes in front of red lenses( in the middle) on the traffic light for safety purposes. Not on all intersection, but on some with poor visibility. On the other hand Light Preemption. Once an emergency vehicle pre-empts the light, you will see plain white flashing bulb. Im sure you about them and seen them in action. I'll try to upload vodeos if I see any of those.

  • yeah it is. Must have just missed an emergency vehicle either go through the light or turn off on a street near that traffic light that has a preemption device on it.

  • Actually after some research... It's not. It flashes that way 24-7 and there's 2 other redlights that lfash that way as well.
