I strongly believe Scar was infertile. Otherwise, why would he choose a cub that's not his to be his heir? It would also explain why no other lionesses had children from him during Simba's absence. The presence of Nuka and Vitani in no way hinders this theory: they're not his, either. In fact, I'm a little confused why people think they are.

My point is that Zira was Scar's favorite. It stands to reason that he would choose her child to succeed him, especially since Kovu looked so much like him.

I loved the second movie, but it kind failed Scar's character. Scar was a selfish, cowardly, sly individual who thought of no one but himself. Why would he, of all people, choose another to succeed him? Had Simba not defeated him, Scar would have remained king till he died, and that would have been the end of it.

Scar just didn't seem the kind of character who would be willing to pass on anything, especially to a character that had no family ties to him. Maybe I'm thinking too much...

I always got the feeling that this movie "doth protesteth too much" about Kovu not being Scar's son. I think this scene would have truly made it one time too many, which is saying a lot given the final version already beat us over the head with it over and over again. "In case you're wondering, audience, Kovu is NOT Scar's son. No relation, whatsoever. Okay? We'll remind you again in ten minutes!"

I can't really tell what you're trying to argue here, but I'm going to assume that you're of the opinion that Kovu is not Scar's son because Kiara and Kovu are too close in age for this to be the case. For one, Scar died not long before Simba and Nala assumed the throne, so its possible that Kovu and Kiara were conceived around the same time (Kovu before Kiara obviously).

Also, the writers originally intended for Kovu to be Scar's son and never gave him a 'replacement' father.

Kovu should be much bigger, being older. (However.. In the movie it still mentions him as not scars son.. Nuka the creepy attention starved older lion says "hey Tani where's 'the chosen one'?" Tani: "Mother's going to be mad, you were supposed to be watching him." Nuka: "I should be the chosen one. I'm the oldest, I'm the strongest. --" blah blah but he says "Scar wasn't even his father, he just took him in.."

I watched that movie for animation practice so many times it's not funny

No, they weren't related. But think about this one for a minute: there are only two males in the entire pride. If Mufasa mated, Scar would have too. Since Mufasa is not the father of Nala, who is? Just look at those pretty green eyes of hers...and there is NOTHING in lion hierarchy that says cousins cannot mate. It's wrong in our society, but countless monarchies rely on blood relations to mary to keep it pure. Something to think about.
